My anxiety has been *really bad* living in New York City. A Vlog.

The sole intention of sharing this is to hopefully help someone not feel so alone in their anxiety and depression. And yes, I've been clinically diagnosed for years :) If you're feeling similar to me in this video, please know you're not alone and it's okay to reach out for help & support. Love you.
So anyways, sit back, grab a cup of coffee, and I hope you enjoy the video :)
Living alone in new york city is no joke. It's a huge privilege, yes, but there are a lot of mental health challenges I didn't think I would face by living alone for so long. This video is my trying to navigate that when my anxiety and depression get really bad. Thanks for your patience waiting for the next video. Love ya!

Hey Chelsea! As a fellow New Yorker living alone in Manhattan, I love your videos! You’re so relatable and very entertaining. I’ve struggled with anxiety before and found that making friends and having a good support system really helped. I didn’t think of myself as a social person before, but going out and meeting people has made all the difference in my life. Let me know if you ever want to hang out and do something in the city.

Hi Chelsea, I’m a therapist please don’t give up on therapy it can actually be helpful lol sometimes we just need to find the right fit for us for a therapist and that can take time. It may be beneficial for your anxiety to look into EMDR or DBT therapy then you can search for a therapist who utilizes that. Also finding someone who specializes in anxiety is also a plus. PsychologyToday is a great resource to search what you are looking for and you can have consult calls to get to know the therapist first. Anyway I really enjoy your vlogs and I think it is important to normalize expressing your emotions such as anxiety I appreciate your videos because you are so real which can be hard to find on the internet anymore lol

It’s genuinely so comforting to know someone else thinks a good meal the night before really peps up your health the next day. Forcing myself to make a nutritious meal can be so exhausting, especially when I’m rotting in bed just wanting a premade pizza. I’ve been working on using that energy to make dinner and it’s really been paying off in my happiness longevity. I loved the progression in this video, going from a low low to the highest of highs! Making friends??! GOOD 👏🏻FOR👏🏻 YOU👏🏻 💕I hope we both continue to put ourselves out there for that glimmer of a good experience that makes the week that much better. Thank you for this video, I long for your videos and they seem to upload when I need them the most. It’s almost like having a long distance friend and catching up 🥺

It's the absolute pits isn't it? Going to bed feeling fine one night and waking up feeling like absolute wallop the next morning without a single explanation for it. I don't know if it helps but you're not alone and you never will be. Your problems will always belong to you and you never have to share specifics but there's a family here who genuinely care about you and we can all relate to how you're feeling. I actually talk to myself in a mirror when I'm going through it. It's whatever works I suppose 😂. But we follow you because we care about you and for a lot of us your videos are an escape from our own problems so we're grateful to you for having the confidence (even though it probably feels like you don't) for sharing your life with us. It's 1:40am here so I'm off to bed. Hope the move is going well!!!!!

Haven't watched all of this yet....but... having dealt with severe anxiety in the past, what I can say is that having the 'basics' sorted goes a long way in helping you heal. Getting your nutrition, hydration and sleep consistently is massively beneficial. If I have a 'down day' and things aren't working well, I can guarantee one of these three things is 'up the wall' on that day. 9 times out of 10 for me, if I'm not eating well then I get lower...quicker... that's usually the culprit. Also, working out is another core facet of my life that I have to have in place. If I'm in the gym regularly, things work a lot better. If this helps someone out, even a bit.... I'd be stoked. Keep up the hard work Chelsea, the videos are fab.

I had the feeling something was up. I'm relieved to see you doing better and grateful you're sharing this very personal battle that's going on with yourself. I had to deal with depression for most of my life and what a mess it was. Countless lost opportunities, self-sabotaged relationships and very few moments where I didn't feel like suffocated by the amount of dread squeezing my brain. You've been generous enough to give us a glimpse of your struggles in the past before, so let me tell you how amazed I am about all the remarkable things you were able to achieve despite your body constantly trying to make you run against a brick wall. Not only having the courage to move to New York City but also the self-awareness to change career paths in order to build a sustaining life, powering through illness-related drowsiness and low-energy to commute every morning to a demanding job where you have to look presentable, be mindful of office etiquette and bombarded with workload. You also managed to ignore your screaming anxiety to start a KZread channel walking around in midst of the staring public holding up a camera, pointing it at yourself and talking to it, teaching yourself how to edit and be consistent enough in quantity and quality to grow your subscribers from a respectable 3K not long ago to a whooping 37K today. Most importantly you achieved all that by staying a kind, vulnerable and self-aware person who refuses to let her struggles make her become bitter and lash out at others. During my long stretch of years sitting in the hole, living behind shut curtains I did exactly none of that. Zero. You've been working constantly, fighting hard against the tide and it can be messy at times. You're entitled to take moments of rest and self-care. It's well deserved.

I hope you aren’t too hard on yourself for the years you feel you “wasted”… life is hard, and it’s especially tough when you are struggling with depression, which leaves you feeling even more depleted and drained than you otherwise would. It’s not easy to change, and I think subconsciously a lot of us with depression feel incredibly demoralized because we can’t even imagine a future worth fighting for. Anyways, I just wanted to say that I hope you can forgive yourself for your past, if you are holding any ill feelings towards yourself regarding this. You deserve compassion too.

My daughter has anxiety and sometimes calls me and asks me just to talk. And I do. I talk to her about my day, my life, my pets etc. it carry’s her to the other side of a panic attack. I always end with advising about diet and enough sleep. I think everyone needs someone that will listen, chat, whatever you need. That’s why therapists work. Vitamins, food, sleep and limited social media 🥰 she still has anxiety (30 years) but she is happily married with 2 kids and seems better as she gets older and kids get older. She does admit that she has to limit watching news and toxic friends and family.

It’s nice to see such honesty about the realities of struggling with a mental illness + living in a big city! A lot of people seem to think that loneliness and all your other problems will disappear once moving into the city but I think it’s the opposite lol. Urban isolation is a thing guys! If you ever find yourself craving for something to read, I recommend “The Lonely City: Adventures in the Art of Being Alone” by Olivia Liang! It’s a wonderful mix of a memoir, social commentary, and art biography that centers around urban isolation (the author is from NY and there’s plenty to read about that). I’m in the middle of reading it rn and loving it so far!

Therapy has never worked for me either. I just try to focus on taking good care of myself by eating healthy, exercising on a consistent basis, sleep 6-8 hrs a day, be social at least once a week or every other week, and excel at work. I also try to create 1 short term and 1 long term goal and try to focus on that. But besides that there’s nothing else u can do but keep pushing forward. Depression/anxiety comes and goes, welcome it, observe it and just keep pushing. Accepting it makes it more manageable than resisting it. Wishing you the best.

Hello Chelsea, I found your channel recently and I've been loving it, it's like a cozy company when I'm lonely in my apartment. (I've been living alone for the first time in my life for 7 months now, since I got into medical school). I wanted to congratulate you on this channel cause I know it must be really hard work, and it's very well done! 🎉😊 Also, commenting on the therapy part, you are not alone, I also never felt therapy was any help for me. I also have depression and anxiety, and unfortunately all my experiences with therapy had been awful. I would always feel worse after every session. I've been to three therapists until now, and I don't plan on going to another one any time soon, cause I've been so much better ever since my last therapist left me (yes, she left me and it was awful, but life without her got better). Maybe if the opportunity comes, and I feel like it's a match, I'll give therapy a go again, but for now I'm better off without it. Therapy unfortunately is not going to help everyone with every type of problem. And not every therapist is prepared to deal with the needs we present to them. But, whatever it is you are going through, continue to be patient like you have been, and it will work out. If you believe in God, have faith He is watching over for you, just do the best you can, be patient with yourself each day, don't give up, and the solution will come. I'm sure you already know this, but just in case you needed a reminder... It will pass! You are doing great! Much love, all the way from Brazil 🇧🇷🎉❤❤

Don't know if you know Mel Robbins but her vlog is very relatable and inspirational. I'm no stranger to anxiety so I can relate. Diet, sleep and copper. I for one am glad you are able to talk about anxiety, yours, which is also mine and ours and by that I mean other viewers. Life has never been so hard as the last few years and oh my f' God if I had a dollar for every ambulance, fire truck and cop car, I could fly to NY tomorrow. Nobody tells you what a death trap Hawaii is. If they did no one would come here. Just keep breathing, that's all I want to do. People think it's Paradise and it is if you just pop on over for a visit. But life here ain't like that, which is why so many come and then realize the truth and bail. Ya got youth and beauty, and I can tell brains on your side. So you're going to be great. Greatness just takes time. Meet ups and isolating when I need to helps. I'm an hsp empath so modern urban life requires for me both and yes home has to feel like sanctury. And grounding in Nature helps too.

Hi Chelsea fellow anxiety sufferer. My recommendation for basic self care.Sometimes writing it down in a list helps and you can tick it off or alternatively write down things achieved yes even brushing your teeth. It would be eat simple healthy meals not anything ultra processed. ( Your meal looked excellent) No or limited alcohol. A 30 min walk (in nature if you can) but round the block is fine. Have a shower & brush teeth. Prioritse sleep and yes its okay to rest/spend extra time in bed. Have some treats a nice cup of coffee a bunch of flowers. Walk through your day step by step. Know that you will come out the other side. Don't make any life changing decisions when you feel like this. Good luck with your therapist hunt keep changing til you find one that fits. Xx

Just watching your latest video after seeing the one of you being crushed by NYC. As a native NY’r, one antidote is to get out of the City for parts upstate. Simple stuff like weekend drive to Corning Glass Factory, or Amtrak to Niagara Falls (preferably on weekday). There is also statue garden in NJ. Getting out of your small apt. and hustle/bustle of NYC works wonders for some.

I also deal with anxiety and was introduced to Arbonne, InnerCalm, Adaptogenic De-Stress Powder. It has Ashwagandha and Saffron in it and you add the powder to water and drink it. It is very tasty! I take it when I am feeling overwhelmed by anxiety and within a half an hour my anxiety decreases from a 10 to 1. It is a natural way to calm one’s nervous system when it is feeling overwhelmed. It can be hard to find someone that fits but the pay off is worth the effort. Living alone, working a lot, not spending enough time outdoors and comparing myself to others is what exacerbates my anxiety and depression, but I always sit down in those depressive episodes and ask myself what's wrong. I also remind myself that I love myself and I will fight for myself and my happiness. I am my own number one priority. Praying and saying affirmations are also effective coping mechanisms at least for me. I hope you get better soon! ❤ Also something funny that I saw on tik tok: Just a reminder that if you are still alive you're not struggling with depression, depression is struggling with you 👊

Hi Chelsea! I was wondering if I missed a video and thought about you, but glad to know you’re okay albeit struggling. I’m really grateful for your willingness to share this part of your life with us. As someone who also struggles with anxiety, I’m always at war with the thoughts in my head and lately, I’ve found solace in falling off the map. Even though that’s not really ideal, it helps give me the push I need to get back on track. I hope this period of life is temporary and even though healing isn’t linear, I know we are all just trying do our best to live. I hope you keep thriving and I’m not sure how much this would mean coming from a stranger, but I’m happy you exist. Lots of love from LA ❤

So sorry to hear you are having a rough time. I have been feeling similarly, so I have chosen to be kind to myself!! I have been framing doing self care as giving myself a gift or like something I would love to do for someone else. It has helped a lot. Also, I have been meditating (Apple Fitness, babyyyyy) and there is a kindness playlist that really helps. Thanks for being vulnerable. It brings us all together.

Hope you always feel better, Chelsea. I discovered your channel during the days of overwhelming existential dread, and was lucky enough to ever bump up with you once in the city. The stories and clips you posted shows how unbelievably courageous and authentic you are. It is from you that I know there's still someone not leading a shiny life in the city, that we are both feeling lonely at times in the hustle and bustle and that it is okay to share your feelings even when you are not super rich, not having high social status and perhaps being vulnerable. In such a long period before I found your channel, I thought social media had become a battleground for aggressive people to post toxic photos and videos to simply go viral and pump money into their pocket. However, you are like a beacon in the storm, and it's from you, the algo started to recommend me more and more videos from imperfect people all around the world. I started to really understand the saying "no matter where we're from, no matter who we are, we are more the same than different." Just hope you won't be haunted by anxiety or depression, and can always find love and support when they are in need.

Best of luck with your continued struggles! Fwiw, I think you're doing a lot (more than me, for sure) in terms of trying to position yourself in a good place to find your way out of it. Sometimes you don't need to drag yourself the whole way - a little push, a little momentum can go a long way. I'm glad to see you posting as it's positive sign and hopefully all the positivity you put out is returned to you a hundred-fold! (and I'm happy you treated yourself to that dress! Probably did more for you than that bad therapy session)

I have been watching your videos for a while now and at first I wasn’t sure why. I also live in nyc and have suffered from anxiety and depression my whole life, however it manifests very differently than yours and our lives are very different. I think I take comfort in your videos because seeing another normal person’s routine on the internet feels like a break from my own personal grind and daily media. Thanks for that!

The shift that occurs after growth also scares me because of the reason you mentioned. It can feel very heavy when you have to adjust the things that no longer fit in your life or, at an equal or greater level, very disheartening when you have to let go of what doesn't fit (especially when it is people). Thank you very much for sharing with us and happy to hear that you are on the positive end of things now!

Hey Chelsea, I genuinely enjoy watching your videos and can totally relate as a fellow 30-something navigating everyday life in a big city while dealing with mental health challenges. It's refreshing to see someone embrace their 'ordinary' and vulnerable side. That being said, if you ever feel like deleting your channel entirely or simply posting on your own terms, that's absolutely valid. Just remember to prioritize yourself and your well-being. Take care!

So glad to see your face again! Life is just… I don’t even know. One day I’m in a great mood of “I’ve got this, what was I so worried about”… to extreme frustration at work and just utter gutter when I get home. I’ve been trying to be kinder to myself, I need to look into therapy but haven’t for that exact reason of not clicking with them and having to repeat my self over and over… some days just easier to hide away from everyone… but then weekends like today remind me of the joy of having people around you. Hugs you.

Loved this vlog! Literally me the last couple weeks until recently - just anxiety from work-life stuff. It happens ☹️ One thing that does get me through is just being kinder & more gentle with myself. (Break from chores/adulting & any responsibilities outside of work, & not pressuring myself for anything. ) It sucks when it happens but I remind myself it won’t be this way forever & when it’s not, better days await. My previous therapist provided some of the best advice - create space for yourself & allow yourself to do or not do things guilt-free for some time. ❤

You have no idea how much I can relate, when I find myself in a bad state I can't eat as well I just have to appetite and Im sick to my stomach and in regards to being the only one who picks you up its the same here as well. Its difficult when people don't understand because they've never felt what I felt or I don't want to overwhelm them and so all my life I've just picked myself up and it gets tougher and tougher as one gets older, sending you best wishes and remember one day at a time and sometimes it means one hour at a time and one task at a time♥♥

Good to see you back. I too have some mental problems, mostly depression. I have days where everything is great and I'm enjoying life but at times that dark horse shows up and I have a couple of days down in the dumps. Thankfully through therapy I know the red flags of being in that mental state and sooner or later I know I have to get myself busy finding things that will pick me up. I hope you are feeling better Chelsea. God Bless.
