The NYC vlog where I decide to rescue a second kitten 🐱 *deep chats & preparation*

Navigating having a kitten while living alone in NYC has taught me so much and has been the greatest gift. So much goes into deciding when it's time to take the leap, and making these choices based on what will give my cat the best life, even if I'm not quite ready yet. I am so so excited AND SCARED to expand the cat family!! Please note that I am learning as I go, if you want the best cat advice, check out Jackson Galaxy or The Kitten Lady on youtube. Their videos have helped me so much and are great points of reference. Thank you for all your love welcoming Gordo into the family ❤️ Soon we will welcome another.

Hi friends! Back with the highly requested cat content along with ANOTHER surprise 🐱🐱I feel like y'all maybe saw this coming though. Separately, last night was the Offline event IRL!!! We had such a great turnout and I truly had THE BEST TIME getting to meet everyone!! Seriously, y'all were so warm and kind and thoughtful and sweet, I am so grateful to everyone that was able to come out ❤ Your support means the world. I am still processing, but will give the full recap in an upcoming vlog!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤ also at a certain point I got tired of blurring out my tatas in this video (LOL) and only blurred out the 'close calls' 😂 I figured someone might comment about that lolol

It made so darn tooting happy when you said you’d foster the cat!! Yay!!!! You’ll fall in love and keep him or her. And don’t be surprised if it takes a while to have them get along. But they’re so young that they’ll love playing with each other. And they’ll have company when you’re out. You’re apt is def big enough for two cats. Trust me - 2 cats will bring you double the joy!!!!

So happy for you!! I have had so many kitties and last year I got a little boy 6 weeks old and two weeks later I got a little girl who was about 10 weeks I brought her put her on the bed and he made a couple of little growls but he loved her immediately it’s like they are brother and sister but not even the same litter! Not saying every kitty will immediately be okay with each other but I think the younger they are it’s easier! They will have different personalities and it’s so much fun experiencing that …you will be a happy family of three sometimes when you are least expecting it a sweet baby kitty comes into life and unconditionally loves you it’s the best feeling x two! Just loving them back is all you really need to know…😊

Adopting a second kitten is the best decision! It might seem like having two will make your life harder, but in my experience having two cats grow up together, play together, and keep each other company will make things easier and happier for all of you. Yay!

I second this! I REGRET not getting two together when I got my first cat…the shelter tried convincing me to adopt my girls sister and I said no in fear of it being too much to handle. Instead I waited two years and although I love my girl, she was ALOT to deal with and that’s because she was alone all day and just wanted to play with someone. Once I got my boy, she calmed down IMMEDIATELY and I no longer dealt with torn up carpet, chewed up plants and having my toes attacked at night. So this was a great decision on your part. It actually makes it easier to raise them as kittens lol.

Third! If you have the resources, it's so , so good for them to have a feline friend. I have a16 year old cat and wish I had given her siblings a long, long time ago. A year ago I rescued two siblings from my neighbors carport and they're thick as thieves. She tolerates them and wonders why they're there but thankfully they leave her be. Also, you're doing a wonderful job, so don't doubt that. The life you're giving them is far superior than what the alternative would be.

Congratulations on making the decision to adopt one of Gordo’s siblings. I adopted a one-year old orange cat 8 years ago. Copper had been found on the side of a road with his ribs kicked in. Vet guessed his ribs were broken courtesy of the toe from a steel-toed boot and he was left to die. Whoever found Copper and brought him to the animal shelter is a hero. And those who nursed Copper back to health are heroes. Copper arrived in my home with some serious mental health issues. But he was also very intelligent; I could see the intelligence in his eyes and noted it frequently from reactions to words I spoke. He was no dummy. I respected his need for space and felt honored when he would sit a “little” closer, start to take an interest in household activities. It likely took him close to a year before I heard him purr. Now a days he’s a frequent visitor on my lap; appreciates a good snuggle from time to time; doesn’t run when it’s time to get his fur brushed; and he definitely lets me know when its time for a snack.

They did! Apparently cat purrs actually help when you are sick/are healing! And cats seem to know this and will actually seek their (sick) owners out! I am.more of a dog person myself (although I had cats most of my life), but I always said there should be an animal that wags their tails like a dog and purrs like a cat!

"How are you supposed to want to keep going when working hard can't seem to afford you anything?" Ugh I felt that. This is where I'm at right now in my 30's looking around at all the things that just keep getting further out of reach with inflation. I know I need to try to leave my comfort zone to even stand a chance but the odds don't feel in my favor and I'm so tired already. But anyway, I really appreciate these videos where you're so open about your struggles.

I adopted my first baby when he was already rescued and almost a year old into our 2 bedroom apartment. Almost 2 years later, I hear a loud meow, constant behind our building. My sister and I took him out the bushes and made him a carboard box, gave him food that he hungrily gulped and had to leave him out for the night as my parents wouldn't accept another cat. I couldnt sleep hat night thinking how he was defenseless in this world without his mother. Next evening, I went and brought him up under the pretext of at least bathig him, since it was raining a lot. He hasn't left since then❤ My first rescue and my second ginger baby. Gordo's brother and Gordo will be happy with you no matter where. You're heart will be full of love and mental health so bright, the sun will look pale in comparison. 🎉🎉🎉🎉

You are going to be amazed at how easy it is. Their lives will be enriched by having one another, and by having you as their cat-mom! Also, I'm a long-time Alexis watcher too, and just tickled pink seeing you two together.

I adopted two cats from the same litter 17 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made. Watching them grow and play together and also take care of one another is the most beautiful thing to experience. You’ll see their different personalities, you’ll have a different relationship with each of them, yet equally significant. It will be amazing. Aside from cleaning an extra little box and more food, they are not much more work. I am so happy for you and this journey you are on. The cats are lucky to have you as their mom.

Having a pet is such a transformative thing when you have depression and anxiety ! Also, as you mentioned it in a video earlier, my therapist told me that pets have an incredibly positive effect on people with adhd. Living with my cat helps me with emotion regulation and putting things into perspective. He doesn't judge, he doesn't care about your mistakes and he doesn't know anything about politics. Very refreshing.

For years I looked at and spoke of rescuing our kitty--who is now almost 17, but you know what? Ultimately, he saved me. I have something else besides myself to consider. I have someone who really needs me and depends on me etc. Before him, I would often feel overwhelmed by someone needing me. But, the bond you can develop with a cat (or dog or person) helps alleviate that feeling of being overwhelmed. What you are feeling is normal, rest assured. I'm glad you are getting a second kitty. If we could go back and also have taken our kitty's sister with us, oh how happy he would have been. I think he would have loved being with a sibling his whole life. He's had me, which has made him a lot more "human" if that makes sense? He has taken on a lot of human worry and angst on due to having zero distractions of another kitty. Space and rental restrictions kept us from considering getting another kitty as time has gone on. I love your videos and I appreciate your candor. 🐱

I was in the exact same boat two years ago. I adopted one and then a month later got another. I was in a small apartment till their first birthdays and it was always plenty of space.. and they are so much happier with each other. I also understand the sudden responsibility overwhelm but I promise you’ll be so proud in another few months. Also, I bought a house when they were a year old which was another level of overwhelm. But as I was contemplating the house idea before I had the kittens - my brother in law had the best advice about the house but it totallyyyy applied to the cats too. The first year is the hardest and then it gets easier. Knowing it won’t be hard/scary forever.

Hi Chelsea, if you're getting a bit overwhelmed during quarantine please remember that after a couple of days, when the kitties play together, it will be a lot of less stress cause there won't be separating the cats and feeding/cleaning the toilet twice. Did the vet tell you that you absolutely have to quarantine? Maybe just take kitty number 2 to the vet and then you can re-unite them? They will recognize each other and they will be so happy. The second kitty will smell Gordo regardless of giving her new toys I bet, there noses are so good. Maybe they will start to meow for each other. ❤ You're a great cat mom, Gordo loves you and is feeling safe with you, it's clearly visible. Thank you so much for taking in the calico! ❤

My cat Macy Grey, passed in October of last year.. ( My third) Lately we have two cats coming to the yard every day. One is very stand offish and won't let you pick her up. She just comes for the food and water that is put out for her. The other jumps through the hole in the screen multiple times a day for food, cuddles and a nap, then goes to the door when she wants out. Today Mr. Stand offish decided to jump through the screen, take a look around and go back out. I was so happy. I believe they have owners because they both look well fed and groomed. We named them anyway, one is Smoke and the other is Dozer. Just living their best cat lives. Good on you Chelsea for taking in the second kitty.❤

Then, since she's an outside cat...she got pregnant and she had 6 kittens that I'm taking care of right now. I actually cried because I didn't know if I can handle them, but I'm doing it. Gordo is so adorable!! I was an only child who grew up in the country with cats and dogs. They were my company...often felt like they were siblings. To be honest I never really felt the terrible urge to have children but have always wanted cats and dogs in my life. I have 3 cats...2 females and 1 male...all fixed/neutered. I live in a small 2 bedroom house and my cats are indoors only due to living in the country near a busy road. I have 4 cats trees which to me were a great investment for me and the cats. Sometimes all 3 are asleep on 1 cat tree and sometimes they are all on different trees. All 4 cat trees are near windows and the cats all "chatter" at birds that land on the bushes outside the windows. The cats are really good at scratching the areas on the cat trees and every now and then I need to reattach the rope with glue as they have gotten carried away...which is better than going for the furniture. A few tips for you to think about...1) Leave your kitty carrier out with the door open so they can freely go in and out if it rather than bringing it out only when they have a scheduled vet appointment. If they are used to it it isn't as traumatic for them when you gave to pack them up to go to the vet. 2) I get my kitty litter delivered by Chewy.com or Amazon so I can have a fair amount at home. 3) Get your kitties used to being brushed. My male kitty loves to be brushed and he comes when I'm sitting by the table where I keep the brush and literally taps me on the leg so I will brush him. Getting them used to being brushed keeps loose fur off of them so they won't lick themselves and OD on loose fur and then get fur balls that they will throw up. Yes your affect has greatly improved since Gordo came in to your life!! Very happy for you and that you and Gordo will have more company. 2 kitties is a great move!! Can't wait to see his sister!!

It makes so much sense Chelsea!! I was the same, I have had my dog for 2.5yrs now, I was so hesitant and my mum got him for me, and I love the bones of him now, it worked out perfect, I was uncomfortable with the idea but so happy someone else nudged me in the animal mum direction. I am now in my late 30's, work is good, dog mum life is great...I have never looked at kids and known that's what I want, I have never had the urge to be a mum to humans... and I am way past wanting a partner, I did up until my early 30's but am now far too independent and love my easy life. So it is NOT strange Chelsea, it is actually so normal, so many woman feel the same as you.

As someone who has owned multiple cats my entire life, you needn’t worry too much about keeping them separate for very long. They are kittens and they are from the same litter. It’s not like introducing adult cats that have never know each other. They will recognize each other’s scent and their desire to play and connect will be instinctive and strong. It should be an easy transition. I’ll bet they’ll want to be together almost immediately. It will be okay. You got this, girl.

Two is better than one. One pet can be super fulfilling and have a great life too, don't get me wrong ! But I just absolutely LOVE to see my two pups interact. They "talk" about things I'll never know, they understand each other in a way I never will, try as I may. My second dog was also a foster first, but when I saw how happy he made my other dog, I just had to keep him, and now we're a family of three and have been for around5 years now, wow how time flies!

We can really see that you are happy and getting Gordo his other family that's great. I am allergic for cats and a dog-mama and maternal feelings can be different and you do not need to have children. I lost a child and couldn't conceive and how pets can give you so much love and joy. Love your vlogs even though you are 23 years younger than me but it's realistic. Keep making them and we can not wait for the next vlog.

Chelsea, you are an absolute angel for adopting one kitten, let alone fostering/adopting a 2nd kitten! As a fellow cat mom, we adopteda baby girl kitten and foster failed her brother. Best decision ever! They are best buds, and I cannot imagine separating them! I feel you on the maternal instincts when it comes to animals. Thanks for sharing your life with us. Truly a joy to connect with you ❤

Chelsea, I can relate so well to you. I also am a mom to kitties and love mine with my whole heart but I’ve not ever had that maternal drive for human kids and that’s my chosen path I’m proud of. Same for dating, if it happens, ok but if not my life is full. I hope you don’t ever feel badly bec some other human decided your path or purpose should be the same as theirs. That’s nonsense. Stay true to yourself. Your authenticity is truly what makes you so relatable and why I keep tuning in to watch. You rock and your kitty is just too darn cute!

Had a similar situation a couple years ago with a puppy in a bad situation, and I took him in before I was ready for another dog just because I knew I could offer him a better life and a better shot at finding a forever home if it didn't end up being with me. Bennett (puppy) lived with with me for a year and caring for two dogs in New York by myself was tough, but I adore him and he got along great with my first dog. When my mom retired a year later, she jokingly asked if I would consider rehoming him to her. After a lot of thought, I agreed it would be amazing for Bennett to have a backyard and a retired person caring for him full-time lol. Now I still get to see him when I visit home and my mom has a forever best friend. regardless of how this turns out, it will be the best for you, gordo, and the new kitten! Sending you all deep breaths, cuddles, and meat sticks.
