Ha! I was thinking the use of the Goldberg Variations in the hand of Glen Gould perfectly convey the hectic pleasure of tree planting 🎵

Wow, after an afternoon of planting and transplanting rhododendrons, a camellia, and some smaller insect friendly plants, my back and knees were tired! So I went to my fav tree nursery, just for a coffee 🙈🙈🙈 suddenly there were six more shrubs and a Japanese maple in my car! Just to watch you with a very similar addiction! Well done! 👏🏻🥰

Once everything has been cleaned up it would be nice to have a drone shot of the property with a talk over of what you have done. Looks fabulous and great specimens!! My grandpa also named all the plants, including the latin names. He also planted rare plants too. It's awsome. It helped me a lot with biology at school, & I become plants lovers too

Hello Phillip. Welcome to the club. I am also an addict, but for me it is for flowering plants. Annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, it makes no difference to me. I can hear their voices "I will be so pretty every spring." or "I flower in high summer. How pretty is that!" "Oh you will be able to see my pretty flowers from the second floor windows!" "Buy me." Lovely little flower elf voices. Even better if those flowers are replaced by something edible, soft and sweet and bright colored. So here I am this spring, contemplating where in the world will I plant four different varieties of raspberries. I feel for your confusion over your addiction, brother. You are not alone.

@@loloholmes2793 Oh yes. 💞 Hydrangea come in a perfectly beautiful shade of peach that's rare except for tea roses and once in a great while in snap dragons. But the snaps are such wantons. They'll cross breed with any handsome devil and you never know what you'll get in the offspring. 😽

I can feel Philipp's love for these trees. They will flourish!

Plant addiction is real. A decade ago, I purchased one cactus... now I have over 500. Love how your garden is coming along. I only wish I had that much space to work with.

Phillip you continue to entertain us in such a fun way, you make me laugh! Your dry humour while you confess your addiction is spot on! Glad you got the holly tree trimmed as well as some the 40 planted. We have snow here in British Columbia as well....makes me question what is happening to our world! Well, thanks to Phillip and his tree addiction, he will be bringing in more oxygen to your part of the world! Go Phillip!

Philip, your bravery is truly inspiring. Admitting an addiction as serious as this, to all your followers, is a profile in courage. Especially since you do the majority of the work at the chateau, while those around you steal the spotlight and get all the credit.

You're not the only one who has a plant addiction. Our lot is much smaller, but it's filled with lots of plants - particularly edibles like haskap (honeyberries), plum, cherry, apple and pear trees, wine and table grapes, raspberries, strawberries, etc. Then there are the new flowering shrub varieties every year. What can an addict do but keep adding more? 🙂 BTW, we have a mature Manchurian cherry (amur chokecherry or prunus maackii) that is about 28 years old with a beautiful smooth bark like the one you planted. The bark peels off, too. It's a wonderful tree for shade as well. Hope you enjoy yours for years to come!

I hope you took the metal netting of the root ball. It doesn’t rust away and prevents proper root development. The KZread channel Garden Answer list a huge Spruce tree last summer. 30 years old, heathy, beautiful, blown over in a storm. The roots still trapped in the metal cage.

The first step to "wanting to buy a boat" addiction is to admit you have a problem.

Oh Philipp, my aunt had a plant addiction also. After she came home from the nursery with a number 1 and 5 gallon plants, she would quickly plant them all over her garden and would ask my mother to take away the the empty containers so my uncle wouldn’t see them. When my uncle saw a plant and questioned it, my aunt would say the the birds or squirrels must have planted it. Not to sure he was fooled. 😊 Now in my garden, every summer I have to pull out a million baby oak trees often with the acorn still attached that the squirrels planted in the previous fall. I feel you. I'm addicted to rescuing plants, plants nobody wants to buy, plants thrown away but still whispering with their tiny voices. My appartment ist a plant rehabilitation center and I'm not sure wish void I want to fill... at least they fill my lungs with oxygene and my heart with joy.

I was struggling with plant addiction and told myself I can get the indoor fig, jasmine and lemon tree when the wiring is done, thought going to dollar store was safe... they had ranuculous which I had never tried for $1.25. They are sprouting with my calla lily, ginger, tomatoes, 2 ferns and vinca all in one window with creative hanging that involves a cooling rack. You would approve.

I share your addiction and so does my husband, double the problem. Every time we go to a garden centre we return in what looks like a mobile greenhouse. We have lived in our house for 29 years and the trees we planted as saplings are now mature, so pleased we planted when we moved in. Warning we are still developing the garden. My husband has a second addiction cswbw (can't shop without buying wine) 😂

I wasn't afraid of heights. Until this episode.

Hi Philip and Anna, I found out that when the main center branch or the center trunk of the tree is cut (up high) like with the Holly, you will lose the tree quicker. Maybe you can cover the center trunk with a product or a patch to keep bugs out. A tree guy from around here told me that just last year. Holly trees usually live to about 100+ years. Cedar trees live 300 years. They might look dead sometimes but they go into a "hardening-off" in the fall to prepare for winter.

You can never have too many trees but you might want to make a little plan for all the shade you are creating. I love that you are using wood chips to improve and protect the soil. I think I am living vicariously through you!!

There is no spring yet at my place, but it’s so inspiring to see spring happening elsewhere - your beautiful dream garden coming to life, birds singing and etc ❤

Yes, I too have this. Not just trees though. Yes, they talk to me as well. I'm too old now, for this obsession, I'm a senior and disabled now. Lovely to watch the younger set and how they get on with their lovely trees and plants.

Ok Phillips. All plants and trees talk to me, even in the winter. At the worst it took me 3hours to water, all of my house plants . I had a 124 plants in a small house. They still call me in the night but I fight it every day. I sold my little house and my beautiful garden. I live in a rent house now. My garden is in pots now. I’m sad.

While i watched this video i understood why i feel so calm and happy when i watch your content. Whatever happens in the world, two of you keeping build beautiful life. Planting trees, doing renovations with so much love and care to history. It helps to find and feel support in instability. This is what people should do. Keep going. I admire you . Thank you.

I admire your courage!

The pain (mostly from muscle over-exerted trying to plant everything one buys) is real. In late Summer you will need to shop for bulbs to plant amongst your gorgeous trees and shrubs. It never ends! About all that grass turf that Jeremy scraped up - If you have a spot where you can stack it up like a dry stone wall with the grass side downwards, and then just leave it, within a year or so it will rot down into the best compost ever for your beds and plants.

YESSSS! Bulbs are wonderful. Plus, Philip can hide many more without anyone noticing, and in the spring he can say they must have spread all by themselves!!!

The landscaping is coming along nicely. You could certainly have worse addictions than trees and plants. The cherry picker is such a tremendous help when you have a large property with many older trees that need constant attention.

Your plants are going to be so beautiful. Ziggy is happy about the boxes.

We have had lots of snow in Canada last week and more coming this week; and we are into first week of March. When I go to the plant centre I have an addiction too and come home with way too many flowers and plants for my terrace, so I know the feeling. Then again when I go to a bakery, that’s another problem.

This was lovely and just the thing I needed on a gloomy cold Sunday afternoon in California.

If I had a property as large as yours, I would be planting everyday. LOL... it's so satisfying to see someone else enjoy this 'addiction' as much as I do, and comforting to know there are more people in the world that sustain and protect the natural world with a little maintenance and a lot of heart. Fellow addict. Trust me, I can almost *feel* your joy at these new additions! Visit a plant nursery for a new pair of secateurs?....and come away with a trolley load of shrubs & trees, not quite sure where I'll put them. I still dream of the stunning Parrotia Persica I saw a couple of years ago, it's leaves turning gorgeous shades of yellow through to red and purple (and still plotting where and how I can fit that into my garden)!

I can envision how fabulous your landscaping will be. Honestly I could have written your introduction about trees whispering to you, “buy me”. I spontaneously bought 7 trees last spring and my back yard is only 16.5m X 10m. An addiction for sure. 🌳

Thank for putting the right word on my disorder. I now own a 50 hect forest after a major crisis. I am on an agro forestry master degree at 55 years old to try to deal with my disorder. The university room is filled with people alike. You are not alone!

Please tell me you removed all the metal around the roots. Roots grow slowly and gets thicker for each year. Meaning that if you keep the metal around the roots (it may be called tree-trunks in English?) they will die years later, getting roots stuck in the metal. You basicly "cut" the roots off, giving them a very slow death. 😞 And it's also good to remove the cloth-thing (don't know the name in English), so they can receive the water better. They also tend to grow to leen more to one side cos of the metal around the roots, and can then end up falling down onto the ground. (And potentially kill you). Now to the fun part: I love all the varieties you have chosen. You have a good taste Philip 👍🙂 I look forward to see what they all look like when spring comes, summer and autumn. If you like to learn more about garden, gardening I can warmly recommend Garden Answer. They talk about all kinds of plants, bushes,flowers and trees. Lovely choices of plants! My partner is an arborist and he frequently stresses that the *trunk flare* of trees and bushes being exposed is INTEGRAL to the health of the plant! If it’s covered up with soil, the trunk is more susceptible to pests and rotting! Best wishes from Tennessee, USA!
