My Abusive Father Locked Me Inside For 30 Years | Minutes With |

Ойын-сауық

In this week's episode of Minutes With, we sat down with Katy Morgan-Davies, born into a London cult. Known as the 'Communist Collective' and led by her father Aravindan Balakrishnan (AB), it operated as a cult of personality. Katy discusses being locked in the house for 30 years, the power dynamics of the group and the abuse she suffered at the hands of cult members.

What I truly wish for her, if she hasn't already, is to be given THE BEST trauma therapy, psychiatrist and psychologist to helo her bury this horror story. No fee. Private medic. And absent of a waiting time. She deserves this. For the sake of leading a whole life. 💜

You’re so so obviously right it should go without saying… but the NHS waiting lists are huge! I experienced serial sa and physical abuse by dad known to mum and was isolated from school. I had to wait 3.5 years for regular therapy and lost a promised place in a therapeutic community last minute because of funding - on that basis I don’t hold out huge hopes in Katy’s case

Clearly done exception self growth and a lot of work on language and everything else. Just so happy to see this. I really hope she now gets to move on and up and live the life she deserves.

It makes me sad that it took such a long time for somebody outside to care or notice things weren't right... When her mother committed suicide, none of the police checked her welfare. Child protective services never investigated. They didn't seem to question anything about who she was, where her records were, why she wasn't in school or her living circumstances. And when she escaped as an adult they treated her as a runaway teenager and completely dismissed her and didn't investigate anything. They questioned her with her abusers in the room, which shouldn't happen in any domestic violence situation because the victim can easily be scared and coerced by their abuser into not speaking. Which is what happened to her. They didn't seem to even get in a social worker or anything to delve into the situation and didn't connect her to any services to help. I mean, it should've been clear from talking to her that she was trapped in a cult. Instead they sent her back. It's terrible.

This brought me to tears and not just because of the terrible things that had been done to her but because she was able to remain good and decent and her heart remained pure in spite of it all. Someone else said in the comments above this is a perfect case and argument against the whole nature versus nurture. This baby, toddler, child, teenager and adult was physically, emotionally and psychologically abused and yet through it all she never gave in to the dark side. She is the light. I wish I could meet her I have such pure love and respect for someone who has been through so much. I wish I could know how she is doing now … if she is coping and handling life… does she have friends a husband or family now ..? I pray she is doing well. God bless her always.

@@the_local_bigamist It is actually very common in Asia where parents are like this. I am not being a dick. I hate this type of parenting too. In Western countries you don't see that type of parenting very often, this person probably compared how her friends' parents treat their kids differently than hers. I am not siding with her mom or her, I've seen parents where they lose their children because their kids do not understand the sacrifices and type of love that the parents are providing. They do not understand the intentions their parents have to be the best parents they can be. It is quite saddening for both sides. Sounds to me like her mom just needed to learn how to let go of her baby, but again I don't know what other problems she had with her mom, so I can't say much. It is a very sad situation to be in for both sides.

Brutal story and self portrait inflicted upon this beautiful young woman, which was never her fault in the first place ! Really I think her parents should be put in jail and her grandparents, the same and her brother right there with him. They are sick people and we need to stay away from those kind of people and be kept away from their violence and mental instability..
