My 84 Year Old Landlord REACTS to my Apartment Makeover

I’m so excited to be sharing a VERY requested video. As many of you know, I’ve been renovating my rental apartment for the past 2 years. Upon moving in, my landlord gave me permission to paint and renovate as I so pleased. He has yet to see how I transformed the space and in today’s video I’m giving him a tour! This was his first time being upstairs in years (he is older and has a hard time going up stairs). I told him about my video idea and he was so excited!! With my assistance and the help of a desk chair, he was able to tour the entire space!

This is funny, until it isn't. I once rented a house where I had to take two 4-tonne truckloads of garbage and clean for a week before we could move in. I painted rooms and it was a really nice place. Landlord was a horrible person wanted to raise the rent because "I could get much more for this place than you are paying". The real estate agent (who couldn't stand her) stepped in and said, "well if you want to raise the rent you'll also have to do x, y, z". She backed off. We lived there for 17 years.

Can i just say that as someone who works with the 'elderly', this video is heartwarming. Many people don't realise that there are so many elderly people who are lonely. I'm not suggesting that your landlord is, but it is nice for someone 'younger' engaging so positively with someone older. You not only renovated a beautiful property but you also helped your landlord financially. Many people think that those who own homes are well off, although this may be the case sometimes, many elderly people who own homes, have the rent as their main or only income. You did good!

THIS. God Bless @Lone Fox 's Heart. So often, renters take the attitude of not improving the space because 'it's not theirs'. I think like Drew...If I'm there it's going to be the best I can make it, of course with the landlords permission. I think it would be awesome if Drew made Uncle Landlord one of his future 'projects'. It is lovely to witness Love in Action in a hurting world.

She was thrilled when I brought her through. We ended up becoming great friends and I would help her out when she needed anything. It was such an honor to get to know her and if I was down she would give me wonderful advice and always made me feel better. I loved to hang out w/ her and listen to her stories. She passed and I had to move on as her kids sold the house. I guess my point is if you have an elder in your life, spend some time with them. I promise, you will make their day and they will give you nuggets of wisdom you won't get anywhere else. Cheers.

Your video reminds me of when my husband and I first got married (in 1989) and rented the big downstairs apartment from my great grandfather. After we were done decorating, we had him come downstairs to see it. He was 89 years old at the time. When he stood on the carpet in the front parlor he said, "wow, it's so thick. I think I'm going to tip over." My entire life, growing up, we were never allowed to use that front parlor, so it felt good being able to make it into a usable space. My great grandfather had purchased that house in 1925. It had all of the original clear cypress wood trim, and every few years he would pay someone to come in and strip off the clear coat and recoat it, so it always looked brand new. The front parlor had beautiful French doors going into it. I really miss that house. I was the 4th generation to live in that house. You did a beautiful job redecorating your apartment! Glad your landlord like it. ❤️😊

I'm an elderly landlord, and most of my tenants are 20-50 years younger than me. I love the relationship we see here. If you've lived in apartment complexes managed by faceless corporations most of your adult life, try a small-time landlord and see what a difference a direct relationship can make. It's a partnership where both can benefit. I usually have to spend the first year of a tenancy convincing my poor wounded tenants that I don't have horns and fangs...

I’m a landlord of 20 houses with 30 more in the works. Like you, I also get a lot of feedback about how frustrating it is to rent from big companies. Many of my renters are relieved to experience the difference made by an actual landlord tenant relationship. I have several tenants that have stayed with me for years and some repeat renters. I’ve even got lots of letters of recommendation from them.

And his landlord was so sweet. I’d love for Drew to renovate his apartment for him even if Roger didn’t want it filmed. I’m sure it would be wonderful for the two of them to spend some more time together. And maybe Roger needs some help to make things more accessible with his lack of mobility. Hope his next tenants are as kind as you Drew. Ps Just read the other comments and seems everyone has the same idea! Glad everyone is on board. Let’s get it done for Roger YAY! 😍😍

I absolutely agree with you that Drew is the most talented, creative, resourceful designer on KZread. I have many favourites I watch all the time, but Drew has now surpassed them all - because he has a God-given talent plus he has a generous spirit, doing amazing designs for friends, family and now Landlord Roger free of charge. I definitely believe Drew is #1 👏 He not only has an extremely creative design sensibility, he has charm, kindness and charisma. Drew is definitely my favourite ❤️

You both lucked out with each other. He's so chill and was completely unbothered by any renovations you might've made over the years, and truly meant it! My landlord would've been all over me for any changes, especially if he lived right below me. And Roger ended up with a tenant with an incredible eye and managed to improve his rental!
