I built the original Arrow kit by Aurora back in the old days, twice. Kit cost $ 1.29. Decades later built the first Hobbbycraft release where they got the wings upside down. Paid $ 14.99 in 1987 and it stayed for in the stash for over 30 years. Still have it on display. never did pick up the later version or retools. I still have the 1/48 scale Hobbycraft Arrow in the stash and still ponder whether to build it or not. Surprised that no company has gone after the rights and released a new detailed upgraded kit. Tamiya would do an excellent job of creating one. We can still dream on.

@@MsModeller Others had said the same thing. Probably move it up to my next aircraft build. Built 2 Tamiya JapaneseWW2 fighters, Finishing up a Maus. Did Godzillas' Go-Kart before that. Have a Lotus, Panther, and Schnellboot in the queue. I mainly do amour but like to also do some aircraft and ships. Then something off the wall. Keep mixing them up. Found this video on those rare kits very interesting. So many rarities not only in manufacturers but it subjects out there. I like it when they do re-pops of the kits I remember building as a kid.

Being Canadian, the obvious choice would be the CF-105, but you've already made one and did a bang-up job with it! Based on this video, I think that the one you should build is the Super Galleb.

I swear I must be the only person who has built the Stratos4 version of the TSR-2 (it does feel like it sometimes)? You are correct that it is basically the normal TSR-2 with a few extra sprues for the Trident missile /RATO bottles and cockpit, but needs a lot of work to make it look like anything from the show. You also get the full set of normal TSR-2 decals for XR219, XR220 and XR222 (iirc?), which there seems to be more on the sheet I have compared to the one you have shown or my memory is failing me in old age. Then again the boxing I have is a Japanese Airfix boxing, not sure if that made a difference.

Tbf it must've sold well as it got more releases than the standard TSR2! I think it was just less popular in the West/European market - it's hillarious as nowadays that variant sells for less because people don't realise it has the normal TSR2 in it! 😂💜

Fascinating stuff. Thank you for sharing your Top 5 Rare kits. I love to hear the perspectives of other modellers. Of all the pieces in my collection, I do have a few rare specimens. Being a British 'Child of the Sixties', I lean heavily towards Airfix. Legend has it that the original castings for some kits have been lost or destroyed. This leaves an extremely limited supply of certain models. I am lucky enough to own a Mint in Box Sam 2 and several Boxed Type 2 Commandoes. My only concern: Collecting is addictive.

Airfix have said they do have more of the old moulds than I think people realise - hence all the glorious vintage classics we're getting. Others are owned by Heller during the Humbrol split up. But overall I'm excited to see new toolings in the future... I just hope some of these get made again! 😰😰

@@MsModeller You are clearly well versed in the history and current state of Airfix. I too am eager to see the new releases from Airfix and despite owning original bagged kits from the 1960s have bought all the new Vintage collection as well. I have read in several reference books that the Sam 2 was broken down and sold for scrap. I do hope that the Type 2 Commando Moulds still exist and are only temporarily missing. Please keep up your excellent work. Much appreciated.

Yumo company didn’t ever exsist.. It was made for purposes of this kit only, in 1998. When the person who owned the templates decided to stop producing the G-4, the company dissapeared never to be seen again. I am from Serbia (Ex Yugo) and i menaged to get hold of only one G-4… Even here they are really rare and expensive…

Honestly the C-101 is the one I'm most terrorfied of doing....but I love Patrulla Aguila so I must at some point! 😰💜

Thanks for the inspiration, I noticed in the video you have a CF 105 and I thought how nice it would be to build one, so while I was watching the video I went online found one at a reasonable price $150.00 dollars Canadian and ordered it, thanks again for the inspiration.

Very interesting watch! TSR2 is definitely on my wish list. Picked up an Airfix nimrod to try and do better than the poor attempt I managed when they first came out! Did you attend the Scottish scale model show over the 29/30th of April?

Oh wow, there's some cool kits in there! I definitely think you should build some of these, but maybe also keep the box? I myself do tend to save boxes to particularly meaningful kits after I build them. Most of them are hanging on my walls in my office lol

Everyone has 'bucket list' kits don't they? :) Just by careful what you pay to get them. The rarest of mine took a good few years of searching before it finally came up. I've only seen it offered for sale on two other occasions and I think I got mine for a steal. Interesting angle on this, keep making videos!

Absolutely! My favourite kit due to nostalgia and the memories of getting it is the Patrouille de France set from 2003. I'm going to do a video on it at some point - even though I've built them all, I need to do a video about why it means so much! 💜💜

Depending on the boxing the Heller Fouga can be a funny bird...i bought 3 of them and while all 3 of them showed West German Air Force and Patrouillie De France options on the painting and decaling guide each of them only had decals for a machine from the Austrian Air Force which is NOT on the painting and decaling guide

I was wondering how the Arrow would look in grey, you did a nice job. Those Arrows are for some reason very pricey now, well anything Hobbycraft. They aren't even great models to begin with but can be made nice. Hobbycraft is long gone unfortunately. If you can find a used kit from someones basement, grab it.

@@MsModeller They do pop up sometimes, just don't pay $100 for one. There is an Astra vac form which is a good one and correct. Sometimes a lot cheaper, I have one. Vacs aren't to hard to make, just a bit more prepping.
