Riiiight, that's what I said about Blu-rays 15 years ago... now there's thousands of them. Isn't as much difference with so called 4k releases though, so maybe it's doable. 😁

Dunkirk is one of my favourite films. So many people dislike it because they say the main character is a blank slate...which is the entire point. YOU are the character. Ah! It drives me nuts.

Nice collection 😀 Never been all that keen on steelbooks, but I do have a few. I actually have the german version of Prince of Darkness 4k. I have the 4 boxsets that you mentioned, I'm a huge John Carpenter fan :-D The Wizard of Oz one looks great, might have to look into that one. The Big Lebowski is one of my favorite films 😀 My experience is that it's not a chick flick 😀 I've shown it to 3 girlfriends through the years and they all hated it 😀 My favorite scene is where The Dude tries to flick his cigarette out the car window and the window is closed 😀

Hi Elliot. Great collection! Steelbooks are so tempting. I have some. But not enough for a video I think. But before I spend on doubling up on a movie I already have, I want to make sure that at least there's a new cover design. I was very disappointed with the Lord of the Rings steelbooks they released over here because they were just the same dvd covers. But these are great! That Oz one is gorgeous. And the Alien one is a very cool version of the alien egg. The Predator one is awesome and the only real good Predator movie I think. When I finally saw the Big Lebowski, it didn't do much for me. But I like that cover. Love the Carpenter ones. I like the way they tied them together art wise. Didn't see Dunkirk but of course I grew up with 2001. Very nice Elliot!

Cool to see these, mate. I think I only have the Dunkirk one. That 'First Man' steelbook in particular looks fantastic and somehow passed me by (love the movie though)... time to check eBay! I also recommend the Batman and Batman Returns 4K steelbooks if you don't have them already (I won't mention the other two films in that series!)

I have had my eye on those Batman steelbooks for a while! I haven't seen the other two movies since childhood! I do wonder if there's much redeemable in them.

Great titles. I love them all!!! First Man is so underrated. It's such a great film! The Big Lebowski is one of my favourite films too... And that's just, like, my opinion man.

I try to pickup only 4k's if I don't own them on blu ray and if they are native 4k. It just seems silly to me to buy upscaled 4k and then having to buy 4k again for a native version a couple of years down the road. I couldn't resist the 4k steelbook of Spider-Man homecoming though... upscaled but just beautiful(the HMV version). Nice collection Elliot! Very jealous of the carpenter set!

I hear you on expense of steelbooks. I would love to buy all my favourites on uhd steelbook. But made a decision to be realistic, i will just get some of them in steelbook form. The important thing really is actually having them on 4k to see them in that resolution is really the important thing. So just got accept that. Some of the covers are still quite nice even though they aren't steelbooks.

Great collection of steelbooks…. Although Alien is one of my most favorite sci fi films, I remember getting nauseous the first time I saw "that scene". lol I also think the ensemble work in the film is amazing. Everyone does a great job of standing out in their own way.... (I do think they should left well enough alone after Aliens. All the subsequent sequels were definitely lacking.)

Elliot, thank you for mentioning the Wizard of Oz Steelbook. I am in the States but ordered it from amazon.co.uk after determining that ordering it from amazon.com would ultimately cost me $15.00 more.

Since they obviously usually cost additional money, I don't usually bother buying Steelbooks unless I can find them for a comparable price to the regular-package version (which does happen sometimes!), but one of the only Steelbooks that I went out of my way to buy despite the extra cost was Bohemian Rhapsody. Queen is my favorite band and they and their music really mean so much to me, so even though the film had some notable/significant flaws, I still enjoyed it. I love the design of the Steelbook too, it's gold-colored with purple-ish line art of Freddie, it looks so nice!

Great vid, Elliot! I have not seen either Dunkirk or 1917, but I was wondering which of these films you liked more?

I treat my 4ks like my Blu-ray buying. I usually just go with the best looking copy. I want the viewing experience to be as close to how the director filmed it. 4K, when the restoration is done right, gives us just that.

Exactly, well said. I want to see it how the director envisioned it. The old days of VHS and pan and scan were the antithesis of this. I think you could get copies of Lawrence of Arabia in 4:3 aspect ratio! It makes me shudder just thinking of it. Anyway, thanks for checking the video out and for supporting the channel, it really means a lot to me!

Some beautiful looking titles there. I don’t own many 4K steelbooks. Mainly because the ones I’ve seen are ugly as sin or are (already) OOP. You have some fantastic ones, though. Well done.😁

I live in the u.s. and I LOVE 2001, I wish that steelbook was available here.

I love the artwork for that Wizard Of Oz steelbook! I have French steelbook releases of the Harry Potter series. I love the artwork for them and think they look so good and better than the regular blu-ray releases of the series. I remember getting them, though, and my mom was confused, asking me if the movies were in French. I just laughed and said, Mom, the movies were MADE in English. It's still the same movies. The only thing French about these is the writing on the release itself. I don't have any 4K/UHD releases at all. I'm pretty sure we don't have one of those players. I'm not sure about certain game consoles that my brother has. As of now I'm not really concerned with getting any. I actually didn't even want to get a 4K TV. I hate watching the TV we have downstairs in the living room because it looks too fake to me, especially with movement on the screen. But the TV I got a couple years ago I have set up so it doesn't give that effect. I'm really not sure about any technical terms here, so hopefully you get what I mean, lol. I'm also just not that caught up in the more technical side of being a film collector.

Hey Bailee, thanks for the comment and for watching :) Yes, that effect that most new TVs have on is called motion blur - it essentially ups the frame rate of what you're watching, so it looks like a soap opera. I hate it and always have it turned off!

Tell me you got the little cardigan that slips on The Big Lebowski steelbook?

A lot of people seem to prefer Aliens over Alien. I still like the original the best (which you seem to do as well). Haven’t watched it in a while though, should probably do that soon. Regarding steelbooks, I used to be more into collect them but nowadays I seem to care less and less about the actual packaging. They’re still awesome though!

I used to be so anal with my steelbooks with protecting them etc but definitely calmed down now I'm a bit older lmao, probably could be kinder now, just chuck them back on the shelf.

Hello my friend! I also tend to buy them from HMV, and also on ebay. I keep an eye on the deals on bluray.com - it's a good way of finding the best deals out there.

I simply don't understand the low opinions of Toy Story 4, it is very high in my list of Toy Story films.

I only have like 10 steel books idc about fingerprints I mainly use plastic cases to prevent scratches cause 35$ for a painted metal case if that shit gets scratched I’ll be upset

'Dude', I see now you used to be happier just a couple years ago, not as somber as now. Maybe it's all the crappy Criterion films weighing you down? 😂 Did you sell that Alien steelbook, as you later said you were getting rid of them, for some crazy incoherent to me reasons... Also, there was a Prince of Darkness steelbook in that series at the time you recorded this video, and last year The Thing came out in the same style (besides two more different steels for it).

Don't know if anyone is like me but every blu ray or 4k blu ray or box set I slice open all and slide out and watch then slide back into the cellophane, anal? I been doing this since the days of lps fiddly but stops any scuffs when sliding in and out of shelves.

I totally get that, John. It's not something I do personally, but I do have these protective covers for steelbooks as they're most prone to scuffs and scratches. For other blu-rays , if a case gets particularly damaged, I just replace the case. Anyway, thanks for watching as always :)
