The damage is from a semi making a turn and the rear of the trailer swinging into the side of the car. At least that's my best guess.

The damage is too low. If it were a dock high box truck or trailer the damage would have been in the roofline. It's probably a cube van. Something similar happened to my Eclass a few years ago in the same spot. Tore the door up good.

I was thinking plow my ex girlfriends father did that he turned into a parking spot caught the side of a car an just kept goin had very similar damage

I can guarantee that was from a boxtruck taking a turn, the rear swinging out and the underride guard tearing through, grabbing, and possibly dragging the whole car.

I can really appreciate the history and research that goes into learning about the cars history as being built and sold. Then what appears to be off-the-cuff, reciting an entire history of maybach from car build, to where the car manufacturers went. Its pretty dope.

Looks like that “scratch” lines up pretty well with the height of a rear bumper from a box truck or semi trailer

Same thing happened to my Cayenne in NYC - i got hit by the garbage truck while street parked overnight. Now I notice cars with similar damage all over the city. F*cking NYSD.

Hope you never need a alternator. I'm a Mercedes mechanic down in Texas and had to put on one on a 57s and it cost the owner $16,000 for parts and labor. The alternator was 95% of the cost the last time I quoted him struts they were $4,800 per one from benz and $1,200 for those missing Champaign glasses.

when I was a young man, I took a spin in the snow & did some minor damage. My friend was a mechanic so I went over to his house. I didn't want to admit the mistake so I said someone had clipped it while I was shopping. Just at that moment, My friends dad (who wad a damage assessor for an insurance company), stepped out of his house, took one look at my car & said "I see youve spun and hit a wall". He even knew how fast I was going and the type of wall I had hit.

I love the relationship Tyler and his daughter have !! This is so wholesome :))

This was really nice video to watch, I think you`ll fix everything. And the end was perfect, the kids are so honest.

This is an amazing beast. I had one of them years ago, this is a keeper. I say anywhere up to $35,000 once fixed, still is a good deal.

@@vikingman4614 depends on whether they live within a metropolitan area, where public transit is abundant or in a rural area where car travel is more necessary. Like if you were in Toronto or New York, you would more likely be taking transit or telecommuting. Of course if you could afford the cost of living and a car, then you're doing alright. You could still find a job using public transit. If you're in a rural area like Upstate New York or parts of Vermont, you would be better off with a car to commute to a job.

Had one. Same number of cars but mostly 80s and 90s US cars plus the odd Honda Small city driveway + detached small garage + crappy midwestern weather = major upper body strength gained from pushing dead cars in the winter Got good at remembering which parent drove what which day Started carrying tools in my backpack for the inevitable breakdown Was a lot of fun!

Yes, that back door is a different color. I’m also pretty sure the rear curtains were different. The passenger side was black and the driver side looked like a gray curtain. Thing has had a rough life.

Whomever had this car before was a bad driver. Those doors are different colors, the curb rash on the wheels and ughhh...the center cap and lug nuts 🤦🏼‍♀️ Well, it was a deal, but I agree with Ellie. The outside is about as exciting as a bowl of oatmeal. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Nah, have you seen the McClaren videos? If not, it'll be a real treat. This car, runs, drives and hasn't been ripped in half or backed into a guard rail after a front end collision. So, it's got that going for it, which is nice!

LOL. It only needs part of the roof replaced, the Maybach specific door and fender, as well as inner fender, inner sill structure. Yeah this car is junk. Not worth it. 20 grand + parts and labor puts you way over the price of one in good condition, let alone one with a salvage title.

I used to work at a grocery store in Connecticut in the same exact Plaza as that Walmart. There was a basketball player who used to drive a newish Alpina (not sure which one) all the time and shopped in my store. It's incredibly rare to see that expensive of a car in the city that recipt is from. Real tall guy, taller than 6'7 for sure. I never knew his name unfortunately but I did some research and the one player that looks very similar is Greg Strokes, a retired nba player from Connecticut and his daughter was attending UCONN, a college in the area. I'm confident that car used to belong to him

I'm not sure when Distronic cruise control came out, but I have it on my 2001 S500. Still working well, too.

Nice pro installed video system with JBL Control series speakers. I see the rack tucked in there too.

A truck has turned when it was too close to the car, and the back end has swung around and cut the car open. Pretty classic stuff. I often get a bit concerned when I see trucks with long rear overhangs making turns close to other cars, and have actually had my wing mirror damaged by the swinging back end of a turning truck.

I had the same thing on my BMW. Box trucks have metal spikes that stick out on the rear steps, if you cut across them or they cut across you too closely at the rear of the box that's what you get.

“The problem with maybachs at the time was that they made them look a lot like S classes” well yes, and they still do it, even today 😂

keep in mind when this car came out, the best s-class mercedes had to offer was the w220. yuck. so it was amazing back in the day (and still is today due to its uniqueness)

Actually, the W221 S-Class was released after the Maybach and made to look it. The 57 and 62 looked nothing like W220 when they came out in 2004. Only reason they did not sell well is because of brand recognition or lack of it. They should have called it the Mercedes Maybach from the beginning like they are doing now.

Actually, I read Mercedes Benz, Lost over $400,000 on each car.... That's roughly how much the British magazine Car estimates Mercedes has lost on every Maybach it sold. It calculated that Mercedes absorbed 330,000 Euros of red ink on every Maybach it sold, which translates to about $437,000 and change apiece. Maybach (pronounced MY-bock) marked a revival of a brand that first came to life in 1909. The modern version debuted seven years ago and Mercedes thus far has sold about 3,000 of the luxury cars worldwide. Car estimates that Mercedes sank $1.32 billion into the venture, which is how it came up with its calculation for how much the company lost per vehicle.

Its easy to do, for example the parts to do a front brake job on these cars are $2200 and the labor is...well..if you have to ask

Most probably a forklift. Maybe the car was parked in the way of a construction site and they got some revenge? I've seen a Maserati picked up by one and flipped on it's roof.

I think that's a good guess. This was clearly not some sideswipe accident. It looks like it was intentional. The way the door is pushed in, it sure looks like a forklift caused it.

Watching this thing being restored will be fun.
