    I plan to invest at least $500 a month all through this year. The budget tracker I used for over 2 years was filled twice a year so I plan to do it monthly or quarterly like you guys. I plan to read 6 investing books this year. I have read 1. The little book of common sense in Investing and currently reading The Intelligent investor. I also plan to watch your videos at least once a week and interact with your posts as I am also a business owner (Professional Photography) @ Papous Creative Studios. Keep up with your great content. Love it. 🎉❤🎉

    I've been quietly following and watching both of you for a few years. First, congrats on 100K subs! Secondly, in my big old age, I've learned so much from you. I wish I had half the knowledge when I was your age because I'd be rich by now! However, I've taken a lot of your advice this year I'm contributing the max to my 401K, HSA Account, and Roth IRA, and I've bought some EFTs and Index Funds. I can only imagine how proud your parents are of you! Keep going and I'll be here to celebrate 200K subs with you!

    I also spent way too much on Uber Eats last year and I had to ask myself WHY that happened. The answer was clear - lack of preparation. So now, I make it a priority to go grocery shopping every weekend with specific meals in mind for all 3 meals and snacks during the day. In addition to this, cooking ahead of time and having the meals ready to eat will reduce that urge for instant gratification that delivery apps give us.

    Echoing the 'no UberEats' goal like crazy! I decided to tally up my expenses in 2023 just before the new year, and saw that we spent $3,000 on food delivery and $2,300 on takeout! Mostly from getting my lunch at work.. not anymore! I've already deleted UberEats/Skip from my phone and have committed to meal prepping properly for 2024. My other financial goal is to put as much money into my mortgage as I can! Just got it in November and it's nearly 6%. Gonna hopefully pay it off in 6-8 years instead of 25!

    I am actually going to do 6 months of No-Buying for the entire month. Will likely alternate or clump together a couple of months. Last summer I did my first month long No-Buy and was able to cash flow my entire move abroad. My hope this year is to reach my emergency savings goal and max out my Roth IRA. Starting January off with a No-Buy and am feeling good so far!

    Great video! Your videos always help to keep me motivated for my own financial goals :) This year, I am aiming to spend less on clothing (trying to only buy things that are a need rather than a want) and save up for 10 or less pieces of clothing that are perfect rather than buying more items that are just okay but not great (I end up with too many clothes to fit in my closet this way). I am also trying to sell clothes I don't wear to free up space and money! Also, would you ever consider doing a met-up or group for young people interested in finance/investing? I am in the Toronto area too and would love to meet you both one day! :)

    Thank you! We’re planning on doing quarterly update videos to show how we’re doing! The first one will be at the end of March 😊 Last year our groceries ended up being about $300/month each (just under actually) - but it used to be higher! The biggest changes we made were 1) buying meat in bulk at Costco a few times a year and 2) not overbuying (aka we don’t have very much food waste at all)

    Instead of giving up Uber Eats cold turkey, could you not make it a goal to use as an affiliate income opportunity? It depends on what you are comfortable with. However, if you create the affiliate income to offset the expense, you get to keep it. 💡

    I have never ordered food online or over the phone. I do all the cooking by myself. I just buy "raw materials". Most of the time my meals do cost under $5. I spend like $400/month on food. I do not spend money on cable or internet TV. I have a serious antenna in the attic and I'm able to see like 25 OTA channels. I have a prepaid phone ( voice and data). I work from home and I mostly use VOIP or apps. I have a car that sits in the garage all the winter. In the summer, I only use it on weekends. So, outside the mortgage, my expenses are very, very low. When I purchased my home in 2011, I was broke for about 3 years. I had to put in place a "survival plan". I have tried to reduce my expenses as much as possible. The situation changed for the better. I had lower interest rates for a few years and I kept the same payments. I was able to cut 7 years from my original amortization period ( 30 years). I'm down to roughly 10 years.

    If you plan to buy a house in the short term why don't you prioritize investing $35000 in your RRSP and use that tax-deductible to invest in your TFSA? You can withdraw up to $35,000 from your RRSP (or $70,000 per couple) for a first-time home purchase. I'm currently planning to buy my first house but don't know which one should I prioritize RRSP up to $35000 or TFSA.

    I think there may be a glitch with the budget overview page, specifically the income section. Do I have to wait until the month is over before moving forward and entering my salary for the next month? Once I change to the next month and enter the salary for February, it overrides January's salary to match (on the annual budget page).

  • @stephandden

    @stephandden

    7 ай бұрын

    You only fill out the 'Budget Overview' tab one time - so you'd input your budget goals, and your current salary. If your salary changes for the next month, you enter that information on the 'Monthly Expense Tracker' tab, specifically within the 'Income Tracker' table on that tab. Then, it keeps January's salary as is on the 'Annual Budget' tab, but adjusts to the new salary amount moving forward. 😊

    Great video as always, you two! A few questions, where are you investing your money again? By where, I just mean which stocks or mutual funds? And also, what program do you use for those graphics? They really make the quality stand out in each of your videos. Looking to transfer my current TFSA with my bank to an FHSA and pick different stocks with them. Even though banks don't have my best interest in mind. My WealthSimple account is performing relatively well, with a lot of the dividends I receive going straight to more capital for me to re-invest. But 1k a month for investing is an insanely high number, just want to congratulate the both of you in reaching these numbers! It sucks that last year was so tough but everything happens for a reason, I'm forced to believe. I was making so much progress towards my financial savings and investments, but now I'm saving significantly less and investing much less, too. Figuring out ways to turn hobbies into something that could pay me is my goal this year, but it's been a slow start unfortunately. Wish you both the best this year! Also, I'll be trying out this No UberEats challenge as well! Not exactly sure how to tally all of my Uber Eats' orders, but I can only imagine that it's high... Maybe not as high as yours, but it might be! I'll report back xD

    Thanks so much! We have a new video coming out this Sunday about our investments, but we're now both investing in XEQT (which is an ETF!). We like Adobe Premiere Pro for editing 😊 That's great! Let us know how you find the process of transferring your TFSA into an FHSA - we'd be curious to see how the process went. + Thank you! We've definitely climbed up to those numbers over the past few years! We hope that this year is a better year for you - love that you're keeping a positive attitude. In terms of your financial progress, life isn't always linear, but you'll always trend back up! You've got this. 🙏🏿🙏🏻 + yay for the UberEats challenge! Ha 😂 definitely report back! Maybe you can export a spreadsheet of your bank statements and see how many times UberEats comes up!

    @@stephandden Hey, no worries! I'll check out your investing video soon, as I'm currently auditing my spending on Uber this past year. Seems to be I spent between $700-850$ on Uber in 2023. A bit lower than I expected considering the amount of times I've ordered. Glad to be under 1k, although... I still would buy meals outside of the uber app almost every week as a reward for the days I was cycling, which were plenty. I should have my bank appointment this week, so I'll let you know how the process goes with transferring! Just hoping someone knows what they're doing, lol. And thank you for the kind words, hoping the same. Things come so unexpectedly, but my viewpoint heading into 2024 is mostly positive so hoping I can traverse these waves a bit more easily now. Thanks again for the reply!!
