GOOD FOR YOU. I was there last February. After some research, I decided to drastically cut back on my carbohydrate intake. Sometimes called a Keto diet. It was really not that hard, and continues to be sustainable. Turned my body into being fat adapted -- i.e. I can now easily burn fat instead of using carb-derived energy. Went from a BMI of 28.9 to 22.5 in six months (5'8", 190 lbs to 148). Been stable since then (4 months). This has allowed me to run (again) and exercise better. Diet first (get fat-adapted)-- then exercise. I recommend you get a blood test, especially get your A1C checked, for a baseline as well. You're a KZread guy -- check out the great channels that discuss this -- "Dr. Berry," "Dr Berg," and "Low Carb Down Under" channels. And it *is* sustainable, especially if you allow a little cheating on special days only (birthday, Xmas, etc.). By the way, I'm 63, and I gained my ~40 pounds over 20 years. Lost them in less than 1 year. Good Luck!

Make sure you’re going ALL the way down on those push-ups! I wouldn’t ordinarily call you out on it but you did mention “the half pull ups that everyone does.” Same goes for push ups! Good luck!

way to put yourself out there, man. you might want to consider pickin up an elliptical to drop lbs before running as much (easier on joints, & they're practically free 2nd hand). i also prefer leg raises (with hands under small of back) over sit-ups, esp from off the edge of the bed where you get a deeper/longer pull & can alternate offset sides to work the love handles, lol.

Like you, I'm starting to exercise this year. I've gotten away from it for a couple years. Although at twice your age, I start more slowly and work up over a few weeks. And I've found that, weather permitting, it's much easier to run outdoors than on a treadmill.

  • @Challenged1

I like to run outdoors as well, love the scenery. Starting this in the winter, it may be a while before I can do that though. I'm with you on starting slowly. Over the last couple of weeks, I've hopped on the treadmill a few times doing a brisk walk for a couple miles just to start getting my body used to it.

Light running on a treadmill is very easy on the body - running outside is much harder. Keep heart rate under 160 or at a level you can still speak easily, and jog a 1 or 2 mile warmup before workouts. I try to walk 2k to coffee shop every day, but you need an urban trail system for that

Ok - so you asked for an update - I went from 190 down to 173 -im 6' tall. Went in for my annual check up and all my tests came back really improved. Here is what i did . Gave up all sugar or any sugar substitutes. Changed my diet to a almost no carbohydrate diet. I eat all I want and actually stuff myself. LOTs of meat chicken fish. I did not change my activity level; but I'm pretty active. My aches and pains are a .lot less. I wont say I'm on a carnivore diet as I still eat vegetables. I think you have to eat plenty fats along with the meat. I start my day with 5 eggs and about 1/3 pound of some meat. I also drink mostly water. One of my best friends from high school went on a strict carnivore diet and went from 230 to 175 over 9 months and now is using a modified diet of just good food with low carbs and no sugar. i now think anything with sugar should come with a skull and crossbones on the label; carbohydrates are converted into sugar in your system but you do need a very limited amount. i see fat people around me trying to eat less and drinking diet sodas. Totally wrong approach . to me diet is the key@@Challenged1

@@billmoody9736 Congrats on your changes and success. I too, changed my diet at the beginning of October to a primarily carnivore diet. At that time I was 229 and I'm down to 212 this morning. What's really amazing is I'm finally building muscle, which is something I've struggled with for as long as I can remember. I'm planning to do a year end update video in a couple of weeks.

Don't be so hard on yourself, the average failed attempts to stop smoking is 25. WORKOUTS: Day 1 - pulls Day 2 - pushes Day 3 - rest REPEAT Weight loss is 80% diet, 20% exercise. Most snacks are 1200 calorie's per bag on average, so don't eat processed packaged snacks. Fill up on carrots and water - if starving in the night. After six weeks of workouts to build muscle mass, good sleep, and eating habits, start fasting for 20 hours per day Monday to Friday (only eat between 4 and 8 pm) Until the weight comes off at 1 or two pounds per week. 6 months later you will be a new man.

I echo the other sentiments, it's not good to run and overdo it as you did in this video. After you see a doctor to make sure there are no issues that would prevent your fitness program, I think it would be best to walk at a brisk pace building yourself up over time and eating nutrient dense low calorie foods.
