    The YJ was a nice simple rig with a fully-boxed frame. Some critics might say that it wasn't a good offroader, but it could run 30s stock, and 33s could fit with just some simple, affordable mods, like a 1" bodylift and TJ Rubicon flares or tubed fenders. Freeing the suspension to articulate was also as simple as disconnecting the trackbars and anti-swaybar. The front could flex even more by relocating the brake hardlines to underneath the framerails by using the bumpstop bolts...'No money needed. Lunchbox lockers and a winch were easy to add too. A rear TJ or XJ D44 or Explorer 8.8 were common mods too. I drove a '95 for almost 15yrs. It went to both coasts several times, and commuted every schoolday and workday.

    @@YJ-xg3xr go, go, go! 😎 Proud for you! I have a full set of doors and half doors for my 88 YJ Sahara and swap them out summer and winter, soft top/hard top style which is great considering weather change (KY) .. & one of the first things I did was build a custom box for two 10-in kicker subwoofers behind the back seat. It fit just barely perfectly, was totally worth it!

    nice build, similar to my (alberta) '89 as I even have the warn kit , my drivers mat warped at top due to long haul down to california (exhaust just under) so I JB welded some hacksaw blades underneath to regain its shape, kept my front trac bar but use a JKS telescopic as I did notice body lean and roll so have best of both worlds now, looks real nice - will check in later and see what else your up to.

    Hello! I have suddenly come into possession of a YJ Wrangler that belonged to my late father. Its a 1993 with a 4.0 straight-six and a 3-Speed auto. 180k miles are on it, definitely a driven vehicle. Not in bad shape but not perfect either. From what I can tell, most of it is stock. I'm overall not too much of a Jeep guy but this Wrangler is growing on me, if I were to keep it what are some of the first things I should do to this vehicle?

  • @wesbarcus3761

    Very clean, time for high lift jack, maybe a winch. Before that try MSD 6al ignition box and high vibration coil. Works very well on my 93. On the 8.8, had one very dependable, but axles held in by c clips. 1 inch wheel spacers or see if you can find chromoly axle set with bearings at end. BDS springs are very durable. Great walkaround.

    Hey Wes, thanks for your comment. I actually ordered some brackets to mount a hi-lift across the back of the rollbar but they interfere with the rear seatbelt retractors so don't seem to work. I am in the process of converting to a custom flat dash, maybe the winch will be next. Did you notice a gain in throttle response with the electronic ignition?

    Leaning hard towards purchasing my first wrangler. Have always loved the YJ. Honest opinion- ‘94 YJ 115k miles, new tires, needs shock body mount. Owner Asking $2k. Should I pull the trigger? (Afraid I’ll lose my shirt replacing body mount)

  • @YJ-xg3xr

    @YJ-xg3xr

    3 жыл бұрын

    Is the body mount shot due to rust? If so, check the frame closely, especially at the transfer case skid pan mounts, steering box, rear shock towers and rear spring mounts. The one body mount shouldn't cost much to fix if that's the only problem area. The 94 and 95 models are definitely preferable, especially the 4.0L.

    I hear ya! I ordered most of the parts from Quadratec and did everything myself other than the lockers, re-gearing and upgraded axles. So even though it still adds up, it could certainly have cost even more. I wouldn’t expect to be able to recover all costs if sold but I built it to keep long term.
