A bunch of cool cars came out of the Mitsubishi/Daimler Era. This is my favorite though. The HVAC screen has always been the coolest interior feature to me, plus the vent directly under the steering wheel that I've heard people call the balls vent 🤣

Awesome car , I'm building a 93 3000GT/Stealth hybrid right now. I love my car lol. Its tough losing a parent, believe me I know, my Dad and Mom have both passed on. Just hold on to those memories. Keep up the great content.

I was born in '91 and haven't had a car newer than a 1999. I'm surprised at how well equipped these were. Power locks and windows were pretty common even on cheap-ish cars, but you still got manual windows on low-trim bargain-basement cars. Power mirrors were a little more scarce but my lil Mazda MX3 (smaller and cheaper than your Stealth; my first car) had that as well. What's really high end is the leather, the climate control, the stereo controls on the wheel, CD Player (though by the late 90's those were common), and the ABS--most of that was still luxury car stuff in the early 90s. What's the stuff of spaceships is the magnetic suspension (with sport mode). I'm not sure who else had magnetic suspension in '92 outside of supercar territory, maybe Lexus or Mercedes. It's really luxurious for a "sports car" and/or is a true luxury grand tourer. These blow my mind for how advanced they were and, if your car's any indication, how well put together they are. Mitsubishi and Chrysler had sorta a reputation for being cheap at that time (not my opinion, but kinda a popular one back then with the endless K-car derivatives and the Dodge Colts) with a lot of parts sharing going on (GM was also guilty of this) but apart from the window whine and the door locks (which sound exactly like my '99 Cherokee's), this looks pretty bespoke. Would've been a cosmic spaceship back at that Dodge dealer in 1992.

Totally. It is way more of a luxury grand tourer. Had it up to some decent speeds on the freeway yesterday with a new NSX no issues, so stable at every speed, so comfortable yet so fast, all while feeling so solid.

@@PaulLukeBonenfant Wow! Italian tune-up, eh? I like it! Have you had any problems from it sitting so long? (I imagine it had old gas and oil and coolant in it when it was sitting, yes?) I'm thinking of the Car Wizard on Hoovie's Garage's recent videos about his Vette and him saying "If you let a car sit with all its fluids you're doomed! DOOMED!!" (If anybody gives you guff for it being FWD--which I imagine is the only reason people have not to worship these--just tell 'em it's a JDM Citroen SM. That oughta shut 'em up. :D )

@@Doctor_Robert Haha! Most people are too busy looking at it to care about the wheel drive thankfully. In a GT it really doesn't matter I'm coming to find. As for the engine and suspension, everything liquid or rubber had to be drained and replaced. The most recent thing to go was my ABS pump. Old brake fluid rotted it out from the inside. Other than that, these engines are bulletproof at the block and the DOHC system is solid. The damage was not as bad as I thought it would be.

Back when I was in high school one of my dream cars was the 3000GT. Beautiful design, state of the art mechanical and was an icon in my eyes. This Stealth is no exception, looks amazing! Hope you keep it forever.

What a car! I had a blue 92 r/t with 60k miles (someone pulled out at the wrong time, total loss), but now I have a white 91 r/t with 80k, that I bought in 2015 with 64k. These cars are just an absolute dream to drive, and yes, my ECU is busted af. Stuck in Sport mode but unbothered. Your dad had great taste, keep it forever as these cars are becoming quite rare year after year.

Hey man, great video! FYI, that horrible sound with the door open is the ETACS buzzer. If you pop off the radio surround trim, then remove four Phillips screws to remove the radio from the cavity, you can access the plug to disconnect it. It is a blue two pronged plug in front of the gold ECU, to the passenger side of the cavity. I've been working on these cars since 2008, and have owned about 40 of them, so if you have any questions about specifics feel free to reach out. It's good to see someone loving and appreciating them for what they were back in the day, these cars were light years ahead of everything else at the time and they really don't get the press they deserve. Beautiful car, good story, and I look forward to seeing more!

Thanks for the tip! I might do that when I eventually change the speakers out- on that note, would you say taking out the interior trim for speaker replacements is a hectic process? I’m deciding whether to have a pro do it, or to just DIY

@@PaulLukeBonenfant So... Speaker removal CAN be an issue, but if you're patient it's totally capable to be done DIY. It looks daunting at first, because you disassemble quite a bit, but it's actually pretty simple. For the doors, you start by removing one screw at the narrow end of the carpeted piece at the bottom of the door panel, and then slide it back towards the outside edge of the door. It pops right off! There are two white clips which will likely stay in the door panel, pull those out and put them back in the slots on the back of the carpeted piece. Then it's just a matter of going around the outside edge of the door and removing screws. Two at the front, with flip caps to cover their heads, and a third in the round opening for the passenger defrost vent. Two at the back of the door, easily visible, then three or four at the bottom of the door under where the carpeted piece was. Lastly, you'll have one screw in the door handle cup. Once it's removed, pull the door handle out, and silde the cup backwards, then pull it out. There are two little prongs that hold the cup onto the door handle assembly, and they sometimes break. Not a big deal! After that, take hold of the large door handle on the door panel and pull directly upward. It's not entirely uncommon for the top of the panel to be stuck on the door, but it comes off with a bit of wiggling. Once the panel is free, there's a plug for the door light, then a plug for the window switch, and boom, you're done! The door speakers are very easy to remove once you're in there, just a matter of hooking up new ones and calling that a day.

The rear speakers are where it gets complicated. First, you'll be removing the lower half of the back seats. There is a clip on each side of the seat, visible in a little cubby on the bottom of the seat. Squeeze and lift, and it should pop out. The back seat bottom should then just slide out. Once it's out, there are three 12mm bolts at the bottom of the seat backs. Undo those, then you should be able to remove them from the car by releasing the mechanism to fold them down.

Once you have those out, you'll need to unbolt the front seatbelt from the side of the floor board on each side, using a 17mm. Then, moving up to the pivot point on the B pillar, use a small flathead to pry the cover open for the 17mm bolt there, and remove it as well. Once it's loose, you'll notice the trim piece on the door panel has a Phillips head screw behind where the belt was, remove that and slide the trim towards the back of the car, and it pops out. Under that trim piece is a Phillips head screw, pull that one too. Then, look down to the floor pan, and there is another Phillips head screw there holding on a silver attachment point for the rear quarter panel cover. Take that bad boy out too. Then, where the back seats latch onto their striker, there are two screws holding the black trim piece on there. Pull those, and a third about 3/4 of the way down the panel. We're almost there!

Once you have all of that undone, you'll need to pull the rear seat belt to the side at the top, and remove the screw holding the rear seat belt cover on, and pop the cover off. It can be a little challenging, but it pivots towards you when you're trying to remove it. Once it's off, there's a 17mm bolt behind the body, and it flips out and down. Grab a short Phillips head screwdriver, and remove the two Phillips head screws in the cavity where the seat belt was, and the panel is free!

I have a 1993 dodge stealth RT non-turbo, and I'm planning on restoring it 👏 definitely gonna take a while but I can't wait until it's on the road.

I have a 1991 ES 24 DOHC manual transmission Dodge Stealth aka 3000GT Mitsubishi since 1993 Firestorm Red. I agree with you that the car is special and fun to drive. Note I was 40 when I bought it, my Son also wants it some day. It has 210,000 miles but has a 60,000 miles used engine from Japan (Long story related to not passing smog). Make more videos please.

I too am grateful she kept it. It will always be in my garage- as for school and work, I am an actor and music producer, so that’s the route I’ll continue to take. For the time being it supports the maintenance on my 90’s mobiles

Try to find a 93 3000GT VR4 factory radio, they have a digital screen that matches the climate control!

Just picked up an 94 base model

My dad had the exact same car (rims and color) but the turbo version a long time ago. I really want one but by the time I am able to drive and afford one they will be almost all gone and rusted. Oh ya and this was uploaded on my birthday, idk I found that a pretty crazy coincidence.

i drove a 91 black dodge stealth rt just like this from 2012 to 2017 daily. i sold it because i got bored and bought a twin turbo version
