    videos like this are SOOOOO incredibly helpful. You do musicians across the world a huge favor with these demo vids. These are the next best thing to actually going into a shop with your gear and swapping pedals out one by one and taking entire days of your life off the calendar in the process. Big thank you!

    Nice demo as always, guys. I thought I'd point out you can get around some of the scoop of the color switch eq by cranking the midrange. If you don't, 800hz in your signal basically looks like the Grand Canyon. I got this from killer Japanese bassist Ikuo about a decade ago. I use the DI+ every day. I have four of them but still rely mostly on the first one I bought in the early 00s. A real working class hero for bass.

    A very interesting feature of this pedal is that it can be phantom powered through its Direct Output XLR from a phantom powercapable mixing console by pressing down the phantom switch of the MXR. The XLR cable send the signal to the mixing console while powering the pedal. I did it during rehearsals and it's great. PS : the trigger knob works very well.

    Hey guy's have you ever messed with the Tech 21 RPM rack mount preamp and if so what did you think about it. I'm looking for a new preamp and i found one for $144 at a pawn shop but i also found this MXR pedal on Craigslist for $100. I use a tech 21 VT pedal through my hartke LH500 which sounds pretty good but it's a new year so i need new gear 😀. You are my go to bass review guy's so i trust your input 👍

    Does the parallel output actually "split" the signal, i.e. reduce the strength of it? For instance a basic switcher that isn't buffered you are actually reducing the strength of the signal where as a buffered switch does not lose strength.

    Love my M80. I pair it with a M108 as my "final tone shaper section" right before going to the amp. One issue I have encountered with it, though, is how the XLR output seems much weaker than other DI's I've used in the past, ALMOST as if there was a built-in -20db pad in it which can't be switched out. That weakness requires the mixing board preamp to make up for it, which kind of defeats the purpose, this being marketed as a preamp / DI combo :P

    I have both on my pedalboard, with Battalion stacked first. I prefer Battalions drive sound and pre/post/dry settings more than that of M80. However, color button on M80 gives a great 'body' to the overall sound but maybe too mid-scooped for my taste, so I use Battalion's two mid knobs to compensate that huge frequency drop. Sometimes I engage both their drives in series to obtain serious grit. Batalion is closer to Darkglass sound, while M80 is more similar to SansAmp - I prefer having both options at foot diaposal.

  • @benthompson9349

    @benthompson9349

    7 ай бұрын

    The amp doesn't have to be flat, you can EQ however you like. It's hard to tell where 'flat' is on an amp anyway, it isn't necessarily all knobs at 12, unless there's a graphic EQ. Personally I use preamp pedals in the effects loop of an amp, bypassing the power amp stage and using the preamp only so all the tonevand EQ is coming from the pedal.

I can allready tell you though it's not gonna have much good sound if any. Saw this MXR vid, and don't hear much coming out to be concerned with as far as any bass tone. mario fransisco, yes you can. The combination of both is actually the best sound I have ever heard so far.

    Sounds better then that Dark glass piece of shit at least you get color with distortion along with tone that's not overly muddy

    So different ... mxr is more transparent except when you engage "color", has a metallic distortion-like with a gate and independent footswitch to engage it, cool features and cool sound IMO. SansAmp has neither gate nor footswitch for its warm overdrive, but it has its own character and I'd use it to get an all-time on pedal. As mavbass1 has said ... both ;-)

    twice the price and model not in the question ;-) ... it reminds me when I asked in a forum about a bass and someone told me to buy one costing 5 times the one I was interested in ... Now it's a bit different, it's more a taste matter, features are similar and mxr pedals are well made. Anyway, he should try it first with his bass and amp.

    I just got my MXR DI+ and the noise gate works way better than I expected. I ran a Boss SD1 overdrive and a Boss DS1 Distortion into it with the distortion on the MXR on and it cleaned up nicely. With the noise gate off there was insane feedback between notes. It works great on mine.

    This guy always talks just a little too damn loud for these video presentations. You always wanna tend to crank these videos up at the start of it because you wanna hear the bass clearly through your headphones/speakers, then his voice cuts in at way too high at a volume.

    I understand that when doing these demo's, everyone dials up the extremes to show what the pedal has to offer. That being said, I usually want to CHOKE every person in every video that is adjusting the pedals while the other person is playing. Are these knob-turners DEAF or what????? OMG! (haha)
