If someone with a name like "Donnie Distortion" tests a bass pedal, I expect good stuff. Thank you for being one of the few guys to use a pick and actually turn gain and blend all the way up. It's like other channels are afraid of actually using the pedal.

nice review. I use the same preamp and I can't play a live set without it. One of the best preamp for clean tones, makes my bottom.end round and full. I don't engage the distortion since i use a separate pedal for that.

I absolutely love this pedal! I found it slightly used from Guitar Center awhile back for a fraction of the cost of a tech 21 sansamp. It is ridiculous what they want price wise for that pedal. Thanks Dunlop MX80!

Love it! On my latest EP "Continuum", I dialed it as a distortion unit and blended it with my regular amp. But even the pedal by itself is killer!

Sounds awesome! I really liked the sound of that "Eden" emulation. Do you have a video (or can you explain a bit more) how you set up that?

Thanks, but it’s not an emulation, the pedal is plugged in a real Eden E300 amp for the first part.

Ohhh now I understand what you mean! My signal chain consists of both a real Eden amp head AND an Eden cabinet simulation. This is the IR: www.two-notes.com/en/product/heaven-bot/ To use this you need the Two Notes plugin called "Wall of Sound" which gives you access to hundreds of guitar and bass cabinet IR's (simulations). I don't have a video yet on how I record everything but it's in my plans for early 2023. Cheers!

I always run the Distortion channel because it adds a nice layer of body, I don't run it with a lot of on board Distortion because it's not that great. I use a Berhinger Vintage Tube Overdrive T0800 for grit

The distortion of the M80 has a lot of gain and it does need to be controlled, and for that I use the Blend knob to add a bit of grit to the original tone.

Can I use it as a head for a cabinet or only as a preamp for a head? I need this kind of sound for live setup but i don't always want to bring my big Ampeg amp.

There is no speaker out so it’s a preamp only.

This pedal catches my attention, but I'm not quite convinced by the distortion, I think it removes low frequencies and makes a distortion a bit weak... I'll go better for a Sansamp Bass Driver DI V2

Completely understandable. Both have a Blend control which is very useful to keep the low end of the dry signal, but having used a SansAmp myself years ago, I find the MXR has a lot more gain in the distortion circuit so I can fine tune the blend of both dry and wet signals better. Nonetheless, the SansAmp is great and has been used by countless bassists for many good reasons!

If you use a 9v battery on this pedal and the battery runs out, will it die? Or will it switch to bypass and still be able to play?

Never tested that. Try all the outputs without any power source and see if one still works.

@@DonnieDistortion haha...This is so funny, i asked this question because i don’t have one. So i thought i should ask people who has one. You know people ask questions like this before they go buy one. Haha this so funny! If i have this pedal, i don't think i would ask this question. I guess i have to get one to find out haha

    Is this have a cabsim?

It doesn't have an actual "cab sim", but the Color button changes the tone a bit to sound more like a mic'ed cab.
