Never tire of hearing these stories. So much talent in and out of the booth. One thing is so much layering and additions makes playing live almost impossible…..but they definitely do the songs justice live.

“All killer, no filler”. Great phrase I’d never heard. I know that was the result for Appetite by GnR; I’m a late comer to Hysteria and it was “on the other side of the fence” in my teens but oh my gosh- I love it now.

Why doesn't anyone ever mention the immense amount of Steve Clark's work on Hysteria?

Is there any website where I could find out about Steve's involvement in the writing process?

In 1984, Mutt Lange was already contracted to Billy Ocean and the Cars 🚗. Thus, Lange had no time to work with Def Leppard. Bob Rock would have been a good 👍 substitute. But, he was working on his band Payola$. In 1991, Lange was in contract with Bryan Adams, late Eddie Money and Huey Lewis. Lange would work with Def Leppard after he was finished with Adams in 1992. Sample of Animal --> Irresistible. Written by Mutt Lange and The Corrs. Chorus 2 and 3 of Pour Some Sugar on Me --> Everything I Do I Do It for You. Written by Bryan Adams, Mutt Lange and the late Michael Kamen.

19:57 Notice how he uses the past participle instead of the past tense? He should have said, "When he sang it", instead he said, "When he sung it". Grrr that makes me so mad! I always slap my partner when he does that!

Every song on Hysteria is paint by numbers (and all sound alike). Rambling, not-fully-developed verse, no transition, then straight into the hook, which was the only part of the song the writer came up with. Gang vocals. Rinse and repeat. Pure and utter dreck.

This video brings nothing new to the table on Mutt. Just a mashup of other video clips that any self-respective Def Leppard fan has already seen on KZread hundreds of times before. This video was a waste of time.

I think this is an unfair and rather harsh assessment. First of all, it brings nothing new on Mutt because there IS nothing new on Mutt. The man is an absolute recluse and the excerpts here are from the only recorded interview he's ever given. Second, there's something to be said for synthesis - there is value to fusing the key parts from different sources into a single place, making a compilation of key highlights. Hell, I have the Classic Albums DVD and still hadn't heard a few parts of this compilation. Third, while you may be a Lep completist that has seen it all, many people who will listen to this haven't, so it'll have a different value to them. All in all, well done! (though I wish it had that bonus tidbit of Mutt's countermelody to Love Bites that the band hated; I may have to upload that myself...)

@@jed6780 Yeah, I’ve got the same classic albums episode of Hysteria on DVD, too, and that BV you’re talking about on Love Bites was absolutely horrible, and I’m not surprised the band begged him to take it out. Why would you want to listen to that again? Anyway, harsh or not, it’s the truth. I don’t really care how you feel about it.

@@mystical9054 The whole point is that it's a fun Easter egg and great trivia for those who want a peek behind the curtain of the creative process - what could've been, what got discarded, etc. As for the rest, nobody cares that you don't care, but thanks for clarifying. This being the wildlands of KZread, I don't post because I want you to agree, but so the creator (and other visitors) have an opposing viewpoint to the random bitter guy. Drive through, please...

@@jed6780 Blah blah blah. I have a valid opinion about a video, and because it’s a disagreeable opinion that doesn’t jive with yours, that makes me “bitter”? Hahahaha. Typical. Carry on, snowflake. Don’t stay too long. Wouldn’t want ya to get those little feelers of yours hurt.
