This new penalty rule is the dumbest thing ever. If you ever played goal keeper you’re a tiny piece within 7 meters asked to stop a bullet which is already 80% in favor of the kicker and now you handicap them even more by asking them to remain in the line. What’s next? Keeper can’t move a muscle until the ball is kicked?

Watch what Jerzy Dudek did to win a UCL for Liverpool against AC Milan. This rule is necessary otherwise every GK would do what Dudek did when they are facing a penalty. Just make sure one of your feet does not go beyond the goal line and you will just be fine.

What beat us that day was Shelley Kerr's tactical naivety. We were 3-0 up with 16 minutes left and rather than looking to protect that lead by just playing possession football, she continued to push forward. The lassies were out on their feet, defensive subs should've been made, tactical changes should've been made, but Kerr messed up badly. It has to said though, Scotland were harshly treated at this tournament, we'd lost the first 2 games 2-1 against England and then Japan, both games decided by very dodgy penalty awards, then this game came along and yet another dodgy penalty being awarded to Argentina. It's no excuse however, but Kerr should've been embarrassed by her tactics in those closing minutes of this game. To let a 3-0 lead slip is criminal, to allow it to slip in the last 16 minutes is insanity.

Indeed. It is totally possible to sit on a 3 point lead and waste time. We see it in the premier league all the time. We see it every single world cup when teams that totally need to win and are ahead. VAR has been a jke this tournament. A few days ago a penalty was awarded for contact where there was NONE

@@jaimito707 'Parking the bus' was a term used long before Mourinho was a household name. And you don't have to park the bus, you just have to control the game, keep possession, keep the opposition moving and tier them out. Drop deep when they're in possession, denying them space.

I need to watch this whole game. That was such an anxiety filled seven minutes!!

A lot to be unhappy about here. Bad penalty taking, poor refereeing, poor camera work. And how hard for goalkeepers to try to keep a foot on the line. I'd bet that the reason she didn't dive for the second kick was that she was too concerned with this issue. So hard for keepers. I see that they all practice dragging a foot on penalties now, but when the rule was new it was difficult for them. I always thought having a one yard line that they had to stay behind would have been a better solution.

5min extra time??? 🤣 Pen given at 89:59. First pen missed at 1:25. Retaken pen, following foul and bookings doesn't happen until 3:20. Celebration lasts until approx 3:50 then play is started again in middle. Extra time displayed as "4min", which would be the time calculated BEFORE the 90 min mark. The commentator states extra time should continue up to "98th" min. Yet, despite all the stoppage after 90, the ref only gives 1 extra minute of time. Strange.

As a general comment penalty kicks are biased far too much in favour of the penalty taker. I think they could give goalkeepers one step off the line to at least give them the momentum to make a save.

The rule was made because keepers got too forward when taking penalties. This rule makes sense. You have to guess center, left or right, not forward

I think once the whistle blows, the keeper should be able to do whatever the they want. They already only have an 11% chance of saving it, why make it harder?

Because it should never have been a penalty, that's why. Scotland lost their opening 2 matches 2-1, first against England, then Japan, both of those games were decided by dodgy penalties, this game too was decided by a dodgy penalty.

Me too. In the 11th minute of stoppage time which seems a lot but since there was almost no football being played in the last 10 minutes, it had to be 12 minutes.

Didn't see much really. But it looked like the referee lost control of the game. Over refereeing, killed the flow ,and way too long for the penalty to be taken.

"Lost control of the game" usually means players foul excessively, which makes both teams mad, so they continue to foul vindictively no matter how many penalties the ref calls.

I don't know how there can be people who believe in Argentina's football "achievements", most of his "victories" are due to the work and grace of the referee's help, if the penalty missed by argentina had happened to any other team of a lower rank, I assure you that the penalty would have been validated and the var would not have bothered to review the goalkeeper's save, but since it is argentina, the var has to be reviewed and the penalty repeated.
