    In resolve 18 this presets tab on the left side is gone. There's now a 3 dots menu on the top right side of the project settings menu. You'll find all the options to save, import, create presets there.

    Oh man you opened a can of worms for me! So many concepts on how this software works that I don't get. So the timeline resolution isn't what your desired output resolution should be, it is only a "screen" resolution? Sorry, very new user and I'm trying to come up to speed with this. I saved a preset and now can't find it.....sigh. I will say although I'm struggling with this software now, I have seen its power and it is an awesome package! Thanks for the super easy tutorial.

    Chadwick, when setting up locations to save cache & render files, is it advisable to create individual folders for each, every time you create a new project so the render and cache files are isolated to each project? Or is it better to put all render & cache files in two folders for every project so everything is together? I would think isolating them with each project would make it easier to clean later on, but as I'm new to DaVinci Resolve, there is likely a way to clean these items later. What do you suggest? Thanks!

  • @CreativeVideoTips

    Hi Gayle - I have made this mistake at least once a year for a very long time. I wish I could tell you there was a fix, but there really isn't. The only fix is to reshoot it if it's worth it to you. The proximity of the microphone is probably the most important thing regarding the quality of sound you'll get.

    This probably deserves its own tutorial soon, but in general leave your database and cache local. (Movies folder on Mac is fine). The database holds all your projects. Your project/job folder should contain capture media (voice over), render in place elements and footage/assets. Keep those on external drive usually.

    Chad, I am trying to find out how I can save a "Text Box" setting. Every time I place a text box into my video the Drop Shadow setting is on but does not have any off set settings. Meaning their value is "0". I put a lot of text boxes in my videos and I use the drop shadow function almost every time. So, it ends up taking me several extra minutes changing the values of the drop shadow each time I drop in another text box. I want it to just default with the drop shadows on and the off set values of 4 and -4. How do I get Resolve to do this?

    So this was the project management part but I am actually missing where you save your video clips, assets, music amd SFX... AND most important what happens right before export and finishing the project. Do you keep your voice overs in that CAPTURE folder or do you copy Paste & Relink them? Thanks for any advice! Also to free up space on the drive an archive it I would love to hear your opitnion. I actually like (and i hate to say this) premiere pro way to organize everything just in a project folder...

    How do I access presets I don’t have it

    Thank you, Chadwick. I have a question- I also saved my lufs for KZread at -14 in my preset, but I have heard that’s only for KZread. I have to edit 4k iPhone camera footage plus a wav audio track to make a film of an opera wwhich will be played in a cinema (it’s for a youth project, as part of the German government’s support for music in these times). Are there specific project settings I should choose that are different to those for KZread? Thank you in advance if you see this comment!

    Let's see if you can help me or say why this happens to me. I have I think a laptop like yours. I edit in davinci in 4k without problems in resolution 1/2 without problems. The problem comes when I put a noise reduction for example and obviously until rendering the cache it does not run on the timeline, but when the red bar is already in blue and I give the space bar to advance the clip, it will jerk ... I don't understand it but if the render bar is already in blue ..... I don't understand anything why

    Hi AJ, sorry for the delayed response - I've been out for the past week. I would strongly suggest to try using proxies at 1080p if you're having playback issues. Use ProRes Proxy or DNX HR LB if on windows. I think this should resolve those playback issues. You are right though - a blue bar "should" playback fine once its cached - but 4k is tough on ANY computer.

    You probably don’t need proxy files for dnxhd. That’s already a great intraframe editing codec. If you did want something smaller though I’d choose dnxhr LB

    If you were working with a non-standard video ratio (21:9 screen capture / 3440x1440) would you change the timeline resolution?

  • @CreativeVideoTips

    @CreativeVideoTips

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, I would always lower it - keeping the aspect ratio correct though. This is just a lot less pixels for the computer during editing and you lose no quality as long as you bump it back up in project settings before rendering an output.

    Solid question John. In order to export 4k correctly, always set your project settings - timeline settings to 4k before going to export on the deliver page (or quick export). This will make sure you don't down scale and then upscale the downscaled footage.
