Actually because of them not having an undercoat they can be considered hypoallergenic. Some people are allergic to the dander they produce while others are allergic to the protein in their saliva. If the person knows they are allergic to just the dander these cats are perfect for them, that's the case with my dad. We own two :)

I just lost my 16 year old ragdoll, to stomach cancer. She was my best friend. The smartest cat I've ever seen. I miss her so much. She was beautiful and sweet to the very end. The cancer was swift and horrible. I am so sad. Just had to write to say I was blessed with her sweet spirit for 16 years and I will always be grateful to have shared life with her.

We have our first Ragdoll and used to have Persians that passed a few years ago. Totally different cat. The Persians were sweet but very independent. They ARE smart and they do follow you around……unless they’re sleeping. They do need a GENTLE brush every day but they enjoy this and it’s easy to do whilst petting them. They get hot easily so don’t sit on your lap……..unless they’re very cold. Very social and gentle cats that like to be with the whole family.

Are there any personality differences between the male and females? I’m thinking of getting one for my mom. I had to leave my rescue cat at her house due to getting hospitalized out of state. I then ended up staying here, so it’s been months. Now she is bonded, but I want my kitty back. 😢 She’s pretty much an unofficial emotional support cat. She’s extraordinarily emotionally tuned in. She helped me through grief after my friend passed away. She never left my side, even “beating me up” to do something when I was staying too long in bed and wallowing. It’s like she knew. When I was severely sick with flu, she give me space, but came up and sniffed me every couple of hours. Made me feel like I had a guardian lol. Very special cat. My mom never even liked cats before lol.

Hah. Our 2-year-old ragdoll Leon is super energetic and was never happy just sitting at home. We've been going on several-kilometer harness walks with him since he was only a kitten. Even a 5-kilometer jog doesn't tire him out. He most definitely demands A LOT of exercise. Thankfully, we were of the thought of regularly going outside with our kitties but I didn't think it would be this much. Oh well, healthy for us humans as well.

The HCM issue is tough - we adopted a rag doll that was from a shelter. She was partially albino and an amazing kitty! Unfortunately, Flower passed away at age 4 due to the hardening of her heart. The good news was that she was playing with her brother up till the very end and we were right there when it happened. Doctors told us that medication would have only extended by a little time.

My ragdoll cat is about 21 years old. She decided that after my sister brought her home I was her human. She took any opportunity to bolt into my room that she could even if you tried to keep her in a bedroom with the door shut. She knew the door would eventually open and she'd bolt. I'd hear my dad call out for her and I knew that if I turned away from my desk she'd be sitting on my bed right behind me looking right at me, looking for an opportunity to jump in my lap, or trying to climb on my desk and I didn't notice her yet.

Ahhhh, I absolutely love lilacs AND lynxes and the mix of them is just 😍 I would've loved our second ragdoll to have been either a blue or a lilac lynx mitted. Our boy Leon (2 years) is a flame mitted with an hourglass-shaped blaze and 1-year-old Lillia is a brown tortie bicolor. Flame is my favorite color but lilac comes in second. Lynxes are just gorgeous in any color, tho!

Pretty sure our family cat was part ragdoll. She was a black cat with shortish fur, but she had the flexibility of a ragdoll. I could drape her around my neck, and she was content to stay there, indefinitely. My current cat gets pretty antsy, no matter how I hold him.

I love our Ragdoll cat! Our adult Ragdoll loves to play every single day! She fetches cat toys like a dog. She brings it to us and we fling it, & she retrieves it. We have different activity toys that we rotate and set up every day. This is how much she likes to play. She loves playing in boxes too. She has a siamese sister & they are great together. She is very affectionate. She just "flops" in our arms & we tote her around all day long. The only thing we cant have in our home is any type of plant (we can have kitty grass) as she quickly destroys any plants or fresh bouquets of flowers. LOL We love her & her sister very much. If you are looking for an affectionate & fun cat I recommend a ragdoll cat. 😻 ❤️

My 2nd oldest cat is a mix of a savannah and a ragdoll. I have 7 cats of all sorts, japanese bobtail, savannah, bengal, etc. The savannah ragdoll mix is easily my favorite. Ive had her since the day she was born. Even as a kitten she would sleep on my bed when the other kittens were sleeping with their mom. Shes extremely smart and can even open doors (we have childlock handles on the doors now). She has also imprinted on me specifically. Shes not a big fan of other people or other cats, but shes obsessed with me. She follows me around and gets super happy and purrs like crazy when she gets any attention at all. Shes like an Akita in that she bonds strongly to 1 owner over all others. She also LOVES playing hide and seek. Shes 14 years old and still going strong. Shes never had any illnesses or health problems whatsoever. Everyone who meets her assumes shes a young adult. I highly reccomend ragdoll mixes to anyone who wants a healthy long lived cat. You cant get healthier than a ragdoll mix. Ragdolls have virtually no health issues as is, and outcrossing them to another healthy breed makes them even healthier. American Bobtails and Japanese bobtails, and savannahs are fun too. They are ALL basically like dogs. They both have no concept of personal space and seek out affection from everyone who visits. My american bobtails is my most doglike cat, and my japanese bobtail is like a playful little terrier. Just a little ball of energy that one is lol. Hes curious to a fault though lol. He has absolutely no self preservation instincts compared to the rest. I have some very large pythons (burmese, reticulated, african rock, etc etc) that he is always trying to sneak a peak at. id NEVER let him get anywhere near them, Infact they are all very securelt locked up, but i find it crazy that he tries so hard to get to them..... because they would absolutely eat him if given the chance. its almost like he's trying to get eaten. Let me reiterate though, they are ALL locked up with lock and key and have no access to my cats whatsoever. I would never ever ever allow my pets to injure eachother. I absolutely love both cats and reptiles of all sorts.

I have a Ragdoll Siamese mix and his brother is a Siamese, they were both adopted about 7 months ago so I can tell having a rough start changed their personalities a little. But Royal the Rag/siamese is very smart, follows me everywhere, his fur is quiet light and not dense so he doesn’t require much brushing for now (he just turned 1) him and his brother are pretty active they run and play a lot so thats good and bad haha, good for his health bad for house and items. He is silly, he does need almost constant attention when awake (his brother too) even when those little butts are tearing my furniture apart I love them so much.

I’ve had a lot of cats from Siamese to just a no breed cat. But I purchased a rag doll cat from a breeder. Brought the cat home around 3 months old thought first to give it space settle in but this cat was nothing laid back or easy going it would attack you bite you seriously attack door handles didn’t even have to move I did a lot of research before purchasing one and wanted something really laid back for my daughter it would bite scratch attack my daughter just walking across the floor she was terrified of this cat or would attack you as you slept bring blood. I had never seen a cat so mean. I have always been you get a pet it’s your forever pet. I took car to vet they have to wear gloves tried putting it in medication seemed to make it worse. but I would not have anything hurting my daughter so my experience with a rag doll was totally different than this laid back following loving cat. I went to the local shelter and got my little girl a kitten they are best of friends. So please I did my research before I got the cat from a reputable breeder I did take the cat back and she excepted and gave my money back. So just be careful I’m sure there’s some loving breeds but my experience was a total nightmare.

My belief has always been the owner shouldn’t pick the cat. They should let one of the cats pick you. I got a rag doll because she picked me (originally I had my eyes on a Sphinx, but that cat hated me) She was hugging me and I do mean she was wrapping her arms around me. I knew she had to be mine.

@@lucideirune1635 Before my Rags I had two rescues, alley cats. One had lived at a grocery store. I let them choose me. I sat on the floor of the rescue center and waited on one to come to me. Lucky for me and the cat, the one who picked me had been at the rescue longer than any other cat.

Mine plays fetch nj; he came to me one day growling (he was so sweet even hearing the growl shocked me, with a ball in his mouth, so I just took a shot, and he brought it back; so I gave him a treat. So not only do we get to play a game I’ve never had a kitty play, we bond, and more importantly because he was Pavlovian trained to come when I say “fetch,” inshallah we won’t ever have a fire, but if we do I know I can yell “fetch,” and I’ll have my Wills immediately. Pavlovian train your cats with “treat” or whatever you wanna give them but do it so your babies will come too. PLEASE!

I have two RAGDOLLS, ages 10 and 11. They are great cats but one mats terribly. Here in SW Va. it is very hard to find a groomer. Neither goes outside, ever. But both love the screened in porch. It can never be too hot for one of them. They are smart and stubborn but I have had a cat my entire 75 years and will never get another breed. I will replace these two when they go. They are SO much company. Mine hate company and hide under the bed if they hear strangers. Occasionally one will appear for a walk through if a stranger is lucky!

I’ve had domestic cats all my life and have noticed Ragdolls are definitely more dog like than domestics. They respond to being told what to do much more and are much more social and relaxed than most domestic cats.

@@Starandearthcrystals I can back this up too, I have a domestic cat who is lovely and I love very much but she is very shy around other people. I also have two ragdolls, these babies aren't afraid of anybody (well except the 3-year-old next door but they love my 7-year-old cousin) and greet humans at the door with their tails up. You can hold these cats in any way imaginable and they won't hiss or put up a fit. I've only heard them hiss two times in their life and they are affectionate boys who play fetch, walk on a lead, wake me up with snuggles and comfort me when I'm upset. I was crying at 12 am last night and my cat came in straight away to give me snuggles. Both domestic and ragdolls are great pets but ragdolls generally have a different temperament.

Ragdolls do have traits specific to their breed but they are obviously also individuals. Our older 2-year-old isn't a stereotypical ragdoll at all whilst his half-sister who just turned 1 year is the most gentle little cutie.

Ragdolls do not have instincts other cats have. They should NOT be outdoors unless on a leash. Any tree they climb should be indoors. My two do love to be up high on their perches. Before getting a Ragdoll you should research them so you will be aware of their instincts.
