Namewee gets his idea after he has been invited to work on a China tv show and sees stars from different countries all gathering in the China market. It fits the current trend of stars, particularly the Chinese(be it from Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and wherever else), who all want to get into the booming entertainment industry of China. But he keeps it real in the video so it's from a POV of a normal person who is searching for a better opportunity in Beijing.

The most beautiful thing of this song is not its rhythm or beats or the voice of Leehom, its the lyrics. Its about people leaving their home going north to Beijing ( or from villages to cities) to search for their dreams and opportunities. After all the difficulties and survival they had faced, they missed their home, their families. Namewee is a Malaysian born Chinese ( so do I ), its very very very hard for chinese here to get major recognitions in local entertainment industry. Usually famous Malaysia or Singapore born Chinese artists, actors, musicians have to start their career by going North to HK or Taiwan or China. Thats why Namewee wrote this song.

I had the opposite experience - this was the first song by Namewee I had ever heard. I was surprised to find out everything else he writes is so funny after this.

He's a Malaysian who traveled to Taiwan to seek success but end up returning with nothing. If you look at this perspective, this song is about the harsh and enduring times he went through. Probably in some sense he knew, his lack of fame is the essence why success is eluding him. With the strong vocal of Wong Lee Hom, NameWee's creativity and talent is amplified.

It's a song about a drifter who probably died in the end, therefore so much sadness in the song.

The Rap of China recently had a contestant and guest/helping singer cover this song and that cover made this song explode! The rap in that one is completely diff lyrics (that are just as poignant) since the rapper wrote them separately without knowing the songs that the guest Singers were prepping (so basically they had to decide on the day itself which singer and which song to pair with) Biggest coincidence is prob that the guest singer was also a Malaysian who recently debuted as part of an idol group after having left his home country for the ‘north’ (China) to pursue his dreams... Fun Fact: It was actually about Namewee's own personal troubled life during his university days. His shot to fame or defame (Depends on what angle you look at. Defame if you're an idiotic, extremist Malaysian Muslim) happened when he remixed the Malaysian national anthem Negaraku as his own new creation called "Negerakuku" which caused a lot of issues for himself and even his parents while he was studying in Taiwan (It's still north of Malaysia but not Beijing as stated in the song) where he had to stay in a small apartment with unfamiliar surroundings and faces while living with a fear that he will be arrested when he returns home.

If you don't know about G.E.M., you should definitely check out her works (her channel is GEMblog)! She is a GREAT singer and composes, writes lyrics for most of her own songs! Her stage presence is also great! It is simply amazing!
