In my country it would be "stranger in the west" Many people drift to the west to chase their dream, and failed in the process. Really miss their family and want to go back to their hometown, but filling embarrass to meet them. So they have to stay in the west, do what ever they can to survive, far beyond their expectations. Just living meaningless life. I don't know if westerners, or people from Europe or USA can related to it.. But from south to east asia, culturally speaking, family is everything.. when you make a step to be different from your family, you have to prove to them you do it for them (i.e being successful in big city in this song) And if the situation proves otherwise., we just stay in our way we choose, and fed with guilt and remorse.
