I think of Larnell like the Tom Morello of drummers. He just makes sounds with the drumset that you never realized were possible, let alone in a musical context. True master of his craft.

Oh man Jeff!! I've been eagerly waiting for this one! I had no idea Larnell existed until I saw Lingus for the first time about a year and a half ago and like you he quickly became my favorite drummer. The thing I love about him is how he always plays with the idea of supporting the entire band's efforts. Never overshadowing anyone and is the perfect accompaniment for any group. I've been binging these Zildjian Live sessions lately and let me tell you there are some real gems... Kaz Rodriguez, Gergo Borlai (aka "The Hungarian Nightmare) LOL Marcus Gilmore.... The list is endless. Would love to see your first time reactions to any of these! Keep up the great work man!

The one we've all been waiting for! :D Awesome reaction, once again, man. 'Love your notes on the subtler details like the keyboard patch as well. If you wanna see another example of a drummer making "creative" use of his kit, Benny Greb would be another one. His VFJams episode (Vic Firth's equivalent of Zildjian Live) has him hitting the shell of his floor tom as percussion. :D That one has a sick solo from Mark Lettieri as well, so it might be one for you to check out.

There is the l´Art pour l´Art shredders and there is the musicians taking their listeners with them by offering an-easy-to-enter layer and then taking them deeper into their realm. It seems that we think deeper notes are lower and higher notes are high, so maybe intuitively it's much easier. Kind of a nerdy question, but it makes me wonder.
