Yes Grease is definitely my favorite musical. I saw this the week it came out in 1978 in the theatre! Everybody in the theatre were singing along with Hopelessly Devoted To You because it was released before the movie premiere date so we all knew it. I'm glad you liked it!

Olivia was a strong singer, a kind and angelic presence. Never heard a bad thing about her. Such a sad loss.

Grease was Olivia's 2nd movie and John's 3rd movie. John's 2nd movie is Saturday Night Fever 1977.

This is one of my moms favorite films. When I was young we used to do the “You’re The One I Want” dance at the end. Olivia Newton John was her hero. Hence my name! Rip to a beautiful talent and amazing soul ❤️

Those actors stayed friends for life.

I loved Rizzo. I know a lot of people don't like her but i think she must have had a very hard home life to make her like that. and while I didn't turn out the same way, I can relate to the hard home life that can shape people in harsh ways.

I think, that I remember reading, that Stockard Channing was almost not cast in the movie, because she was already in her 30's, but she'd done such a great job playing Rizzo in the play, that they couldn't find anyone who could play the part nearly as well, so she got the part in the movie. Thank goodness, because she was great in the movie, and it's not like the other actors look like teenagers anyway. I liked the character, Rizzo, very much, but I'm a guy. It seems like, maybe it's easier for a girl to dislike a girl character? I liked, how they handled Rizzo's possible unwed pregnancy. It added drama without some heavy handed message about the issue, like movies sometimes do. Of course, nowadays, 30's is considered quite young, but because of the prevalence of smoking in the past, people in their 30's often looked much older, than they were, since smoking restricts blood capillaries in the skin, causing it to age quicker. Because they were used to this even in the 70's, Hollywood was biased against actresses in their 30's for single girl or teen roles. People sometimes wonder, why don't they use real teenagers then? It's because laws limit the amount of hours in a day, that a minor can act, so it makes it hard to get a movie done on time and under budget, if there are very many scenes involving the same minor actors. The result is in a teenager centric movie, the typical age range with some exceptions was 18-25. Much of this may be obvious or well known, but I'm just thinking out loud.

One of the musicals I grew up watching. My favorite song is Hand Jive. My 9 yo niece got back from camp a few weeks ago. She told me they learned a song with a hand beat. Her friends asked her how she caught on to it so fast. She told them, “Because it’s the hand jive off Grease.” I was so proud 🥹 😂

The football player flirting with Sandy at the pep rally is actor Lorenzo Lamas, son of Argentinian Hollywood actor Fernando Lamas and Hollywood actress Arlene Dahl. Lorenzo had his own TV show in the 90's "Renegade" and evening soap drama "Falcon Crest" in the 80's.

Grease is my favorite musical. I saw it at age 10 and then bought every record of Olivia. I became a singer and credit Olivia as a role model for how to sing. I saw this musical 16 times many times at the 101 Drive-in. Grease was the word in 1977.

Back before streaming they had regular scheduled TV broadcasts (this was in real time, I was born in '73), and two movies that they showed with some regularity in my area (the U.S Midwest) to coincide with a seasonal approach was to show Grease in the late summer (for the kids' return to public school) and The Wizard of Oz (generally in the fall to, I assume, line up with Halloween). So I saw Grease several times this way, always with a root beer float. I personally tend to not like musicals but I believe my early association with this film allowed me to LOVE this particular musical. I can also handle Into the Woods, but that's pretty much it. I didn't realize unfortunately until after she died (and I went back through her catalog) that I knew almost all her songs, and they were all popular hits. What an influence and what a force. God rest you and RIP for all time until time starts anew. Ayy, thanks for watching this, in her memory, that's nice of you to do.

Saw Grease at the 78 Drive-In in Tupelo, Mississippi, with my mom and three sisters in 1978. They blurred out the picture because it was a Coca-Cola ad and Pepsi was the one sponsoring the movie.

I am Mexican and this movie is ICONIC for me and my family!

Although it wasn’t a popular movie, Olivia Newton-John’s follow up movie “Xanadu” from 1980 is also a cute film. It’s actually my favorite movie of all time!

At the end when they're driving up in the clouds like Olivia was going to heaven had me emotional RIP Olivia the legend

During the dance scene and the camera and the woman says, "That's Sandy and Danny" that is John Travolta's older sister Ellen Travolta.

Ok first let me just say that you have gorgeous eyes and those little dimples also work well for you, you should feel very confident in yourself and how you look so take it from this ole lady don’t waste your youth- now with that being said would highly recommend that you look up and watch and listen Olivia’s 1982 live concert I believe it took place in either Austin or Houston Texas- but that will give you an idea of her great vocal abilities plus the amount of actual musical hits that she had- she was truly a very blessed and rare talent and I surely hope that you get to see that for yourself- at least folks that could never see her in person have this to watch and to hear-enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!

I do think you should add musicals to your movie lineup. The musicals of the 50s during Hollywood's Golden Age are part of what made American cinema great. The musicals were of the 70s and 80s took the genre to new heights. I think you should start with "Little Shop of Horrors" (1986), "Hair" (1979), "Saturday Night Fever" (1977), "Hairspray" (1988), and "Chicago (2002).

Seen in 1978 as a 16 year old and love it till this day.

You should have seen this when they first put it on TV in about 1980. They struggled to clean it up for TV (they used to do that). They absolutely destroyed Greased Lightning trying to cut the bad words out.

Prior to the film's release, the producer Allan Carr had made a product-placement deal with Coca-Cola's main competitor Pepsi (for example, a Pepsi logo can be seen in the animated opening sequence). The film's set decorator, unaware of the deal, had placed Coca-Cola products and signage in the scene. When Carr saw the footage, he ordered director Randal Kleiser to either reshoot the scene with Pepsi products, or remove the Coca-Cola logos from the scene. As reshoots were deemed too expensive and time-consuming, optical mattes were used to cover up or blur out the Coca-Cola references. The 'blurring' covered up trademarked menu signage and a large wall poster, but a red cooler with the logo could not be sufficiently altered, so was left unchanged. According to Kleiser, "We just had to hope that Pepsi wouldn't complain. They didn't.

I was 4 years old. 1979. My Uncle Dennis got a pirate Betamax copy. My mum then bought me the cassette soundtrack that I listened to over and over again. Great reaction. You really made me smile. 👍😊

I was seven when this came out, so a lot of the sex jokes flew over my head, but I've seen it a million times after that. It took me until I saw it in my 20s to realize Danny and Rizzo had history. That explained the whole mean girls attitude.

1. I worked at a three theatre movie group and this is one of which is a drive-in. Yes it was like that. Sometimes moving from car to car. 2. Also, Up in Smoke, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Saturday Night Fever. 3. This was a great movie to take your honey to. I was in High School. 4. These songs kill for karaoke (especially Summer Lovin') 5. Marty/Diana Manoff is my honey😍😋 6. If you don't dig the all star cast it's on you🙄 7. RIP ONJ 😭😇

There are some very famous Movie and TV stars in cameos. Singer Frankie Avalon (who is older than he looks) did the Beauty School Dropout number. The Coach was Comedian Sid Caesar, The Waitress was 1940's Movie star Joan Blondell, The Principal was Comedian Eve Arden and the Band performing at the TV taping was Sha-Na-Na (who was the next to closing act at Woodstock 1969).

oh my, I'm sorry for your loss. Olivia was such a beautiful woman, inside and out. I was obsessed with this film when it first came out and still love it to this day. The music is incredible. Such great memories of much better times.

I was 8 when I saw this in the theater. Mimicked the dance knee slide of born to hand jive in my livingroom and ended up with a 4 inch splinter in my knee. Love this musical.😊

In 1950s America, the greasers were not the cool kids. They were from the wrong side of the tracks and were dismissed as bad news juvenile delinquents. But in this movie, they are the protagonists.

It was sort of like Boomers today, looking back and imagining, that they were hippies, the "edgy teens" in the 1960's, when they were really conventional mainstream people in high school. The people who were teens in the '50's looked back and fancied themselves to be greasers, the "edgy teens" of that era, when most of them were actually squares!

Grease was filmed in the summer of 1977 and released in June of 1978. Obviously the actors were much older than the parts that they played. Stockard Channing (Rizzo) was the oldest at 33. Travolta was 23, Olivia Newton-John turned 29 during filming. Lorenzo Lamas (the jock that Sandy goes with for a short while) at 19 and Eddie Deezen (Eugene) at 20 were the ones closest to high school age, LOL.

Seems like this movie/soundtrack always makes a comeback every few hrs. We did the musical at mu high school twice I think and the song were always fun to sing and dance to on stage. Really enjoyed this reaction.

I remember thinking this is what teenagers looked like when I watched this as a kid. There was only one teenager in the cast (Marty of the pink ladies who was 19). Did you know Olivia Newton John had to be sewn into the black pants in the last scene after the zipper broke? She said she had to limit how much water she had all day so she didnt have to use the bathroom. This film is why I never liked High School Musical - the plot is identical but this one has John Travolta and Olivia Newton John and all the better songs. RIP Olivia Newton John

Saw it at age 8 when it was first released. I ave seen it undreds od times and have copies of i on VHS and DVD. Summer Nights is probably my favorite song. Kenickie is my favorite T-bird and Frenchie my favorite Pink Lady

I saw this movie when it first came out in theaters. Back then, there were no multiplexes, so you had to wait in line to get into each showing, and lines were around the block for this movie. It was a huge hit and the album soundtrack sold 30 million copies.

I love your editing. Included all the best parts! They were racing for “pinks.” Pink slips. Danny won the car! Great reaction! The best yet!

What a fun reaction. So sorry to hear about your mom. My wife beat it 11 years ago. Travolta I believe was training in dance from a young age, not singing though. He still did pretty good though, rather him sing than dubbed, makes for a better movie. Keep it up kid, enjoying your reactions...

The thing about "Grease" is that, when it came out, it was a borderline parody of 50´s films-shows of that ilk. As it has gotten older itself, people just think the film itself is dated. As for Rizzo "getting her kicks while she was young", most of the actors were way too old to play highschoolers, but she was 34!

@@FlixTalk It's a great film, and it's so sad to watch now. Jeff Conaway (Kenickie) actually sustained an injury during filming which led to a lifelong addiction to painkillers, which then escalated. After multiple attempts at sobriety (many on reality shows), he sadly died at the age of 60.

The original Broadway soundtrack reflected a show that was a bit darker than the PG-rated movie. Subsequent revivals of the live show follow the movie instead of the Broadway show. Bummer note: lead vocals on the Greased Lightning number were originally performed by the character Kenickie on Broadway but Travolta was a bigger star at the time. I always wished Jeff Conaway had done the lead vocals.

This was so much fun to watch. I was about 10 years old when I fell in love with this movie and I have seen it so many times over the years. Watching u experience it for the first time was awesome. Some say it hasn´t aged well but I actually think it has. They were well ahead of their time doing this and lots of the "not PK" things are done as a parody, I still love it to this day.

I have loved this movie for years, and Olivia Newton John is I believe one of the two best female voices ever (other Whitney Houston). I remember my mother took me and my cousin to see this, we were 9 years old. During the scene at the gym dance, when the guy mooned the tv audience my mom dove over both of us so we couldn’t see!!! Will never forget that ! 🤣🤣. RIP sweet Olivia, thank you for leaving us with music that is absolutely timeless.

River whenever I took the Metrolink train from Downtown L.A. to Fontana to visit relatives. The opening scene at the beach is at Leo Carillo State Beach in Malibu. They actually used 3 high schools for Rydell High: Venice High School, Huntington Park High School for the big dance scene and John Marshall High School in Silver Lake for the final carnival scene. Oh I first saw this film on when they re-released it in theaters back in 1997 and my favorite song is Hopelessly Devoted to You sung of course by Olivia Newton John. RIP.

There was no such thing as PG13 when this movie came out. They changed the rating system I believe when the movie Gremlins came out around 1984. Many parents took their little kids to see Gremlins and it turned out to be way to scary for little kids, so they came up with another rating which was PG13. If Grease came out later, it would have gotten a PG13 rating. I saw this movie when I was ten years old and a lot of this dirty stuff went right over my head.

Steven Spielberg pushed for the PG-13 rating after he made "Temple of Doom". The first PG-13 movie released was "Red Dawn".

@@bjgandalf69 Interesting. I didn't know what the first PG13 movie was. Gremlins was a film that was rated PG that parents brought their little kids to and it ended up giving little kids nightmares. The Gremlin creatures start off as these adorable cute little furry things and then turn into these scary looking monsters and little kids were traumatized by it. Jaws probably should have been rated PG13 too. . . but most parents knew what the movie was about so they probably wouldn't take their kid to see it anyway . . . but Gremlins was a bit misleading. Took parents by surprise. My parents took me to see some scary movies when I was little (in the early 70s, disaster movies were in and I saw people dying and being killed, and I was only 4 years old, no wonder I'm a mess, LOL!).

Hope you didn't Vomit in the popcorn bin because the remaster *(aka rise of the pink ladies)* is worse than I would mention about it show several senes with a butt involved in it doesn't mean that you watch something that is TV 14 *(as in another halfa*sed original gone)* once again nope I would vomit right now

A lot of great songs here were written by the Bee Gees, who grew up in oz like olivia did, all born in the UK. Olivia thought she was too old for the role, so John Travolta visited her in person, to convince her. They were racing for pinks, ownership papers.

first time i saw this film. i was in basic training for the Air Force, Lackland AFB TX , Summer of 78 . we got our first pass where we were allowed to walk around on base without the TI for the afternoon. My buddy and i saw this in the base theater. BTW i am still in contact with my buddy. This movie is special to me due to this.

I was 11 when this movie came out. I loved it right away as I have always been a fan of old movies and movies set in early eras Grease is set in the late 50's. I was already an Olivia Newton John fan from her music and a John Travolta fan from his TV show Welcome Back Kotter. Loved the soundtrack. My favorite song in the movie is "There are Worse Things I Can Do" that Rizzo sings.

A little tid bit about Cha Cha when they race thunder road. She was in SEVERE pain during that scene. She was rushed to the hospital right after that scene because her appendix had burst. Also, that bridge has been demolished (due to disrepair and structure damage) and a new one opened last month.

I got chills, they’re multiplying. Hey, he’s a great singer. You did a great reaction…the best. Thanks!

Favorite song was more of a background song played during dialog at the dance : Those Magic Changes Ultimately a very memorable sing-a-long....It grew on me over the years...

I was 4 when it came out. Kinicki is so cute and John Travolta.

There's actually a theory that Sandy and possibly Danny died during the summer, and that it's all a fantasy, hence the drive-off to the sky at the end.

@@FlixTalk I got the same thing, but it's possible. Sandra Dee, by the way, is not Sandy, but rather an actress of the time who was famous for playing innocent girls.

The high school is called "Rydell High School" Rydell is the name of a teen singing idol of the 50's and 60's Bobby Rydell, who starred on "American Bandstand Stand" , a live TV dance show in Philadelphia. The "Beauty School Dropout" was performed by another teen idol of the same era, Frankie Avalon. Both Rydell and Avalon were regular performers on American Bandstand. Avalon starred in teen films with former Mouseketeer Annette Funicello.

Grease having older actors playing teens goes back to the original production and continues today.

Do MORE musicals! The Sound of Music,Mary Poppins,Victor/Victoria,The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Saturday Night Fever, and another ONJ film Xanadu. Favorite song: The Worst Thing I Could Do by Stockard Channing(Rizzo).

I first saw this as a very young child maybe 10,I remember me and my childhood friend would choose which character we would sing and dance as and stuff. Decided to watch peoples reactions to the movie bc I haven’t watched it in years

I was born in 1969. My parents used to take us to the drive-in movie theater almost every weekend. I was 9 when I first saw this movie at the drive-in, just like in the movie. LOL! My favorite song is actually there are worse things I could do by Rizzo. For some reason I really liked her. A funny thing in the late seventies we got cable for the very first time and we had HBO which showed Grease a lot. I remember they actually promoted that they were playing Grease for the very last time ever on HBO and I remember having an argument with my father who wanted to watch the Dallas cowboys play football and I was crying and saying this was the last time I was ever going to see Grease. Then we moved to Germany when I was 12, my father was in the military and we got our first beta Max which was the VCR before VHS. And of course we got grease and now I have it on DVD. Lol! Little did I know back then the technology we would have now.

We didn't get to see it in theaters because my mom was in hospital for an extended period of time. When it was released on vhs, we went to the movie rental place, rented the movie and the vcr and watched ot at home in 1980.

Saw this movie at the local drive-in theater with my stepfather, mom and sister's then we went to eat at Sonic. As a kid this was tops 👌 with me . Burger shake and fries oh yeah .

I saw it in London in the movie theater Fall 1978. I had just completed beauty school in California. My favorite scene was “Beauty School Dropout.” I saw Grease with a guy friend English hairdresser. They don’t have all the silly requirements for cosmetology that the USA has. They apprentice and can start doing clients right away.

Re the blurred pictures at the diner: the movie was sponsored by Pepsi, but they had Coke ads up (or maybe it was the other way around), so they blurred out the rival company's ads.

First time watching this movie (After watching Saturday night Fever), at the movie theater already crashed on John Travolta as Vinny Barbarino in welcome back Kotter a TV comedy series, and having a an album of Olivia Newton-John big fans great movies great Era I was 12 years old…. and yes I was pretty young to watch these types of movies. Music Lover however. Jeff Conway who played Kaneki at that time was Olivia Newton-John‘s brother-in-law he was married to Olivia‘s sister.❤🎶 Frankie Avalon was the guardian angel for beauty school dropout he was an actor in his own right in the early 60s and did movies with Annette Funicello one of the original Mouseketeers from the 50s. 70s movies we’re awesome, check out AMERICAN GRAFFITI❤

If you haven't see The Wizard of Oz 1939.. It is a Fantastic movie considering the times...technicolor was invented..I remember seeing colors, so exciting..

This is such a classic. Any re-do of this musical has been a tragedy. The sequel wasn't bad though. I could watch this movie a million times and never tire of it. Eddie Dezen (Eugene) lives in my home town. By the way, it gave me alot of joy to see how you genuinely enjoyed watching a "musical." Next...."Hamilton."

I'm sad I just seen this come up but I saw grease in movie theater when it came out in 78 I was a junior in high school I went with my older sister the theater was 3 blocks from my home in manhattan great movie soundtrack I bought it of course the vinyl no cds back then anyway thanks for the memories

I remember seeing this in the theater in 1978.

I loved this one! I actually enjoyed Part 2 as well, lots didnt but its a lot of fun!

The Hollywood Bowl used to do a Sing A Long Grease.

I LOVED your reaction to watching GREASE!! YOURS was the BEST of ALL the reactions I have seen to Grease! Grease is one of my TOP 5 FAVORITE MOVIE MUSICALS, I NEVER tire of watching it. Yes, it takes place in the late '50s, when I was a kid (I turned 12 in 1959) I HOPE you will react to MORE MOVIE MUSICALS, especially "HAIR SPRAY" where JOHN TRAVOLTA plays "EDNA TURNBLATT" who is the mother of the main character "TRACY TURNBLATT" The role of Edna Turnblatt was ALWAYS played by a man in drag. Travolta is FABULOUS in that role (wearing a "fat suit" and he dances in that role as well.ll IF you do decide to react to "HAIR SPRAY" make SURE it is the one with JOHN TRAVOLTA which came out in 2007, THAT is the BEST version of "Hair Spray" (not the 1988 version, it's different with different music)
