*WHAT AN ADVENTURE!* The Mummy (1999) FIRST TIME WATCHING MOVIE REACTION - Brendan Fraser

Ойын-сауық

The Mummy is a rousing, suspenseful and horrifying epic about an expedition of treasure-seeking explorers in the Sahara Desert in 1925. Stumbling upon an ancient tomb, the hunters unwittingly set loose a 3,000-year-old legacy of terror, which is embodied in the vengeful reincarnation of an Egyptian priest who had been sentenced to an eternity as one of the living dead.

The back story for Winston (it was in the movie but easy to miss) is that he is the last person of the Royal Air Force to be still stationed in Egypt. All of his friends died in battle during WWI. Winston wished he had died in battle with his friends (the old warrior belief that the only death worth having for a warrior is to die in battle). That's why Winston was so quick to agree when Rick told him he probably wouldn't survive.

One of the really subtle things about this movie is that almost all the men are WWI veterans, including Jonathan. You can see it in their various reactions to impending danger, and their reaction perspective on what’s valuable. Many of them went the direction of “gather as much wealth as I can and live it up with the time I have left” (Beni and the Americans), some have survivors guilt and are trying to find a way to die honorably to join their friends who died in the war (Jonathan and Winston), and some have decided that they should do what they can for themselves but should protect people who can’t protect themselves along the way (O’Connell).

"Death is only the beginning." Fun Fact: The library disaster was done in one take. It would have taken an entire day to re-shoot if a mistake had been made. That's Hot Fact: With the exception of a loin cloth, a few pieces of jewelry, and panties, Patricia Velasquez's costume consists entirely of body paint, which took four hours to apply. The white nightgown Rachel Weisz wore when the ship was attacked became transparent when it got wet and had to be digitally painted white during post production so the film could keep its PG-13 rating. The Medjai were originally supposed to be tattooed from head to toe, but Stephen Sommers vetoed it because he thought Oded Fehr was "too good-looking" to be covered up. Historical Fact: Imhotep is a real historic figure, but he wasn't the High Priest of Pharaoh Seti I; he was the architect who developed the first pyramids in ancient Egypt, most notably the Pyramid of Pharaoh Djoser at Saqqara around 2600 BC. His ability was such that he was later said to have descended from the gods. His name means "one who comes in peace", and as far as anyone knows, he was not a despised villain as portrayed in the movie, but much more likely revered as the architect and physician he was. Seti I was a real pharaoh, but he ruled around 1300 BC, almost 1300 years after Imhotep had died. Anuk-sun-amun was an Egyptian princess who was half-sister (and wife) to Pharaoh Tutankhamun. They lived in the mid-1300s BCE, decades before Seti I's rule. When King Tutankhamen's tomb was found on November 4, 1922, the person in charge was Howard Carter, who was employed and funded by George Herbert, 5th Earl of Carnarvon. Carnarvon's daughter, Lady Evelyn Herbert accompanied Carter to Egypt to view the discovery. Rachel Weisz's character is named Evelyn Carnahan. Originally, her character was meant to be Evelyn Carnarvon. She and her brother were to be the children of the "cursed" Lord Carnarvon. The only evidence of this left in the film is in the line where Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) tells O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) that her father was a "very, very famous explorer" and novelization goes into a bit more detail on her back story.

King tuts tomb was opened right around the time this movie is set I always assumed they set it in that time cause of that, the original mummy franchise with Boris karloff is set in the current time it was filmed in the 30s-40s

Great movie. the mummy 2 is also a good movie but the third one is horrible. The modern remake with Tom Cruise is very different but it is decent and more horror. You should also see Blast from the Past or School Ties with Brandon Fraser or more great adventure movies like The National Treasure movies with Nick Cage or Prince of Persia 2010. Fyi Brandon Fraser was almost killed for real in the hanging scene just like Micheal J Fox in Back To The Future 3 hanging scene

Funny story, you mentioned reinventing the wheel, my dad invented the weed wacker, he took a sinker on a fishing line and started swinging it around taking out weeds, he thought this was cool thing he invented, but someone already had started making weed wackers so he didn't get any money from inviting it.

…it’s pronounced “Fray-zer”, tho. There’s no “I” in Fraser - like Frasier? There’s no i in Brendan’s last name. He’s actually said numerous times about how much it bothers him that everyone constantly pronounced his name wrong. Lol I’m not correcting u for ME m’friend, only for Brendan!😉 He’s such a lovely person. He deserves to have it pronounced the way it actually is, ya know?🖖
