Music Theory Lesson Tempo
What is tempo and how do I read tempo markings in music? This music theory lesson gives the music definition of tempo (the speed of the music) and shows how to work out the tempo when reading sheet music.
The following music tempo terms are covered:
adagio - slow tempo
andante - walking pace
moderato - moderate tempo
allegro - fast tempo
presto - very fast tempo
The music theory lesson also discusses the use of beats per minute (bpm) tempo metronome markings, which are increasingly used in contemporary sheet music scores.
Changes in tempo are also discussed, including the following terms:
Rallentando (rall.) - get slower
Ritardando (rit.) - get slower
Accelerando (accel.) - get quicker
a tempo - return to original tempo
Some examples of tempo markings in pieces of music are given.
More examples of tempo markings can be found at www.musictheoryacademy.com/ho...

I know I'm commenting this really late in time, but this helped me in my studies, whoever the name is of the person who made this video, thank you!
I have been a musician all my life even wanted to be a music teacher. Unfortunately all my life tempo has been my nemisis I understand all this information but yet have always struggled with the tempo especially when sight reading and composing. I discovered this problem when I took music theory in high school. Sadly I got so discouraged I gave up being a music teacher but I never gave up on playing. I adapted my playing by learning to play by ear thus having the tempo preset. But this makes it difficult learning new music without the ability to set proper tempo when sight reading. This biological short coming is the block that's prevented me from becoming the professional I wanted to be. This is why some seem to have natural talent and some will always be amateur.

I think they were actually attempting to encourage you back into the desire to become a music teacher, @@kenjett2434, but, if I understand you correctly, your hindrance is "biological," perhaps meaning neurological, i.e. somehow your brain isn't causing you to register the particulars of tempo/pulse in music? What if you were to overcome the challenge by the Almighty's help & then be able to help others having the same problem to overcome? Now wouldn't that be something! But, nonetheless, I say, may His will for you be accomplished.
Thank you Ben for this video. You really helped to clear many things up.
Thank you so much !!! This has been tremendous help just starting my adventure in playing music in my late 60's...

Hi... "Beat is one Part (time Period of one Beat) of a Steady Pulse. so every beat is the same length of time. Pulse is the heart "Beat" of music; and beats are placed in a same interval of time..." Like i studied. now I'm having doubt when i saw this video, Please give some clarity, in beat and Pulse and clear my doubt.
