Music @ The Royal London Hospital - RCM student Sharon Zhou brings violin joy to the hospital foyer

UK-born of Chinese parents, Sharon Zhou is a very talented violinist coming to the end of her third year at The Royal College of Music. Sharon is the recipient of numerous awards and competition successes, and she has wide experience of performance as a soloist, and with orchestras and chamber ensembles both here in the UK and overseas. For the autumn term 2023, Sharon received a Royal Philharmonic Society Scholarship to study at the University of Performing Arts in Vienna, and she has also participated in a number of international masterclasses, notably in Salzburg, (Austria), in Italy, Switzerland and Portugal. She is frequently invited to perform as guest soloist with a range of British orchestras. She is also currently studying as a conductor.
For today's programme, Sharon chose a very suitable and lovely medley of violin solos as follows:
Bach - Violin Sonata No. 2 in A minor - Andante [Recorded here] & Allegro
Massenet - "Méditation" (from Thaïs)
Schubert - Violin Sonata in A major
Wieniawski - Violin Concerto No. 2 (II - 'Romance')
Tchaikovsy - "Mélodie" from 'Souvenir d'un lieu cher'
Bach - Violin Sonata in G minor - Adagio
In spite of the usual background noises, it was a real pleasure to have the foyer filled with the soaring sounds of the violin in such expert hands. Thank you Sharon, and we hope you will be able to come and play for us again in the future.
