I love how, unlike some modern collaborations, this truly feels like both of them are putting their creativity into it, blending really well, and not just doing the strictly necessary. You can hear Jacob’s influence in here, but still come with the entire personality she puts in her music.

Facts, both ate
2:54 when she sings "soot on my tongue" the melody is the same as when Michael Jackson sings "i am the one" in "Billie Jean". Just an interesting connection. also, the guitar intro reminds me of a mix between the guitar in "Living Room" by Andy Shauf and "Rises the Moon" by Liana Flores. I don't know if Lizzy or Jacob have heard of those artists, but I definitely hear that 60s indie inspiration among them all
The way you described how he “Jacobized” the song without ruining it or making it not sound like Lizzy kinda describes Djesse vol. 3. If you haven’t checked it out yet you should. On the album he Jacobizes pop/electronic/R&B music in a way that scales back a bit of his insane frenetic infinite ideas style and makes fun and interesting pop music with a little Jacob twist. He really uses the recording studio as an instrument in that one
Hoping for a follow-up reaction to Lizzy singing live acoustic. She's brilliant, but I think she shines through even more in a natural setting :)

Her NPR Tiny Desk concert came out a month ago and is amazing. Her backing band is the group Tiny Habits who are themselves a fantastic 3 piece vocal group who seem to share some of Lizzy's jazz influenced harmonic sensibility.
Jacob + lizzy = perfection
Thanks for introducing me to Lizzy McAlpine! I heard her name before but was unfamiliar with her work. I REALLY love her approach to song writing both lyrically and musically. Thanks for reacting to her. I love your videos and learn so much as a ever-learning musician. Keep it up!

Love this song, reminds me of John Mayer's Room For Squares work, has that Berklee sound.
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE!! I've been borderline obssessed with this song recently, so I'm psyched that you're reacting to it!
Love that you did this reaction wearing a Jinjer t-shirt, hahahaha. Music is music is music...keep on keepin' on!
Jordan Rakei is a good artist to listen, he's a excellent productor and an awesome singer
THIS ONE > ON REPEAT> ALL DAY> EVERYDAY
please react to more Lizzy! she's had another album come out since this, and it's one of my all-time favorites, every song is amazing.
Oh wow the Jinjer shirt 😮😮😮 I saw them live last year for first time and again this year at Tuska music festival - Finland. Absolutely amazing lead singer
I am so glad you covered this. Just recently discovered Lizzy McAlpine and she's really a gem.
You should also check out the co-writer of this song Jordan Rakei, amazing musician/singer!

Hey man - you react and review such good music. AND, you are a phenomenal musician yourself. It's so nice to see a true musician appreciate, pick apart, and react naturally to so much good stuff!! Keep it up my dude - subscribed.
this song is so so the chorus is amazing and it fits so well in everything in five seconds flat
Great commentary! Thanks

Fantastic song, can’t believer it’s not more popular
oohhh nice shirt david😏🤘
great react vid! Just an fyi, I listened to an interview with Lizzy McAlpine where she talked about not graduating from Berklee as she was not enjoying going to classes and learning music theory - which is kind of ironic because she seems to have a great ear and works with someone like Jacob Collier who has learned so much on his own about theory. I agree about the Billie Eilish influence - and I would add Phoebe Bridgers - which I considers to be a good thing, as the emphasis seems to be on featuring the voice as natural sounding rather than super processed.
If you're getting really into this kind of thing, I'll throw out the recommendation of the song 'When' by Dodie, has quite a similar vibe!
This makes me want you to react to Make Them Suffer - Erase Me (or Contraband feat. Courtney LaPlante, which was one of my favorite tracks to come out last year). STARSET - Manifest (Live), Bringing It Down, Ricochet, Kashmir cover drum playthrough by Adam Gilbert feat. Dublin Taiko, Something Wicked, Icarus, Trials reimagine

My mind went right there too. Love they song.
David do Nightwish reaction againnnnn. Try Storytime this time.
By the end, the song is incredibly reminiscent of “breathin” by Ariana Grande, which is itself a wonderful (if a bit less “intelligent,” comparatively) song as well. Really enjoy this collaboration and both artists a lot - Jacob’s a joy on practically everything he works on. Loved this analysis of it too!
You definitely need to check out Sleep Token for the channel! Blood Sport (from the room below) or The Love You Want in particular. Dude’s vocals are unbelievable

Hey David, Can you please upload video reacting to "We Don't Talk About Bruno" featured in Disney's new Encanto. If you haven't seen it yet than you are in for a treat. It is so musically on point and we'd love to see you react to this masterpiece! Keep up the great work!!
The intro is Darude - Sandstorm
Would have been nice if the key and chord progression were broke down to the viewers. It would have been easier for viewers to understand and appreciate the piece.
