I have seen a comment that the student asked for the no contact to be lifted so if that,s true she does not seem like a victim to me. There was a case in Ohio about 10 years ago where a male teacher was sentenced to 3 years in prison for having a relationship with an 18 year old senior. The crazy part was that she was 18 and the school year was over but since she had not technically graduated they charged him. He’s probably still on the SO registry.

If you watched closely you can see how the first teacher (a male) was dragged under the bus and this news report wasn’t even about him. If you can’t see the double standards herein American that men face, you truly have a cognitive disconnect on reality. Just go back in time and look at all the news reporting on when male teachers commit get caught doing these inappropriate activities vs when females teachers commit and get caught doing these atrocities. I was a high school and college teacher for thirty years. In that time, I've seen some of these "inappropriate relationships". Here's some things they all had in common: 1. The teachers doing this are always very popular with students but have a reputation for being immature. 2. The administration will try to cover it up if they can. The public never hear of the majority of these cases. 3. Men and women offend in roughly equal numbers. 3. Men and women offenders are treated differently. In the last five cases that happened at schools where I taught, three men had sex with students and two women. The three men were all charged criminally; the two women were not. One of the two women had sex with at least eight students and exhibited no remorse. She's married and she and her husband are still together. 4. Teachers who report this bad behavior of their colleagues are punished and ostracized. I know, because I was one of those teachers. I reported a very popular English teacher for having sex with her students after one of the students confided in me. I had to leave the school the following year because I was harassed by staff and administration after she was forced to resign. 5. Most teachers who do this are allowed to quietly resign mid-school year and go on to teach elsewhere. Everyone on staff knows who the offending teachers are, and turn a blind eye. Cops have the Blue Wall of Silence; teachers have the Chalk Wall of Silence.

I was a teacher aide when I was 20 and I taught in middle School and young kids came up to me and we vibe alot and make jokes and all that, but everything has a limit, specially when u are consider a teacher, counselor or any professional, I was very popular because I was the young teacher, but I respected my students like anyone else. Also I learned from this experience>>>> when I was young I was living in Florida in middle school and there was a police officer who taught dare class in the school, and he used to kind of flirt with me I was like 13 and he was like 30, he would stare at me for time to time and even one day I went to his office with my mom and he was just into me, and I knew what was going on, but did not say anything, specially because Im Hispanic and he was white, and I didn't know alot of english, neither I wanted to ruin his career, tho after couples of months I had to move from that school for grades purposes, and I'm glad I did, cuz he was hella weird :/

Yeah it is fucking sick. My grandfather knew a man who went to school with him. Later in life that guy had sex with a woman who lied about her age and bragged she was dating an older man. She was 15 and he was 28. Well her parents found out and got him arrested. The guy went to jail and was a registered sex offender for the rest of his life. He committed suicide because he couldn't get a good job because of his past. I remember him and he was a good man who truly loved that woman but she did him dirty.

This is confusing. From this report, the letter was from a 'female' student. This seemed to confirm it was not what the husband thought. (A relationship with a male) Although there can be sex acts between two females, there couldn't be 'sexual intercourse' as was reported here. Something doesn't add up. Either way, it's SO WRONG.

I was a bit curious what her sentencing was and found this...Ortiz was sentenced to have no contact with the minor, and serve five years probation and nine months of house arrest. For the next 25 years, she will have to report to the state under Megan's Law which I believe is for sex offenders. She had to give up her teaching certificate.

Wrong. Age of Consent is 16 years in Pennsylvania Whether male or female - the subject would not and could not be charged unless some other law was broken . Now, in this case - the unlawful contact is being identified and if pornographic material was exchanged / transmitted electronically etc. involving someone under 18 years of age , that's another story but again in no case would someone over 18 and and their sex partner 16 years or older be charged with a crime for the sexual relations themselves . In this case, it's the authority figure (eg. teacher)-student potential for exploitation that did them in.

Remember, male judges are usually very lenient on female teachers due to the judges' "wild imaginations".

Striving for straight As in high school or having to go through two years of preliminary community college, then spending about five years in university with a super-intensive academic workload, then doing practicums, then taking substitute positions, then taking on the mind-boggling task of handling at least 30 kids all day - and all for the purpose of getting into the students' pants and ruining it all being caught blows my mind. It's about as stupid as wasting all your money on drugs and alcohol simply because you're poor. Cannot argue but you don't see so many females involved in this sort of thing. I think there are two reasons for that . They either have more sense than to get involved but more likely it's the fact they do not have that thing that rules a mans thinking process in these cases L.E a dick

I became a teacher late in life. I was shocked at how teachers communicate with students and parents electronically outside the classroom. I refused to do it, even though some administrators and parents thought it appropriate and necessary. If I needed to talk to a parent, I called from a school phone and I always returned their calls is they left me a message...at school. I told my students that if you have any questions, see me in the classroom during class or after school. That's it. One female teacher I knew thought it was so great that one of her male high students texted her at 11pm about his homework. Are you kidding me? Another problem is that due to low pay, a lot of teachers are young and inexperienced. We had 22 year-old substitutes who had no business being in a classroom with students not that much younger. Unfortunately, older teachers, especially men, are stigmatized, ie creepy old men, and you don't see older male teachers like you did prior to the 90's.

School in the sixties . No communication outside the school . No knowledge of a teacher's private life . If you asked one on a Monday morning what they did at the weekend you would be told "None of your f------g business". Only knew if a female was married if she was Mrs as opposed to Miss or Ms. To be honest that's the way i liked as in secondary school (UK) i hated everyone of the b------s .

Thank you for the kind words. There is a wealth of people out there in their 50's and 60's who could be wonderful teachers with lots of life experience to share. There are multiple reasons there are not. I had to pay $5000 out of my pocket to get fast tracked to teach in high school despite 25+ years of training experience in the government and corporate word...that's $5000 to take a HUGE pay cut. There was no funding available to help pay for this. I got paid less than people half my age who couldn't control their classes and couldn't teach their way out of a paper bag. @@theendoftheworldasweknowit9894

When I was growing up with DOD schools only saw older teachers and they never wanted to communicate with the students ,,was always let me call the parents

Some people cannot handle being around this many minors without acting like them. I remember the worrying behavior I saw at my own high school two teachers were arrested, one unrelated was fired, and some were acting shady but never anything proven. It is sad and disgusting.

Had a Science teacher in 8th grade who was fresh out of college, he was probably 24 or 26. He was pretty handsome, and had ALL the girls' attention. He was VERY uncomfortable with it, and on our 8th grade field trip to Washington DC to visit the Smithsonian, he made SURE that his chaperone group of students was all male, and that the female chaperones got all the girls. He wanted to steer clear of that situation as much as possible. lol. With the guys, he was sure to tell us "Just because I'm closer to your age than most of your other teachers, I'm not here to be your friend; but that doesn't mean we have to be enemies."

I completely agree, John, however, the societal imperative (either side of the pond) is such that the 'professional demeanour' - & I use the term advisedly - be such that they exercise the degree of control & discipline required to keep their relationship with the students at one remove from any personal interaction; I teach Anatomy, Physiology & Biochemistry part time at my local University to Medical students: Never has it crossed my mind to adopt anything other than a professional standard with the forty plus young people I teach - but then I'm from a different generation, whereby such propriety (was) a given; if there is a problem in conveying what I teach, then it is communicated via phone - no 'Zoom' or 'Whatsapp' is employed. That is my benchmark for the correct demeanour - & I do not deviate from same.

When I was in high school in the 70s we had an English teacher who was a big fan of the football team. I mean she was a BIG fan. All the students new it, but nobody told anyone in authority.

All the years my friends and I taught, the last we wanted to see was a student 5 minutes after that bell rang !!

I went to school with a girl that was 2 grades below me. We graduated she went to school and became a teacher. Went right back to our high school to teach and got caught sleeping with a student outside of school. She got like 3 years probation and spent 2 monthes in jail. Just a drop in the bucket compared to males sentence. Men are considered predatory because they have the part that goes into something being seen as more aggressive and because women have more ( passive) genitals men get marked as malicious.

I had an English lanugage teacher in high school (married) who had thick lips, a curvy figure and a massive posterior. I noticed that she would get real friendly with one of the boys in my class and the two would often be seen chatting with each other but I have no evidence they were romantically involved. I was not the only one who thought they were flirting but it made me real uncomfortable that it was literally happening in front of my eyes along with the thirty other students in class. Honestly, the idea of a legal age is so muddy because it all comes down to maturity and education to reduce the chances of getting taken advantage of but the issue is that everyone is different and will not mature mentally or grasp subjects as quickly as others. To say that at a certain someone is legally allowed to be held accountable for themselves is just for the sake of an expectation that in that number of years, they will have enough common sense to do the right thing but we still have people well into their twenties and above doing some crazy stuff in the world. The idea that everything goes as long as it's consensual is threatened by the points mentioned earlier. People are just wild creatures.

I don't care what the law says i 100% consented and i still look back on it with happy memories as i do with the other two older females i had dalliances with in my teens . I just had a talk with a friend about someone in my neighborhood who's 8 months pregnant. She's my age, 36, and the boy is 18 which means that she got pregnant by him when he was just 17. We hear all the time about how dangerous and predatorial men are but we down play it when it's a woman doing it. We also talked about how boys are being taught to look at it as a win to be with an older woman while girls are the victims when it's the other way around. I think both should be equally condemned. It's not okay female or male.

It's predatorial when anyone does it with an age gap that wide. An 18 year old senior who graduated this year is dating my 13 year old brother despite us telling him he isn't allowed. He broke up with her a few months ago and dated a girl his age and the ex's family harassed him into taking her back. One of her older brothers even held my other brother at point blank range over a dispute.

This sort of thing has always gone on. I remember back in the 70's and 80's teachers getting students pregnant and they were still working as teachers. Looking back, I can't believe that none of those teachers were charged or at least fired. Many people might say: back in the old days these types of things didn't happen. Well, they did happen. I spent more years in school than many others, being kicked out at 20 years of age and have never even heard a rumor of anything like that, and the schools I attended weren't known for being good schools. I was personally in plenty of fights and drank and smoked on school property, had a gun pulled on me, etc, and won't pretend school was a paradise at the time. But while things have gone on since the dawn of time, I think changes over the past few decades or so in the education system overall are immense and have been having a dramatic negative impact on society, and I believe things such as the story in the video above are becoming far more common.

To consider a 17 year old teen as a child that could be damaged by a sexual relationship with a young woman is arbitrary. In the countries of the European Union the "age of consent" is between 14 and 16. In any case the legislators have to draw a line, and this is difficult. Independent of age, a teacher having a relationship with a student is always problematic.

Why is it that the legislatures make a decision on what an individual is capable of doing when they know nothing about them . The age of consent should be up to the individual and there parents when that is as they would be the ones who know best .I lost my virginity to an older lady about a month before i reached the age of consent (16 in UK) and i can 100% guarantee i consented . I had dalliances with two other older females in my teens and have nothing but pleasant memories of the experiences . Do not see what the problem is with teacher / student relationships as long as the student is over the age of consent and they keep everything outside the school . Anything inside you sack the teacher and in certain circumstances expel the student. All that's needed is they are not in the same classroom or one has to relocate to another school

It's been 30 years since I was in high school and I swear nothing's changed. Couple of the teachers back then got arrested for exactly the same thing she done. I can remember one of them he had a relationships with four or five different girls. both male and female teachers involved in different cases. I can still remember a lot of the female teachers flirting with the football players and other students. It's kind of weird. I taught college and a few students made inappropriate offers to pass a course but why a teacher goes down that road I don't know. One of my students said they would do anything to pass my class. I told them you can show up to class and do your damn work.

It's actually not the age by itself that makes this illegal. In the state of Pennsylvania the age of consent is 16. It's the fact that the teacher was in a position of authority AND the student under 18.

The law's interpretation ultimately depends on who's holding the gavel. A minor murders three people, they charge them as an adult. A 16 year old has sex with an 18+ year old, they say the 16 year old's brain is not developed enough to understand consent therefore the adult is charged with sexual assault. So they're adults in one case and a child in the other. You wanna see something that's really effed up? Look up the Nick Olivas case. He was 14 when he had sex with a 20 year old woman. She got pregnant and he didn't know that he was a father for 8 years. She went to court and put him on child support which they granted. Of course she was not charged with rape.

Since often time a student that end up in these type of Relationship wish to be viewed as "More Grownup", "Attractive", and "Wanted". No matter if the Minor found their Relationship with their Teacher was the best one they ever had in their life - it still don't make it okay.

Don't think this one did brag but it was a female student and maybe they are not as dumb as the males involved in these shenanigans . I believe she asked for a lenient sentences and the no contact part of it to be lifted so she appears to have supported the teacher and not crumbled and threw her under the bus which is the usual with males. Shootings ,gangs and all this gender crap now a student having the hots for there teacher is the least of a parents worries

This stuff happens everywhere. When I was a freshman I heard rumors of my math teacher (a young attractive woman) having relationships with students for grades lol. I was like whatever, these people are lying trying to look cool. 6 years later I’m at work on lunch break reading about her being arrested for inappropriate relationship with a student…. She’d more than likely been doing stuff like that for at least 6 years before getting caught.

@Sir depends on what you consider a child. In this case the “child” was 17. I don’t consider that a child. Hell in a lot of states the age of legal consent is 16. BUT even if your of legal age it’s still illegal for an educator to be involved with a student.
