The thing they’re chanting is “Kar en tuk”, which is a fictional demonic language Mick Gordon helped devise specifically for the music, translating to, you guessed it, “Rip and tear”.

In norwegian tar en kuk means taking a cock 😂 (i know its not kar en tuk but the words are similar)

They say "Karen took"
I love when she explains the layers of the music theory but gets sidetracked when Mick shakes it up and adds a whole new element to the track
Mick absolutely slams his mixes with heavy sidechaining to the kick and snare. It has pretty fast release, so you don't get the usual "pumping" like in electronica, but in the middle of heavier sounding stuff it makes for really crisp and punchy transients. One of the really cool aspects of his production for Doom are some of his synths timbres got punchy transients themselves, so they kinda double duty giving a percussive feel to lines.

we love a punchy transient on a synth
The chanting really adds to this track because of the setting. Youre in a gladiator pit fighting a giant demon so the chanting in the song gives the illusion that the crowd of the arena is cheering for you as you fight this boss

Yeah people tend to call it the gladiator's theme, but it really is the slayer's. The ghost of everyone that demon killed are literally cheering you on as you kick its ass
@vadernation1233

@@BrotherGSpeople do that? I’ve never seen anyone call it the gladiators theme. It’s gotten to the point where people have been describing all of the boss themes as the slayers when most of the time that’s really not the case.

Worth noting as well, the design of the Gladiator boss is essentially a modern recreation of the design used for the Hell Knight in Doom 2 from 1994. There are of course Hell Knights as enemies in 2016 and Eternal, but these take their design from Doom 3. The Gladiator is the last Hell Knight of his kind in-universe and the Argenta use him in a Gladiator pit against the Slayer without realising he's killed tonnes of his kind before.
Songs like this and mastermind have a really nice “swaying” to them which elicits the strafing of a boss fight

I believe there's one big Mick Gordon mixed song from the Doom Eternal OST that you haven't heard yet; Cultist Base, which is super sick and folks will be real excited to tell you about how it was produced! Also BFG 10K is definitely worth a listen. As I have probably said before, the rest were mostly mixed not by Mick Gordon and so the official OST ones turned out a little unprofessional, but Mick Gordon has praised the work of KZreadrs like Koma (whose mixes have been archived) in mixing them more like he would have. It's always worth adding "Koma mix" when you're searching for the Doom Eternal songs Mick didn't do. This song Gladiator was mixed by Koma also, but you listened to the official version which can have a bit of a strange flow and structure sometimes compared to Koma's mixes. If they aren't explicitly titled "Koma Archive Re-upload" they'll usually have "Gamerip" in the title, since the mixes were made by taking the sound files directly from the game itself rather than the OST, like Super Gore Nest and Blood Swamps that you listened to.
The Doom soundtracks are bomb as hell, though if you wanna see a bit more of Mick's range his work on Killer Instinct Season 1 & 2's soundtracks are crazy. Some pop, some music from different ethnicities... and it all still goes CRAZY hard.
All the wubs!
Predator theme vibe from the beginning 🤘🏻 love the style of the reaction videos, too ✌🏻🇬🇧
This game is FIRE, the ost is FIRE. RIP AND TEAR UNTIL ITS DONE💀💪
LETS GOOOOO! Been wanting to request this one on stream since its my personal favorite Doom Eternal song but I've been busy with work so I'm glad so see someone got to it and it got here! Keep up the good work as always!
"Kar En Tuk" is the chant and yes it means rip and tear. @1:41
Have you listened to the full version of Kar en Tuk yet? I think it got cut from the game but it made me sad cuz the choir goes so hard in that.

More Doom reactions
Yes! More freaking DOOM soundtrack reactions!
I love every song on the Doom Eternal OST a lot, but Gladiator is on another level
1:58 It makes even more sense with context of where you are in the game at this point. Some day I hope you give the game a shot (or several thousand... 😈).
Let's goooo!! Can you also do Metal Gear Rising Revengeance? Rules of Nature? Anything MGR soundtracks are the best
I just love his guitar effects and al the layers he puts blending different sounds to create a nasty slicing guitar.
Would love to see one of Mars Core. I mean im sure you’ll do all of them eventually, but that one’s an underrated track imo
The music goes perfectly with the fight that it's set to
Fun fact:In one of Gordons doom eternal songs,he uses and acutal chainsaw as a background noise☠️
I love the crowd chant, every time I play that level the blood just starts pumping every shots I give to that gladiator.
If you do another one of these you should consider doing At Doom's Gate. But before listening to the modern version have a quick listen to the original one from 1993. It plays on the first level of the game, so everyone who played the game remembers it. Then imagine the nostalgia when the teenagers from that era sat down to play the new game and the same beat kicks in.
you're the best
I recommend listening to "the man they called cayde" its a really good piece from destiny 2
It’s a lawnmower 😂he is amazing
Recommendations for your next reactions: cultists bass, armoured response coalition, and doom hunter,
DOOM ETERNAL dont miss with the music
if you like more electronic tracks like this, you should check out these three doom songs: Vega Core uac report file shto36u3 (hell guards theme) Mars Core the first two don't even have a guitar track and still manage to be extremely heavy and rugged. for sure worth checking out though!
RIP AND TEAR!
As a self proclaimed straight music nerd, her smile along with her explanations on every single detail is so enriching and beautiful, she’s great.
I just heard "Thanks for the Fallen" lol
do cultist base next
Wow! Love it! Let’s stay in touch!
Kar en tuk! ( repeatedly) 😁
8:43 sounds like they are saying “kar en tuk” and “rip and tear” back to back quickly.
The Hunted - Michael Salvatori; This song is from Destiny 2 and I've listened to it 500 times last year and probably more this year. If you can please review this song I would appreciate it very much because I really dont know musical terms and no one else on youtube will react to it. If you see this comment thankyou.
if you like the doom soundtrack, i’d highly suggest the killing floor 2 original soundtrack. my personal favorites are the songs “infected” and “collapsing”

I would really like to see your reaction to the tracks from Atomic Heart! I highly recommend the track called Pt-1x12 as for me the best track in this game and i recommend listening to the extended version
KAR EN TUK!!!
It’s said Mick did this all with a chainsaw alone

You should watch the making of doom soundtrack for both Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal. Found on KZread
Let me tell you what. Its one thing to listen. Its another thing to play with this in the background. You are the boss of the entire game
Not sure if you're still interested in checking out the Doom OSTs, and I know the soundtracks are better known for the heavier tracks like this one, but don't sleep on the ambient tracks like The Betrayer either. Mick got a singer who could chant close to 20Hz in pitch for it and it sounds so fitting for the game. Of course, if you want another heavier track then definitely check out Reclaimed Earth. It's in the second expansion and it goes so hard while being just such a, for a lack of a better word, groovy track. Plays with time signatures a lot, sounds so utterly unique compared to what has been heard before in Doom all while still fitting into the game thematically and having clear moments of intensity and heaviness. It was done by Andrew Hulshult, not Mick Gordon, for clarity.
Is this actually Mick Gordon? Or is this Chad Mossholder Mixes for Eternal?
These tracks were specially recorded for the soundtrack album and are not the actual music heard in the game. Music in games (and films) are mostly "cues" or fragments, whereas a soundtrack album has the complete works. Music heard in movies gets Oscars while soundtrack albums get Grammys. More importantly, movie scores and game scores are intended to be heard while you are watching the movie or game, and that's what I'd like you to do. To see the full impact, you need to see the game, to see how the sound serves the visuals and vice versa.
Have you done a reaction to Guilty Gear Strives OST? Content for days lol.
CHECK OUT Dark souls 3 OST Main Theme

I think the biggest mistake you made here was listening to the Chad Mossholder mix of this track. It sounds godawful
Love the video and btw the demons are chanting Gladiator like (Gla dia tor)
@bigchungus6827

No, I'm pretty sure it's confirmed Kar En Tuk (rip and tear), seeing as the people chanting are the sentinels in the audience most likely, and they greet the Slayer's arrival on Senti with Kar En Tuk.
