Diana had a tough childhood but thanks to her foster mother Irina Ponik ( you can see her on the video ) everything has changed for the better! So she can translate the soul of the songs and we can get all wonderful emotions! Thanks for your reaction! Like!

What is really impressive about this performance is her absolute confidence that shines through - she performs it as someone with decades of experience on the stage would, and she's fourteen! Her story is a real rags to riches story too - she was born to a mother who was an abusive alcoholic, and a father that left when she was a baby. She was abused and abandoned on the street, ended up in an orphanage, where one of the workers there eventually adopted her, and got her speech therapy and singing lessons, as she didn't speak (with that sort of a traumatic start to life, it's no wonder). Turned out she was a natural performer with a gift for music and a unique voice.

Amazing! As a speech therapist myself, I am shocked to know that her speech was delayed because she now shows no sign of that! What a blessing that the worker decided to adopt her and give her a nice life as well as a wonderful future. We have her to thank for bringing Diana's talents to the world! :)

In addition to the lyrics (from further reading)-The singer is an orphan and she is being married off to (likely) a much older man who she does not know or love; she is also mourning the future for her baby brother as she must leave him behind; "rechenka" is the familiar/intimate version of 'river', like 'mom' is the familiar/intimate version of 'mother'; the river in Russian mythology is the divider/transporter to the 'after life'. There are indications that she may be choosing death rather than the marriage (the 'original' song can have up to 30 verses). Diana also says that this is the hardest song she sings.

As a voice therapist, her background should be of particular interest to you - in short, he had a horrific, traumaticearly life and at five years of age she still wasn't talking - one of the caregivers, who later adopted her, tried a speach therapist who used music and singing to encorage here to start speaking - and it seems she never stopped, as there is a LOT of content on her YT channel from her later childhood and early teens!

What an interesting song! I need to go look up the lyrics. I agree, Diana captivates the audience when she starts singing. The way she expresses so much emotion is crazy good. Diana is one of my favorites. Unique and mesmerizing. But now if you or your subscribers would like to hear what the voice of an angel sounds like ( the most haunting, spiritual heavenly mesmerizing angelic voice sent by God just for us mortals ) then KZread “ Lisa Gerrard sacrifice”( click the 8:00 one posted by edgarski) A live performance in front of about 50 lucky people in her own made up chanting language that she said was sent by an archangel from heaven. I know no one will recommend her but if you or your audience that loves Diana’s unique mesmerizing contralto voice , then Lisa’s dramatic contralto will amaze you also. Take you to church. Voice alone with absolutely no body movement. She’s in another celestial world with her eyes closed and will transport you to God’s world. I’m hoping some of you can find 8 minutes to at least privately react-especially during these stressful times when our spirit needs a recharge and spiritual catharsis. Diana & Lisa are my favorites. All love in isolation. Al
