People mention how in sync the bass and drummer are but the thing that really impresses me outside of Tim's guitar playing is the drummer's use of "negative space" - all the places he rests really add dramatic effect.

You say Tim's guitar playing like he's the only guitarist in polyphia
@ObnoxiousNinja99

@@SK23.they say it like Tim's guitar skills are the most obviously impressive thing about Polyphia's music....which is a correct thing to say imo. Polyphia has genius out the wazoo, and Tim's skills are only a part of it
@SK23.

@@ObnoxiousNinja99 you missed my point. im not denying tim's skills, what im saying is that hes not the only one writing or playing the parts in these songs. Scott writes a lot of their music. The big picture is that both of them are equally responsible for the impressive guitar work in the band, not just Tim.
@lred1383

i'm a bassist, so very biased, but it's the negative space in the bassline that stands out to me. The way it just drops out, really makes you feel the contrast
As a guy who’s poured 12 hours over the past 2 days to learn the first 20 seconds of this song at a little above half speed…I can tell you those 16th note triplet harmonic resolutions are no joke.

Absolutely, O.D. is one of my favorites. G.O.A.T. is a lot of fun for the reaction videos, but structurally it feels more like a jam session where they are trading riffs and solos. Some of their others (like O.D.) are more structured songs.

For real, I look up more reaction videos rather than listen to them solo now lol
As a guitarist, I can firmly say that the "bridge" (the Bass/Drum duet) is my favorite part of this song. haha
Trust me bro, from Polyphia's first albumn to latest albumn their all songs are bangers...I swear!!!
The song "Yas" is another fun one. Great reactions, dude.
yes, same bass player. Bass and drummer are both named Clay, fyi. agreed, the band is tight and technically amazing. TBH though, at least in the videos...it is the production quality and editing that is so OP. Really glad you're diggin this Tony!
I've never seen someone use a pick while simultaneously finger-picking.
One of the coolest live bands I’ve ever seen. I was into them, but I didn’t go to see them. They stole the whole entire show. They know how to get a crowd dancing.
Loved seeing you notice the triplet (?) figure the drummer did. That's easily one of my favorite moments of the whole song. The use of space in this track is absolutely incredible.
Gotta love a band that is skilled enough to shock and amaze professionals as well as lure in the casuals with the same playing.
Man I love watching you react , found your channel recently and you’re one of the best for it ! You actually know what you’re talking about with music , mixing and production and because of that you give some awesome insight .the way you catch the tiny little details like the bassist and drummer lining up ! Polyphia truly is peak musicianship and has really been able to create something special in their tone . I think Tim and Scott are truly taking guitar into a new realm . I feel like guitar hasn’t been this changed up since evh made tapping famous
There are 'Making of...' videos on Tims channel where he breaks down how he wrote a song. He has one for GOAT, you may have found it already. I heard these guys for the first time a few weeks ago and still going down the rabbit hole.👌
From a video production standpoint I've always loved how they're wearing black t-shirts in "heaven" and white t-shirts in "hell."

Loved your reaction. Such a sick song, so many pleasureable sounds.
Highly recommend O.D. and Yas. Loved this reaction and your overall vibe, keep em coming!
Hope you keep doing Polyphia. One of the most unique bands out there right now and they only get better and better with every release.
Henson said in an interview that it took him an hour to get the guitar down…..wild!
Tim started on violin at a very young age, switched to guitar in his early teens. His mother is Chinese.
I wish you were my band director in high school, I found Polyphia in 2016 which is the year I graduated and having any level of appreciation for guitar music or drums is really cool
Yep, this is the first song I heard of theirs and I was hooked immediately. Then I looked them up and listened to everything they had released! Been following them ever since! Love your content and your reactions. Yes, you stop and rewind a lot but at least when you do it you add value to why you did by giving us something more you caught regarding some detail you picked up! Oh man. Once you see their song O.D. You’re gonna lose your mind! I just found your videos but I really like your presence on camera and I’m working through your other videos now! But yes, please, definitely try O.D.!!
A song to listen to by these guys is definitely Loud off of The Most Hated. Totally different vibe, kinda like post boss battle type stuff, while still including their usual crazy playing style!
Awesome reaction.
Yeah, right? Blows my mind. This is the tune I send my guitar playing friends. It’s so tight. I’ve seen live video-it’s the same. There are a lot of talented players out there and a lot of amazing bands. Have you checked out Maximum the Hormone? Try the song Alien first.
love music. and rap n rock are my favorites. So this is awesome for me. And a very smart idea to take rock guitar playing and have rap vibes and bass with. That's pretty awesome they do that. So being a guitar solo guy and loving rap n rock makes this perfect imo. No vocals just badass guitar playing and having a rap like vibe with it is great.

Festivals, at Danish festivals they don`t get payed much so it`s mostly 3-4 big bands, and 30 unknown bands filling up the festival. 2020 and 2021 been bad years on that front. in 2019 I was the Denmark's biggest festival, and found this new Danish all girl Doom metal band (slow dark metal). The video is also from that festival, I assume it`s the biggest venue they played at, even tho it`s the smallest of 6 stages at the festival. If you like Polyphia, a band you might like to react to is Asterism. A young mostly instrumental prog/metal trio from Fukuoka, Japan. The guitarist HAL-CA (pronounced either hal-ka or Haruka, her real name) and bassist Miyu are probably my favourites in their respective instruments at the moment. The drummer Mio is also no slouch. They have been writing and performing their own music on stage since they formed when Haruka and Miyu were 12, Mio 14. Their first album 'Ignition' was produced by Bootsy Collins after he found them on facebook when they were 15, 16 and 18yrs respectivly, and included Buckethead as a guest on a couple of tracks. A good, gentle, introduction would be the track 'Church' off their latest album 'Guernica +A' kzread.info/dash/bejne/op-drbV7iJuwgKQ.html Another great track is is 'Dawn', imho the best version is kzread.info/dash/bejne/lKmFstiCfq3JcZM.html despite the not perfect quality of the video you really get to see Haruka play, and her fantastic stage presence.

I was just gonna recommend Asterism, my favorite would be Gunfire, but i guess Church and especially Dawn would be a great first impression. They seriously are (skill-wise) a japanese polyphia. I do love the 360° stuff but that's probably a bit hard to react to, since you have to constantly look around :P Plus Blaze (Live) is also great stage energy by Hal-Ca.

Straight-forward, but difficult to play, and they were all really young. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pqprqtuzZMvXnZM.html In 2016 they released Renaissance and that's when the transformation and exploration really started. They started implementing more pop ideas in their tech-prog-metal writing. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZJyg0JONf7S7ipM.html By their 2018 release, they have confidently developed their interesting pop-rock-metal-hip-hop fusion sound.
