Wendy is truly the base of RV songs. Her harmonies and backing vocals are the base for sooo many of the songs. Our versatile main vocalist!

people should realize that being good singer doesn't always base on who can hit the highest note. it how they use their vocal range rightfully and red velvet has it. they are called one of the best groups with good vocals. even we know Irene and Yeri is quite weaker vocalist than Wendy, Seulgi and Joy. Red Velvet also has the best harmonies in the Kpop industry ~

I think that's the reason why Sment have beautiful harmonies...the same happens with SNSD. 3 have a strong range and the others are weaker but I think that's a beautiful balance, not everyone should be good in everything. For a reason they are a group and not soloists. Members help each other because the company choose the perfect combination, with a soloist...this person must have something ( In kpop industry that's the standard ) to be an all-rounded artist.

What is amazing about these artists.. especially Red Velvet is their stability in their vocals even while they are dancing on stage. The recent concerts of theirs in the Philippines and in London, the fancam footage shows the live vocals coming thru while performing on stage. Because of their real talent, they have the confidence to really energetically interact with the audience.

Now yall understand why some member have more line then others. Is for not ruin their vocal cord. Every red velvet song is hard to sing. Irene and Yeri is actually amazing here. Most kpop artist really struggle when they sing red velvet song. But still is hard for Irene and Yeri too. So thats why mostly Irene and Yeri got less line then others.

Ah I really hope RBB had a recording behind too, because the ending part there is very very difficult the one where Wendy ended the song. where she hit a certain note and it changes to another one. That shows why she is the main vocal of red velvet. and also Wendy does the layer on all of their songs I'm just sad it didn't showed as much in here. Also Wendy's opening in All I want for Christmas had trended because she hit like 12 notes in 2 seconds, just shows how amazing she is. I hope you can see those. Also Seulgi said in Bestfriend Recording Behind that Wendy is her vocal mentor since they debut, and that says a lot. I hope you can react to Like Water Recording Behind and Best Friend too. the original key of the song is extremely high, and so naturally it would not fit everyone's vocal range, but i personally think they did an excellent job. also the parts that you pointed out as more 'struggling' were for back vocals in which they needed to sing even higher, which is very understandable. indeed wendy and seulgi have the most developed voices, but irene and yeri's voices are definitely my favorite when it comes to harmonizing/lower register.

oh god the wendy stans in these replies are really annoying lol for some, seulgi's parts were harder. for some, wendy's was harder. it depends on how high or low your voice can go, how to control it, etc. you could say some technically wise wendy has the hardest part but there are always subjective ways voices work. anyway. stfu.

4:28 "When you're in a recording session or a recording place you have to pay money for the time...." -> Fortunately, majority of major Kpop corporations have their own recording studio inside their building along with producers and sound engineers. So they are relatively flexible with recording time while less worrying with the money for recording because it's their own place.

Thank you for the reaction :) I personally think that RV sings quite differently in Feel My Rhythm, and you can see that they are more focused on making 'pretty' and 'ethereal' sound matching the vibes of the song, which explains the slight uncomfortable singing in some parts (also the fact that female idol songs are almost always placed above comfortable range). I do really like that they are still very passionate in delivering other sounds of Red Velvet through Feel My Rhythm even in their eighth year. Also, Red Velvet members have great low notes and personally, a notable example would be the whole Monster ep.

The nasal tone is a cultural level preference. It is deeply routed in "classical" Japanese and Korean singing. It is probably also common in most of the other oriental styles, but I do not have enough background in those styles to say for sure. Growing up in Canada, it took me a long time to get accustomed to it. To this day I would not say that I particularly "like" it. I don't "mind" it. The reason that you like Wendy's voice tone is because she was raised mainly in Canada (actually not very far from me), so she sings mainly in a "western" vocal style. She could walk on a Broadway stage and people would not know that she was a K-pop star.

People will say passagio in English! I mean... not in English obviously, but will still use that term - or they will say someone is singing across their break. It is cool to hear you noticing the way Wendy changes her tone and placement throughout various parts - because she's really doing that to blend with the other members depending on which part it is or if it's a part that features her more as a soloist in front of the group. (Aside from the changes due to where it is in her range etc.) So they said at that part where she did it with more air, that that was "hers" - her featured chorus area. I love the commentary as well noting the weaknesses of Yeri and Irene as well as their strengths - it's only natural that every member of the group doesn't have the same abilities, which is how they complement each other. Watching Seulgi layer is soooooo gorgeous. She's like an entire orchestra all of her own. To me Seulgi is very nasal but not in the FRONT - it's like, deep and dark. It's so beautiful. And yes! Seulgi is recording harmonic lines that are not at all predictable, like a proper thick middle harmony. Seulgi has a gorgeous lower register. Joy definitely has the most air, and has also struggled most with vocal stamina and injury so it's exactly as you said. But yes. Wendy works so hard. She is so incredible.

@@deeharper1364i mean, of course the vowels not. But the sounds that come from ㅁ,ㄴ definitely are. you need to internalize the process of nasalization for you to pronounce those the right way if want to reach a native level of Korean.

These women have been singing professionally for 8 years now. Studying nonstop years before their debut until now. I think they have a pretty good idea what's gonna hurt their vocal chords, their limits, what actually sounded good or wrong. Plus, this video shows a lot. They're in the booth exploring whatever alleys that could potentially work for the track, which of course is supervised by the engineers, vocal coaches, etc. They all study before the recording (not just Seulgi). They record multiple songs a year. They've worked with various people that actually have released stuff. They for sure know more about this craft more THAN WE DO. Anyway, you guys just sounded pedantic rather than informative.
