Radiohead were well established when Muse emerged (started out 10 years earlier). In the early days Matt Bellamy was sometimes accused of copying Thom Yorke’s vocal style. He didn’t.

The 7 String is a Manson E, flamed Sycamore body, Kent Armstrong pickups. Matt bought it 2nd hand. Manson then came out with the CE which is based on the original but with flamed Maple body, MBK Pickups, and the dot inlays a spaced further apart which Matt uses mostly out of the two versions.

Great reaction guys thanks You definitely get a progressive vibe with Muse, Matt is a genius! Personally I prefer their first 4 albums. Absolution and Origins of Symmetry are all killer no filler. Stockholm Syndrome from Glastonbury 2004 is incredible, as is Butterflies and Hurrucanes from Wembley. They always put on such an incredible show live for a 3 piece guys

Most of Matt Bellamy’s guitars are Mason brand.... including that 7 string. Chris(bassist) in that era used a lot of Rapture basses by a brand called Pedulla. He also used Fender pbass Excalibur, but hes fender go to is the jazz bass. In the early days of Knights of Cydonia he used a Rickenbacker 4001. From 2010 or something like that he started using Status basses( the ones with lights in the fretboard). Theres a variations of a Status that is a double neck, he uses that live for a song called Madness. The bass has a Status in the bottom and a Kitara digital pad in the upper. You should check the song live to see it in action.

This is when Muse were very innovative. One can say that it is basically a britpop / alternative rock band, but man, some of their songs have really hardcore riffs and they tended to play it heavy live too. I kinda credit Muse for inventing some parts of what has since become the new progressive metal scene, where pretty choruses and melodies mix with brutality and noise. The most brutal riff would be in Stockholm Syndrome. Suggest to check out Stockholm Syndrome from Glastonbury 2004. IMO their best show.

I got to see Radiohead in a small pub in Brighton England 1992...been around a bit longer than Muse. Brian May from Queen really loves them and says they remind him of a latter day Queen that don’t take themselves to seriously! Great band, probably the best coming out of UK right now..Matt is a major shareholder in Manson Guitars, (not overall owner as some people think) and the best possible marketing tool for the brand. Fun fact, Dany from The Warning is sponsored by Manson and plays the MA Evo, in dry satin black. Loaded with an internal Fuzz Factory and Sustainiac system, it’s a beast of a guitar. Can be seen in action on their songs The End/Queen of The Murder Scene etc.

Matt Bellamy only plays custom made Manson Guitars, each one is hand made for him personally based on what he asks for (one he simply said I want it glittery). Interestingly when asked about it once he explained "When you pick up a fender you play like Hendrix, A les Paul you play like Jimmy Page, I always wanted to play like me so I had a guitar made for me.

This was an early Manson guitar, so it would likely have had a pair of Bare Knuckle 'Nail bomber' pickups and a Zvex fuzz factory built in, think he used to use Orange amps but not sure for this era. I also think Muse were once a Radiohead tribute band? But don't mention it to the purer of Muse fans 😂. Both great bands, but Muse have definitely differentiated themselves since.

Each one of Muse's albums has a theme that represent different ways the world will end. "Citizen Erased" is about the making of a future dictator. Fast forward to 2015 and "The Globalist" is the sequel to "Citizen Erased" and it's about the dictator finishing her domination of Earth. Check out " The Globalist", Live at Glastonbury 2016. Been a fan of Muse since 1999...but "Hullabaloo" was their first live CD/DVD collection from around 2003-4 if my !@#%ing memory serves correct, and its worth watching the whole thing. But Matt Bellamy really should be ranked up there with some of the so-called guitar greats,he's pretty much a virtuoso on guitar and piano, plus I don't need to mention his vocal histrionics. Great call on the Radiohead comparison, but I give the edge to Muse any day. Most of the music from this "Hullabaloo" offering was from their first 2 albums, and singles, which is possibly why it feels like it has a more progressive harder edge, and a smaller venue makes it a bit more personal. Again, not digging the flopped videos, but you guys gotta do what ya gotta do,just to stay one step ahead of !@#%ing You Tube or record labels. I'm glad it wasn't only The Warning videos that were getting this treatment (though I would've thought they'd would be one of the few acts you could get away with). Anyhoo more Muse and word soup... !@#% yes !

Micro Cuts in particular fucking destroyed Matt's vocal chords. He really can't hit the high notes he used to be able to, and when you watch performances like this, it's little wonder why. And Citizen Erased is often considered Muse's best song. While I disagree on it being the #1 song they've ever made, it's pretty much a masterpiece.
