2:53 poetry right there... I just cant get over how he delivers it... how he holds back when he says "hold", how he screams from his guts when he says "pain", how he begs her... how he tells her off "Stop hiding from me!" Or accuses her: "YOU've taught me to lie" "and to KILL"... it is such a rare thing to come accross such a perfect interpretation of pain, despair and anger.

Totally agree! The whole song is a masterpiece, but when it comes to that part... It's just pure perfection. The despair in his voice is so clear and genuine, matches 100% the lyrics and what is it like, to be in such a relationship.

The lyrics of these song are really sth else. Besides from the bridge until the very end the song only grows in angst. the way the voice part is written like he almost does not pause until the end delivers a lot, so much pain and its like hes screaming from inside

@@GinniWallin I think Maddie Ziegler's dances in Sia's work are a bit more impressive than this only because there are very few to no edit cuts. Maddie does several minutes of routine without a margin for error. While the dancers in this video are great, could even better than Maddie, there's no real way of telling with how the video is shot. Not bashing the video. I think the dynamic cuts from the band to the dancer are neat.

Dead inside! Revere a million prayers And draw me into your holiness But there's nothing there Light only shines from those who share Unleash a million drones Confine me then erase me babe Do you have no soul? It's like it died long ago Your lips feel warm to the touch You can bring me back to life On the outside you're ablaze and alive But you're dead inside! You're free to touch the sky Whilst I am crushed and pulverized Because you need control Now I'm the one who's letting go You like to give an inch Whilst I am giving infinity But now I've got nothing left You have no cares and I'm bereft Your skin feels warm to caress I see magic in your eyes On the outside you're ablaze and alive But you're dead inside! Feel me now, hold me please I need you to see who I am Open up to me, stop hiding from me It's hurting babe Only you can stop the pain Don't leave me out in the cold Don't leave me out to die I gave you everything I can't give you anymore Now I've become just like you My lips feel warm to the touch My words seem so alive My skin is warm to caress I'll control and hypnotise You've taught me to lie without a trace And to kill with no remorse On the outside I'm the greatest guy Now I'm dead inside!

I remember being a huge fan of Muse in early 2000's, when I was in high school. The last album I remember was Black Holes and Revelations, but my favorites were Absolution and Origin of Symmetry. After high school I got too busy with life and didn't explore new music, so I missed The Resistance and The 2nd Law, and kind of forgot about Muse altogether. Years later, I'm driving home from work, listening to the local alternative rock radio station, on quiet. This song starts playing. Within the first few seconds I thought "Wow, this is a really good beat" so I turn it up. Not two seconds after hearing "Revere a million prayers" I got goosebumps and felt butterflies in my stomach and said out loud "Holy shit, it's Muse!" When I got home the first thing I did was look up Muse. Low and behold they've release three new albums (this was pre Simulation Theory). I started remembering their old stuff and how much my friends and I loved their music. That night I listened to the first three tracks of Drones on KZread... and then bought all their albums (I had CDs of Absolution and Revelations and had lost them). I remember laying on the couch, headphones blaring, listening to Drones and just thinking, "Wow." This song might be my favorite Muse song ever because whenever I hear it (regularly) I think back to that night where I heard it for the first time and credit it with reintroducing me to Muse - in my opinion the best rock band of the 21st century.

This song describes PERFECTLY how it is to be in a relationship with a narcissistic person, and what you're left with after getting out of that toxic relationship. I know because I've been in that relationship and I can say, the lyrics are 100% on point... At the beginning it did feel like ''..draw me into your holiness'', he was perfect in my eyes. ''Unleash a million drones - And confine me then erase me babe'' he would accept me and then soon completely changed me. On the outside he was ''ablaze and alive'' but he was truly dead inside, everybody saw him as the most talkative, attractive, compassionate all knowing fun guy to be around, but only I knew it was all for a show - actually dead inside. ''You're free to touch the sky whilst I am crushed and pulverised, because you need control'' a classic narcissist behaviour, he was still acting like a perfect guy while holding me on a leash making me feel i have to be grateful to be with him. I can go on, but I think you get the picture. In the end i am left also dead inside because he drained me. Today, every new relationship i'm in, i present myself as this ''My lips feel warm to the touch , my words seem so alive, my skin is warm to caress, I'll control and hypnotise. You've taught me to lie without a trace and to kill with no remorse. On the outside I'm the greatest guy (girl)'' ... But I'm dead inside... I killed (ended relationships) without remorse...

My god, I felt every single word you said. Without knowing the background to any of this, I also felt that this is what this song might be able. The ending lyrics, “you taught me to lie without a trace and to kill with no remorse”, that’s run very very deep to me because of everything my ex did to me. The world effectively turned against me because of her when she was the problem. I don’t know you or your situation but keep your chin up and keep looking forward and just know someone out there feels how you feel.

My ex-girlfriend literally left me after I took care of her, I did everything, bought her everything, feed her when she was sick, bought her any jewellery she wanted, brought her medicine, always there to talk when she needed someone...she breaks up with me over texts and treats me like I did nothing for her, acts like the happiest person without me. She played me and I was a fool, she was a total actress and I thought she loved me. I gave too much, I drained myself. Then after some time and listening to this eye-opening song I realize that I am free, but I am dead inside just like she was. Love hurts so much and it is a vicious cycle. I drove 200 miles to be with a girl that I thought loved me to stop her from making a horrible decision and she still dumped me. I don't regret it really but I regret a lot of other things. I just hope I can stop having dreams about her.

+thetechmanreviews Happened to me. Some people can be so self-centred; I'd say one day they'd realise their error, although that's only for people with a social adequacy enough to find someone else. Best advice, listen to muse till you pass out, continue walking the earth; after being drained that is an achievement. You're not alone, so don't walk the road like a battlefield, let this one go seriously? The more you hold onto it... Well, your wasting time, they don't value you enough as you did them, you should of cut 'the succubus off' ages ago . I had a lot of one night stands. Was miserable a lot for the first couple, although, after a while, i found another girl who cared about me, when i needed her the most; having almost died from spinal surgery. You found love once, you will find it again, oh so many times..

That's literally one of the best videos MUSE ever made. I was magnified from the beginning 'till the end, not a single part was wrong, the way they danced seriously captured me, they were so strong but graceful and sensual, the way they included the meaning of the song in their moves was brilliant, plus, the way the room was filled with the representation of the ashes (I guess?), and their eyes... I mean, this video is so simple but so complexed, I truly love it, like the song itself. I'm so happy to had the chance to know your music when I was 11yo; Now I'm almost 27 and I love you like the first time.

This song is the pure description of narcissistic abuse. When we love someone because we sincerely love them but, are also trauma bonded due to narc abuse we grew up with as children. How we give them everything and they cannot see through our eyes. How we don't firsthand realize they cannot give us back what we give. They keep themselves closed off which gives us anxiety and other mental issues like confusion and insecurity. Time and time again we kiss them and love them but, deep down we know it is only surface and can't penetrate deep down to their soul. So, we continue to give and give hoping they accept it and start to reciprocate but, they do not. Instead they gaslight us and need control. They give an inch, We give infinity. Then one day when we realize all the issues and problems we have nothing left to give. We ourselves become jaded and almost like them. We pray day in and out that they love us back the way we do them but. they leave us out in the cold everyday and night. We finally cannot give them anymore even though we want to. In the end the only thing we can do is NOT become like them, not become dead inside, not become just as abusive as they were.

Muse has some really great bridges and instrumental interludes. I also love how they'll really finish songs with a bang either by punching up the final chorus like in Mercy, or putting in a more intense outro, like in Madness.

+Nate Miller Yes, we remember, it doesn't change the fact that those songs are much better works then any of the songs, since 2006. I think when people are talking about how they like old Muse better it isn't neccerely about them being harder. It is more about how the old songs where much better written then the new songs, better vocal lines etc, and even better lyrics.

  • @LiveLaughLovecraft

Stefán Atli Jakobsson Better lyrics? I dunno, lots of the songs on Drones have really great lyrics. Plus, most of them are well composed.

  • @Atlas65

    @Atlas65

    8 жыл бұрын

Rebecca Miguel Agree to dissagree then, Rebecca. I don't think that the songs are well composed, for example. The vocal line in Reaper is weak, but the Axel Rose/Gun's n' Roses Chorus in the song is pretty strong though, and the solo is really great, but that doesn't make the songwriting of the song good. Plus the lyrics are pretty weak (though I think the message is strong, but the words are just not good enough). Psycho, is mediocre with mediocre lyrics. There are phew songs that I think are with a pretty strong songwriting. But those are mostly the pop songs, like Dead Inside and the song with the Starlight feel. The strongest moment on this album is Defector, that is a song that has good songwriting, great innovative riff, and really well composed vocals. - On the Other hand if I talk abour Absalution there is not one song that I can critize like the songs on Drones. For example, Time is Running out, a great rock/pop song with fantastic riff and fantasticly well written vocal line and lyrics. The Small print, Thoughts of Dying Atheist, Sing For Absolution, Endlessly, Butterfly and Hurricanes, Falling Away from you and Hysteria, great songwriting, and really good lyrics. And not to mention masterpiece's like Ruled By Secrecy, and Blackout and Apocalypse please. There isn't a weak moment on this album, and I could say the same with Origin of Symmetry, and still the Newer albums are getting more praise. Although these two albums are 10 times stronger than any other album they have done.

I accidentally discovered muse later at 33. This is my favourite song they do. It perfectly describes my last relationship. 8 years of trying to make someone else happy and by the end I realized she was dead inside and by that point so was I. I gave her everything. I can't give her anymore. This song could be about drugs for all I know but it sums up that chapter of my life.

They cured my mum's bad hip in 2006 because she moshed out to them with me at a gig and it must have sorted out whatever had dislodged itself. They are still my favourite band. 23 years!
