MURTALA MUHAMMED INTERNATIONAL WHAT'S IT ABOUT THE NEW TERMINAL | CHALLENGES + WHAT IS BEEN DONE

AIRPORT REVEALED 2
This is the part 2 of our Airport Revealed.
It's travel chaos! and this how some people are describing it. Traffic is backed up quite a bit. this is mmi airport this evening and this is what a lot of travelers are experiencing.
My advice:
. Arrive early and account for the time it takes to park and walk to the terminal
. Be flexible. be at this airport 3/4hr before your flight. IATA says 3hr but remember, no two airports are the same.
. Pack smart, and pack some snacks especially if you are traveling with children they do not have enough restaurants yet.
. Pack your patience

It is a shame that they didn't plan access to the Terminal Building via the carpark at the planning stage!!

Agree it’s a shame, but the car park is a private project completed by a private company (on land leased from FAAN) years before the new terminal building. What FAAN should have done was plan a link from the new terminal to the car park - and perhaps compensate the private car park operator for any necessary modifications to be made.

I was about to suggest to the Govt or Airport authority to emulate what i saw at the Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, Israel until i got to the @05:00 minutes of your video. They created a space or place for passengers who have just arrived to sit including providing various charging points for mobile applications, same was done for the family, friends etc who have come to wait at the Airport, chairs, charging points, shops, etc in a very large space well decorated and furnished just at the exit of the Airport terminal towards the parking area. Great job you are doing.

You are very correct. It's always beneficial to draw inspiration from successful practices in other airports to enhance the overall experience for travelers. Closer home... they have meet and greet lobby in some airports in Africa... It's long overdue. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Exactly! When was the last time that any Nigerian ABROAD took their entire family and relatives to an airport ABROAD to see them off and/or take pictures - as if the airport is DisneyLand. But once we’re in Nigeria we start to behave in ways we will never do abroad. Nigerians are the WORST (and best) thing to happen to Nigeria!! 🤦‍♀️

When we embark on new projects, we should either consider our cultural inclinations (what works for the German does not work for the Nigerian) or create preventative elements. There's probably no way they could have predicted this particular aspect of Nigerian craziness (like imagine?) but one idea could have been to anticipate and build out a separate large space as they're doing now, or build in a way that prevents access to the highway or funnels people to a particular area that is out of the way. In the U.S., taking Laguardia in NY as an example, you wouldn't be able to access a highway by foot (for the most part) if you tried, because there is at least a very wide, uphill,, lawn "moats" between pedestrian areas and any part of the roads.

Good job Mr. Regional Manager blaming the Nigerian public for your issues. Nigerians are not impatient. The traveling public knows better and have experienced airports across the world. They only wonder why it has to be different in Nigeria. It took donkey years to build a simple terminal, only to end up with a design flaw that didn't allow it to be utilized by airlines that operate large aircrafts. Now it appears that it's not only the apron that had a design flaw. How could there be one exterior entrance into an entire terminal? So, if not for the makeshift connecting bridge between the new and the old, there would be only one? And why not be able to walk directly into a departure hall on the same floor? This design will always result in human traffic. The meeters and greeters issue also shows that the road traffic design outside the airport is also flawed or inadequate to handle the capacity. There are meeters and greeters everywhere in the world, and even airports much busier the MMIA are never this congested. How is a connecting bridge between the parking garage and the terminal an afterthought? How? Someone needs to be prosecuted.

"Nigerians been who we are, we love to see our people off". Like other nationalities dont see their people off at the airport too? "One passenger escourted by 8 people". What survey did you carry out to come to this astronomical figure?? Dont blame Nigerians for your structural lapses and lack of proper planning.
