It's obvious to me that she is highly skilled & in the process of learning an amazing & complicated new instrument. Fantastic! Thanks for sharing & thumbs up.

Your choice of Don McLean's transcendent "Vincent" to demonstrate this remarkable instrument was divine, your execution, exquisite. When I first sung this song for a gig, I was so emotionally moved I almost couldn't finish. A love song about a painter! As McLean wrote, "Now I understand what you tried to say to me." My deepest appreciation.

I'm reading Van Gogh, The Complete Paintings by Taschen and learning about the man and his torment, his friends, and his love for his brother, Theo. Seeing all of his artwork, is incredible. I've gotten 3/4 of the way through and I've stopped for a while, unable to finish right now because we know how it ends. :( McLean's Vincent played on the radio one day and it choked me up knowing now so much more about him as a human being. xx

Harp guitars were popular over 100 years ago, and they were on a lot of phonograph records. I collect records, so I'd seen the name, but only recently found what they look like.

@@teresagray1477To answer everyone's question, most of the harp guitars that were popular 100 years ago broke, long ago, because of the tension of those long strings against a hollow resonator that doesn't offer the same support as the neck. If you have one of these instruments you always have to detune it before long term storage. But also, they were hard to make. They were there because a double bass was too big and cumbersome for most gigs. Once the bass guitar was invented, people decided that was way easier.

As a musician/composer all my life, I've had occasion to "go deep," "enter the haze," "journey with," and "float above" both melody and rhythm. While there, I found a door that allows passage to the music behind the music. These are the sounds of Heaven, the harmonies from which you simply do not want to return. I've learned that while there, however brief the encounter may be, a tiny bit of the soul of music is imparted. Once back in our 5-sense defined realm, you can "pick out" other musicians who have "been there." They've got a piece of that soul that enables them to offer the music behind the music. Muriel is one of them.

I first heard Muriel play at Beanblossom in our campfire jam in 1978. She was a teenager and, even then, she obviously was a musical gift in the making. What an amazing career.
