I take it you haven't seen those videos of guys robbing people on sidewalks at gunpoint and forcing them to shut off their passcodes before taking their phones. A backup secondary always charged up is more important. You can call 911 on it and track the phone down later and/or remote erase the data before they can use it.

More importantly phone jackers tend to rob people who have their phones out. Yeah sure if some walks into a store robbing everyone in it then drop your drop-phone in his bag instead of your real one. A backup phone doesn't require service. You can dial 911 on it for emergency purposes. Its also good for recording while you use your normal phone to call police if you're witnessing a crime. Just keep it in your car.
