Muntons Flagship Hazy IPA - Extract Beer Kit Review

Ойын-сауық

Back after a short baby-related break, it's homebrew time again! Check out this extract kit from Muntons.
This time we picked up a Flagship Hazy IPA kit.
I was surprised at how good this one actually turned out. It's the first time that I've done a beer kit that I thought actually stands up to an all-grain brew!
Muntons describe this as......
"Packed full of premium hop pellets, our New England style Hazy IPA will produce strong citrus and grapefruit notes with tropical and stone fruit flavours."
Product Details
Brewing Volume (L) 20L / 35 pints
ABV approx (% vol.) 5%
Colour Pale Golden Yellow
Hop / Key Ingredient 56g Citra, 60g Mosaic
Malt Low malt

Drop a subscribe! We normally review about 7 pints a day when we do it so the last ones tend to get a bit messy! New videos twice a week.

I mainly brew all grain and this is better than many of my AG attempts at this style. It's excellent.

I loved this kit so much, I totally agree with everything you guys have said. After I accidentally dry hopped 2 kegs of all grain with TCP I’ve had to chuck them and I’m behind. Just popped on a mangrove jacks mango pale ( which I haven’t researched, risky as it could be horrible) I should have done this again but obviously that doesn’t make good content. I think it’s going to be a while before anyone brings out a kit of this quality ,although hoping they do. Another great update cheers guys cheers 👍🍻

Thanks Rick. Keep the videos coming out! All of the ones so far that we have tried out of this range have been good to be fair. I think we'll give one more of them a go after this.

I've been an all grain brewer for 13 years after 30 years of kits. Just drinking a MJ Juicy and I'm impressed, I can't detect a twang. I have one of these on the way and an MJ Grapefruit to do. Just experimenting as AG brews take hours and sometimes the convenience of kits is great. This one looks a cracking beer.

Only heard good reviews of these kits. Will get round to brewing one soon. Out of interest; did you use tap water or bottled water?

I have this kit on the go at the moment, on day 4 of the fermentation. It sounds like a great beer kit from your review and from another well known homebrew review channel. The milk stout seems to be a bit of a disappointment and this Hazy IPA seems to be the best one of the Muntons Flagship range. It says on the instructions to leave for 14 days at room temperature to condition and then serve chilled (our of the fridge) - I am puzzled as to why like other kits it doesn't say keep the bottles or keg at room temperature for 2 to 4 days and then about 10 days at cellar temperature ie 11 to 13 degrees - such as in a garage or shed? I wonder if the 14 days at room temperature (18 to 21 degrees) is so that it keeps 'hazy' and does not clear??

Hi Duncan Thanks for watching If I'm honest, I'm a bit confused. I can't really recall doing any kits where the instructions just say to leave at room temp for 2 to 4 days and then mature at cellar temperatures. Most if not all of the kits that I've done say along the lines of 2 weeks at room temp (or at least one week above 18 degrees) then in the cold to mature. This beer being heavy on the dry hops is best consumed fresh so after the two weeks you might as well just chug it. It's nothing to do with the haziness, that is all taken care of by the mash ingredients (carried out before it goes in the tin) and the dry hopping during active fermentation.

May I ask what water or water profile you used for this? I’m debating whether to use bottled water, RO water or RO with some additions.

Do you have to use a syphon to bottle this kit? What if your just using a standard diy plastic vat with tap?

Hi Nathan, we try never to bottle any hazy style IPAs due to oxidation. However when we do bottle we tend to transfer from the fermentation bucket into a bucket with a tap with the priming solution already in first. We then attach a bottling stick to the tap nozzle and go from there. does that help?
