Muntons Hazy IPA Kit Beer Review - How does it compare to All Grain brewing?

A review and taste test of the Muntons Hazy IPA Kit, this is the first kit I have done in a long time since taking up all grain brewing and I was really interested to see how the standard has changed with this new range of kits. Let me know what you think if you have brewed this yourself, cheers!

I've done the muntons flagship west coast IPA. Fermented in my fermzilla adding pressure to naturally carbonate. I can see why you use RO water as the mineral balance should have been achieved for the extract manufacture ! Good to see a respected all grain homebrewer giving an honest opinion of a kit beer.🍻

I’d really like to try this. I love all grain and believe there is nothing like it but kits can make fantastic keg/bottle fillers especially when you are pushed for time like I often am 🍻

nice one mate and with it being that easy it makes sense to start here or just smash a keg filler. reminds me I have a NZ Pilsner from the festival range. I brewed it a few years ago and was happy with the results. I should get that kit brewed asap!

This is a good video and review. I’ve moved to 100% all grain now but only in the last 6 months up until then I tried and tried all sorts of kits with all sorts of variations added, yeasts, but it was very rarely a roaring success in my opinion. But in saying that I did do 6 muntons kits and their kits in my honest opinion were the ones to get. I did 2 stouts which where awesome and I thought were as good as my all grain stout. I think if you want a better then average keg/bottle filler and your running short on time they’re worth a go. Keep up the good videos

Great looking kit beer. It's been quite a while since I did one myself. Might be time to revisit doing one. The taste difference you mention between AG and kit comes down, I think to the process of getting the original wort evaporated down to the LME and how well that step is undertaken by the manufacturer. Sounds like Muntons are doing a great job of that. I'll keep an eye out to see if these kits are available here. Cheers mate 🍻

After watching your neon raptor brew I ordered this as a keg filler kit. Done it before and it went well. Read some people swapping the yeast for the verdant yeast and having cracking results.

I'm an all grain brewer but very occasionally I'll do a kit if I've got a few bits and bobs lying around that need using up. I like the coopers one can kits with 1kg light DME, a decent yeast and a load of hops thrown in the dry hop. Usually turns out pretty decent and refreshingly simple to do compared to a full all grain brew day.

I think most extract kits will improve over time, on the flip side with a beer like this the hops will also start to fade but it did seem to reach a sweet spot after a couple of months for me

I would like to know if anyone knows of a pear cider kit close to the style of Kopparberg Pear cider? For beer, I was impressed by the Uncle Teddy's Yorkshire Bitter kit from Love Brewing, used with Wyeast 1469 and without the dry hopping stage.

Hi Dude, you said you fermented in the fermenasaurus, did you do it under pressure! I guess not as you say you force carbed. I have an all rounder but have only used it under pressure for all grain brews. Im interested to know if fermenting under pressure improves kits!

I didn’t use pressure on this one as I thought it would be best to allow the yeast to express itself a bit, if it was something I wanted super clean like a lager or maybe a west coast ipa then I’d probably use the pressure option 👍🏻

I think it's 5% assuming you are bottling which adds another 0.5%

The current range of kits is outstanding compared to the little tins i used to do from Boots. I use Mangrove Jack's generally with patients who want to do a brew day but are too frail for a long all grain session and although not really matching AG, they're still often pub quality brews.

Hi and thanks for your honest opinioni. I just got my Hazy IPA kit and am about to brew. I have two beginner questions: in my translation it says the fermenterà must top up to 20L of work - in contrast with the 23L initial quantity. Which one is correct? Second question, what Is RO water?

20L is the kit volume, RO is reverse osmosis a method for filtering the water

not required for this kit although I found ABV came out a bit under the advertised 5% so a little bit might help that
