Munich Christmas Market - The market on Marienplatz - known as the Christkindlmarkt in German - is Munich’s oldest Christmas Market. Its roots are rumored to date back to the Nicholas markets held in the 14th century. Its first mention in town records relates to a market known as the Nikolaidult held on Kaufingerstrasse near the Schönen Turm tower in 1642.
Following the Enlightenment, the Nikolaimarkt was renamed Christmarkt in 1806. After moving locations several times, it found its final home at the heart of the city in 1972, when it became Munich Christmas Market, the so-called Münchner Christkindlmarkt. When the 30-meter Christmas tree is fully decked out and shining with the light of 2,500 candles, the scent of mulled wine is in the air and the sparkle of tinsel is everywhere you look, the cosy atmosphere in the state capital of Munich well and truly captures the magic of the festive period.
Münchner Christkindlmarkt - Der Münchner Christkindlmarkt ist der älteste Weihnachtsmarkt der Stadt. Die Anfänge des Christkindlmarktes sollen mit den sogenannten Nikolausmärkten bereits im 14. Jahrhundert liegen. Urkundlich erwähnt wird eine Nikolaidult erstmals in der Kaufingerstraße beim Schönen Turm anno 1642. Im Zuge der Aufklärung wurde ab 1806 der Nikolaimarkt in Christmarkt umbenannt und fand - nach mehrmaligen Standortwechseln - im Jahr 1972 als „Münchner Christkindlmarkt“ seinen festen Platz im Herzen der Stadt.
Wenn der 30 Meter hohe Christbaum in voller Pracht mit 2500 Kerzen erstrahlt, der Glühwein duftet und das Engelshaar schimmert, dann erfüllt vorweihnachtlicher Zauber die gute Stube der Landeshauptstadt München.

I wish there was more than a thumbs up to give you. My family is from a city east of Munich the wall ran through. But left their to come here in 1728 and 1734 on a pink called, " The John and William". How this makes me long to go home to Upper Bavaria...

Videos are fine, but Jingle Bells? How come I can go to a local mall in America and hear more German songs from the overhead speakers? What's next, selling cheapo Chinese "manger sets" alongside Krippen made by carvers in Oberammergau; Chinese Lionel trains sold alongside Marklins and Fleischmanns and Boone's Farm "wine" alongside real German Gluewein and Pabst Blue Ribbon next to the best local brewery's special brew made for their local Kristkindlmarkt? When Germans start imitating Americans, "alles kaput," a new "stande null" has arrived!

How Germans immitates americans when americans have no Christmas Markets like in Germany ? Cuz of that Song? Stupid ass ! Its Germany brought americans almost everything like Christmas..its americans copied Neuschwanstein and made it Disney..Who copied now who..?
