There are sectional expansion joints that compensate for steel and concrete expansion in summer it is built like that it won't collapse with the load of water but without this technology it can crack and break open. Regular maintenance is a good sign

Mumbai used to be a series of islands not so long back, called Parel, Mazagaon, Mahim, Colaba, Worli, etc before they decided to connect all those islands. This was not done by building bridges between the islands but by reclaiming land from the sea and creating one huge island/archipelago called Mumbai now. So yes, the city itself was formed by "destroying nature".

Wherever you're living right now was a jungle a long time ago, the phone you're using is made of plastic which is a huge threat to nature, the electricity you're using for light, fan or charging this phone was made by burning tons of coal or nuclear energy, the clothes you wear, the footwear, the medicines you take everything was made in factories that emit tons of carbon.
