Dallas Texas DP | Production Vlog Behind the Scenes
On this vlog I we dive into a big production. I was brought in as a gaffer for a portion of this production. I go over the lighting for my portion of the shoot and the lighting used for the big space where the band performed.

Wow what a fantastic BTS video. So much to unpack here, will probably watch it again. I'm a one man band that does video/audio but have been trying to do more and more stuff where I can take my time setting up lighting. I appreciate the effort it takes to get things done right and having the right tools for each job. And having good people helping you AND also lending a hand where needed. Really loved this video!

Glad you enjoyed it! I jump between one man band and a small crew. It is a lot of work sometimes, but I always try to be the best. Thanks for the kind words!

It was draining for sure! I had an 8am call the next day for another shoot. I was worn out! Thank you for watching!

Love the venue but nothing beats working with a crew like that. I did a similar music video this year and it was great just to be able to hang with talented friends. Great work my man.

Did a lot of these type of shows in Ireland for a good few years for a live TV show here. Always good fun working with passionate people. Looking to get back into music soon hopefully! This looked great well done to everyone.

There are a ton of moving parts, but it is so rewarding when it comes together. The final results are proof the team busted tail. When everybody works as one, it makes it a lot more fun. Thanks for watching!

Great seeing a bigger production setup. Can you ballpark how much clients typically bleeds for productions of this size?

I don’t even know where to start on the budget for a shoot like this. The live recording aspect is something I have no idea on. A quick way I budget crew is just count each role at $1,000, even PA’s. This gets me close. Then rentals are another thing to factor in.

Indie narrative shorts, although I did do a corporate video internship at film school.

Do you do them as a full time job or a side hustle?

Technically, side hustle but more of a hobby. GI Bill brings in some money each month while attending Full Sail online. Close to hitting 75 film festival selections, two local TV broadcasts, etc. Won't quit my 9-to-5, but love to get tips from you pros that help me out on these narrative shorts that keep getting bigger. Keep hustling!
