Mullein - Making a tincture & collecting Flowers

Common Mullein is one plant that has fascinated me the most. Almost everyone starts their herbalist journey with this broad-leaf huge mullein. Why? It’s easy to identify, it’s safe to use and can’t be overdosed, tea from mullein is absolutely delicious!
I would like to invite you to start your herbal journey with Mullein. We hope that this small video will be a good introduction to this wonderful herb that will get you started in doing further research and ultimately collecting your own mullein flowers and making your own mullein tea and tincture.

Transplanted in my garden and was surprised when it shot up to 6 feet in the summer here! Now I'm watching all these videos. Thanks for the content. You know a lot about this plant!

    I learned something new - using the leaves as food wraps like banana leaves! Thanks! My share is making oil. I learned from either Susun Weed or Rosemary Gladstar can’t remember but we cut the top of the flowering plant, let it sit for bugs to leave then chop it up with fresh garlic, place in jar and cover with olive oil. Let it sit in a warm spot even placing your jars in a sandbox if you aren’t in a warmer area to help infuse,and after 6-8 weeks strain and you have good ear oil

I found it very easy but since my kitchen window is very shaded I placed the jar in direct sun in my back yard, it seems like most of the sugar is crystallizing even though I have been shaking it. Mullien leaves are a lighter green color and are soft and fuzzy, comfrey leaves are dark green and prickly. Mullien flowers are yellow and grow on a stock, comfrey flowers are light purple. Those are the most easy to see differences.

  • @YouCanToday

    @YouCanToday

    2 жыл бұрын

    yes, but it still will have a "shelf life". Also, you could dehydrate the flowers and then do an oil infusion. The reason infused oil spoils is because of the moisture content of the fresh herb. If the flowers are first dehydrated then put into oil it won't spoil. You will have to only take the shelf life of the oil you are using as a base into consideration.

  • @YouCanToday

    @YouCanToday

    3 жыл бұрын

    Good Day. I'd say that tincture and loose tea have slightly different purpose and thus I can't really say one is better then the other. When you drink tea from mullein leaves it's really good for lungs, digestion it's really earthy and uplifting tonic. Tea from the flowers alone is more of an uplifting property but it's missing many of the earthy elements to it that you find in the leaves. Tincture itself is used when someone is sick, or when you need a strong and powerful amount of mullein properties delivered to every cell of your body fast. On a regular basis I'd say a tea with leaves and flowers is the best while tincture is an important part of the medicine chest.
