Hey I’m Burmese! I was born and raised in NYC but grew up eating Burmese food. I loveeeee tea leaf salad! And every Burmese person eats/loves it. People eat it as a meal, with rice, and it can also be served as a side dish whenever there are family gatherings. It’s also commonly served with dried shrimp.

And Mohingha is typically the #1 choice in Burmese breakfast, but I ate it whenever I wanted lol. And you did pronounce it correct 😂: oh no noodles. “Oh no” means coconut milk. Thanks for repping Burmese food! Most people don’t know Burmese food!

I was just in Myanmar! Green tea leaf salad is hella popular in Myanmar and is usually served as an appetizer or a side dish. Also, the portion side is waaaay smaller. Mohinga IS THE SHIT! But it’s typically only served for breakfast and each region makes it slightly differently. The one you’re eating looks similar to that of Yangon or Mandalay. BEST PART is that it’s only 50 cents a bowl. Fuuuuuuuhhh. You should definitely go to Myanmar soon before tourism hits it hard. Hands down one of my favorite countries that I’ve visited

The whole issue with the Rohingya Muslims is affecting the northern part of Myanmar close to the Bangladesh border, but the rest of the country is relatively safe and peaceful. Everyone is so welcoming and hospitable to a pleasantly surprising extent. I was honestly shocked by how safe the country was. I also talked to a lot of locals and they said that tourism has been significantly increasing, especially in popular regions, such as Bagan.

Omfg thank you so much for just spreading awareness about Burma !! It's so nice to see Burma/Burmese food being recognized by others :) I remember growing up ... still now, people being like "What's BurMA-NESE", butchering up the name and of course having no idea where Burma/Myanmar is, so it's so nice to see that people enjoy the food !

Omgsh I realize you're really good at describing the foods !! Again, seriously so much respect to you for doing this series and edumacating your audience on the different types of food !! By the way, at least from my understanding as a Burmese/Chinese American, LOL .... My family has always eaten tea leaf salad whenever ... it's been more of a snack ! We definitely pair it while drinking tea of course so I don't see why it couldn't be paired with beer HAHA We also eat mohinga ALL TIMES OF THE DAY ALL DAY ERRDAY ! It's a forsure staple in the Burmese cuisine and I know I've ate it anytime anywhere. I also sometimes just like drinking the soup ! Nowadays since people are more in tune with health and all of that, there's actually replacements that Burmese families use instead of the coconut milk in the Ohnoukowsweh ... I'm not going to even try to type it the way the chicken coconut noodle soup appears on the menu, but basically the Burmese translation is "Coconut Noodle". Your pronunciation isn't bad either :) Again, seriously thank you for being great at describing foods, for being an awesome entertainer, and keepin' it real !

For a school project, i had to make a vlog. I didnt want to make a basic vlog of just me talking w transition slides and i wanted mine to be actually entertaining. I saw your vlogs and got so much inspiration from it. The way you cut clips based on the music was sick. You had my full attention in the entire video. I inputted so much into my project and always thought "what would david do" and it made the video that much better. I will say my video was the most entertaining one while a lot of other videos were basically the same. So i just wanted to say thanks for such fun videos. Learned a lot from you. Got a kickass mark. Although my vlogging days are done, every stage of making the video was rlly fun and i see why you love creating content so much. Major respect for you ma dude :)

How about trying some Scandinavian food? It might be hard to find in LA - But I'm sure you'd like it. A lot of Scandinavian food, especially Danish and Swedish food, is about enhancing the umami flavors of protein by serving it with some of the, in my opinion, best sauces you can find together with sour fruit and/or berry jellies or salads. The Danish "Rye bread with toppings" is also a very special experience for a lot of visitors and has deep cultural roots, and I'd definitely recommend trying it if you get the chance! Otherwise, Icelandic food might also be very interesting for you to try, since their dishes are about doing as little as possible to the ingredients to retain the clean and delicious flavors that each ingredient has.

Yassss the food of my people! Whenever someone tells me they’ve never tried Burmese food I go crazy and recommend all the key dishes to try. Dishes you get from the restaurants are a little different than homemade though because they have to add some fluff for cost purposes. For example, tea leaf salad isn’t usually served with cabbage/lettuce.

Tea leaf salad can be eaten as a snack or a meal (usually mixed with rice). Mont hin gar is usually a breakfast food BUT a lot of people also eat it throughout the day (sometimes as an afternoon snack). Also, those little fritters you mentioned are made from yellow split peas :) Those fried crunchy stuff you had in the last dish are fried thick rice stick noodle ^^ A lot of people also add bottle gourd fritters to the last two dishes. You should try them if it's available because they're bomb af.

  • @yourunfinishedcake8591

Heya, I'm a burmese so lemme clarify some thing. The tea leaf salad (one of the national food) is actually healthy, as it is composed of fermented tea leaf, which is good for the gut and the many variety of vegetables associated with it. We eat it with warm rice, and usually as a side dish and not a whole bowl itself. Traditionally it is served with raw garlic, people tend to bite on raw garlic as they eat the tea leaf salad (some old people say it enhances the overall flavour and is better for your bloodstream). The second food you had is Kyay oh (pronounced Chi-e o). Kyay meaning chicken, and oh meaning pot, so it literally translates to chicken pot. This dish is a popular noodle soup thats made with pork and egg. Traditionally it looks very different from the version that you're having, however, I believe you're having the dry version by having the broth and main contents seperately. The third dish is Mohinga (Pronounced Mo hin ga)another national food of Myanmar, it's got a heart catfish broth that has a texture of curry for its thickness. We usually put it chickpea chip was well, which really compliments and elevated the overall flavour. The last one is oh no khao swe (another national food), oh noe meaning coconut milk and khao swe meaning noodles, it has a creamy base yet the broth still has its liquidy texture, you can put either beef, chicken or fish paste as the main meat, (from what I hear, apparently beef is the best meat for it). Hope this was informative! and please try more of our Burmese foods, its very underrated and barely anyone knows it, but trust me its unforgetable once you finally try it!

My time to shine! Im burmese and the fermented tea leaf is more of a snack than anything. It's typically eaten for its caffeine content whether or not it contains any is another matter ahaha. The kyay o is pronounced as such because in burmese there is no letter for j. It is the same as k. Therefore we have to use ky as a j. :) if you want to know anything feel free to ask.

Tea leaf salad is a snack you can also eat it with rice Tea leaf is soaked in hot water until all the bitterness and flavour goes out and then you get the tea leaf and put salt, oil, Msg and chilli and leave it for a week.you can keep it fresh for a long time because its fermented

the beans you are talking about are chick peas. Mohinga is my favorite Burmese dish. I'm so lucky that my grandmother makes the best Burmese food. =) Oh No Kow Soy is also really good. That's my brother's favorite. You should also try the other noodle salads dishes. Burmese food is just so bomb!

Hey David, I’m Burmese and tea leaf salad is usually eaten as a side dish. But like most of our foods it doesn’t matter the occasion or how you eat it, just eat it till you’re full
