This is my favorite Ali _ Frazier fight.

Ali fought a very smart fight in this second matchup. He moved well, threw combinations when the opportunity presented itself, and tied Frazier up when he pressured him in close. Unlike the first fight, Ali didn't allow his ego and overconfidence to supersede a solid ring strategy. Ali could have won their first meeting if he had employed this same strategy. That, and allowing himself more time to recover from a tough fight against Bonavena.

Joe was scary because he had a great chin. No matter what Ali did to him, Frazier just kept coming.

You know, if Frazier had had Ali's arm reach he would've defeated Ali in every match.

The best fight footage of this fight was Jim Jacobs footage. If you haven't seen it, go see it. They used to show it all of the time on espn, as well! Abc butchered it so completely that it's like amateurs did it: watch abc's version and compare it to Jim Jacobs' version; the latter is way better; you can't even see many of the punches on abc's version(one of the fighter's back or side blocks the viewing of punches much of the time)

It was 12 rounds because it was not a title fight. Foreman held the title at that time

You can see Ali's speed here is very diminshed by this round. He was never quite as quick after the 3 year layoff. HOWEVER-In their first fight, March 8, 1971, I am not convinced the 1960s Ali would've beaten Joe that 1st fight. Here's my reasoning-By late 1970-early 1971, Ali had become very arrogant and cocky. He'd beaten everyone, even the U.S. Government! He totally disrespected Joe. I don't care if it was hype to sell tickets, or not. He fired Frazier up so greatly that Joe couldn't wait to get him in the ring. That first fight was the only time I ever saw someone just beat Ali around the ring like that. Ali was only 29 years old in that fight. If hewasn'tt prime, he was 95% of prime. There should've been 3 different knockdowns, but only 1 was official. Ali's right cheek was swollen grotesquely after the 10th round from those tremendous left hooks. Those who are my age that may remember this fight will probably remember it was one of the earliest closed circuit boxing broadcasts. Don King said it would never be on regular TV even after the outcome was known. He was mostly right. I watched patiently for around 10 years, or more, before the full fight was finally shown. The fight reminded me of the first Leonard/Duran fight. Because Frazier and Duran were both big underdogs, and loved to brawl and fight inside. They both went at the boxer with such fury that the boxer had to fight the aggressors fight. Its BS Leonard wanted to trade with Duran. Leonard fought differently in the second fight because Duran had nowhere near the desire as he did in their 1st fight. Joe and Norton were Ali's Kryptonite

The 60's Ali would have beaten Frazier without question. He was more accurate in his jab, and combinations. His footwork was faster and his defence was much better. If you want to see Ali in his absolute prime watch him in his 1967 match against Cleveland Williams. If Ali beat Frazier two out of three matches in the 70's.....

Ali in his prime (1966-67) would have beaten any other fighter in their prime -- lighting fast, stamina to burn, deadly accurate jab, foot and head movement that made him nearly impossible to hit, and lethal combinations. He is ranked No. 1 by most boxing experts for good reason. An aside -- After a three year layoff, and only two professional fights prior to meeting Joe, Ali was most certainly not 95% of prime at the time.

Absalutly won ,ran Joe into punches landed short punches that jolted Fraziers head ,Joe rushed in with head (witch is why Ali tied him up)only landed a few light shots.When you see this fight and Norton Vs Ali 2 a version that is clear & close you see all the short jolting shots that Ali lands up close ,clean good punches he outlanded both Frazier &Norton in the 1974 rematch fights(by a lot) .The period from sept 1973 Ali -Norton 2 -2nd Frazier fight then Foreman Where Ali greatest fights against atg. He grabbed Joe by the back of the head atleast ten times in this single round alone. No way it is a win. This is cheating of immense magnitude. By that criteria Jimmy Young should have won against Ali. However rules are always twisted and used contradictorily to favour Ali.

Styles make fights. The man who handed Tyson his first loss, fought him exactly as he needed to to win. Keep him at bay with a strong accurate jab, don't stand right in front of him and trade punches, tie him up when he got in close, pepper him with combinations when the opportunity presented itself. In that one fight at least, Douglass fought Tyson exactly like Ali would have fought him. That said, Ali in his prime would have beaten Tyson. Most likely via TKO in the later rounds.

Frazier wins 2/3 if he could’ve ever got a ref to properly enforce the rules. Ali fought vs Joe like swing, swing, swing grab back of Joe’s neck and pull down Swing, swing, swing ...grab the back of Joes neck and pull down Rinse and repeat... those whole FN fight, ALL 3 fights... refs never said 💩 not one fn time. Ali dominated the round by excessive holding and clinching to the point it became ridiculous. 134 clinches in 12 rounds. Ali won the 2nd Frazier fight with his usual punch and grab tactics and keep repeating that throughout the fight. And he could because no referee would dare stand up to Ali in the 1970’s

Taunting Ali, just like a thug.

Ali had Joe in big trouble early in this fight. Tony Perez inexplicably ended the round prematurely, thereby denying Ali an almost certain knockout. The way Joe bulled in, there was a danger of an unintentional butt. So Ali had to hold Frazier by the back of the neck, to avoid this happening.

Then grab and hold Frazier so that Frazier can’t punch back. Ali repeated this throughout the fight. On average Ali grabbed the back of Frazier’s neck and head about every 15 seconds of every round and held him tight. And the hapless referee allowed him to get away with it. No warnings no rounds taken away no anything. Ali did not win fair and square. He used grabbing and holding as a way to control his opponents in all of his fights. Ali was the greatest holder and clincher of all times. Not the greatest fighter of all times. You need to actually watch what Ali did during his fights. And not hero worship him when you watch his fights.

Ali in his prime would have knocked out Tyson in his prime. This is not Ali’s prime. This Ali would have had trouble with a 21 or 22 year old Tyson. The Ali that dispatched Sonny Liston would have knocked out 22-22 Tyson.

I'm not sure Ali would have knocked out Tyson but he would have definitely won. Ali always did well against the powerful heavy punchers- Lyle, Foreman, Liston etc. Tyson succeeds with inclose boxing, because he doesn't have a long reach. Ali wouldn't have let Tyson get involved in in flighting. Ali would have constantly jabbed at a distance and setup quick combinations. He might have worn down Tyson and achieved a KO or TKO but more likely he would have won convincingly on points.
