The Dawn Chorus is a spectacular event, so I decided to record the birds on and around the allotment. This stunning performance highlighting nature at it's best! Planting out begins with Sweet Peas, Spring Onions, Beetroot and a sowing of radish. This also prompts the successional sowing of more Spring Onions and Beetroot. THANK YOU to all NHS staff and other professions that have continued working during these uncertain times

There's nothing like the sound of the birds, what a sad place it would be without them. I planted out my shallots this morning, and have just put my peas in to soak ready for planting tomorrow. Just put some supports up ready for the beans and peas. Your allotments looking really good and the plants are looking really healtthy, those lettuce should give you a good crop too. :)

my wife watched this video as i was also watching. i'll hear the dawn chorus once again when we eventually get an adapted property for us, she says. i tried to explain that an open space like an allotment site or the edge of woods is the best place to listen to a diverse variety of birds filling the air with their music. the inner cities give sound of sparrows coughing. lol. we do hear the lovely sound of a lonely cock blackbird. a blackbird does not a dawn chorus make. did you know these birds sing from 3am even through the worst of winter temperatures..................brian

Like you, I love the dawn chorus. It is a sign of life and hope. However, you're still a 'youngster' and I usually hear it on my second trek for a ….. It is still truly a lovely serenade.Peas (8 x 4ft rows)out in the garden today and I've got to fleece them over as the blackbirds even flew into the polytunnel to get at the shoots. My 'first earlies' have now gone into the open air and they look good. I'll look for some straw to cover the fully-filled buckets. Your seedling plants look enviable. Like the way you use your hands as the most useful tool in the garden. Keep 'em coming, dear bro'. Paul

Hi Nigel, love the bird song and plot tour. I planted out my lettuce and beetroot yesterday so hope for good results. I like cos lettuce as it’s usually crisp and long lasting, however the variety I sowed is a bit tough & tasteless, do you know a good variety I could try. (Had to use seed I already had as it’s had to get just now). Never seem to get much success with sweet peas, only had 3 out of 20 germinate, my neighbour also struggles with them. I’ve no idea why they’re a problem. Keep safe & well, cheers.

Hi Nigel, my shallots went out in November, they did take a while to get going though, but they look good now, not quite as perky as yours given the drought! Is the lettuce Navara or - I think you spelled it - Navarna? I get my Navara from Kings and its a favourite of mine, never see it all green and bushy like yours though, it’s always nice and red by planting time. Also you might remember I started my Swift in January in the conservatory and they broke surface in 8 days: all the best - Steve
