Traxxas Slash transmission setup and differential oil for oval racing
♥ Don't miss a thing! SUBSCRIBE!! Click the link! / @ovalrc
Setting up your transmission and differential is in my opinion the most important thing you can do to your Mudboss or Traxxas Slash. Using a light oil in the diff will help your car turn in the corners. Transfering power from the motor to the ground with the least amount of resistance is what makes you fast.

Best advice I’ve found in long time. Unfortunately I had to talk with many drivers before I found out. Glad to see racing info shared. Mine spin almost like my front ones.

When I was running an RC10 oval racing I would take part the transmission pull the bearings, replace with bushings. Then fll it with toothpaste and reassemble. Install the motor and run at low speed for 30 min. Then tear apart, clean, put the bearings back in and reassemble. This made it really smooth and would spin easily.

How often do you tear down and re-oil the diff and gears? I had this suggested to me by one of my local fast guys a while back and it does help it rotate greatly. Ive been tearing it back down about every 4 races. I cleaned out my diff but still greased the others in the trans case. Going to clean and oil them suckers too + the bearing trick. Thank you!

So, why would you spend so much time getting the diff to spin free? I find that the rear end walks too much under acceleration when the diff is this free. I ended up installing the fluid filled diff and using 6000 cst diff fluid. It really helped the slash go straight under throttle. It does not appear to have effected the steering or cornering speed running asphalt oval.

rc oval track racing looks intriguing so i've been watching some oval videos like your mudboss series trying to find out a little more about it and i have to admit it's got me scratching my head a little trying to understand why it's centered around the 2wd slash with the HCG chassis, that slash is with the stock tires is ok for bombing around the street in front of your house but they suck in the dirt, converting my slash to the LCG chassis was the biggest single handling and durability improvement i've ever made to the slash, why isn't the LCG chassis used instead of the HCG chassis?

Most places run a "stock" class so for under $500 with a rtr couple Batts and a charger u can get in the race I'm just starting out and my local indoor carpet track is stock with lcg they do allow the proline slick tires and aluminum shock caps plus a few bumper mods to allow bodies to fit better.... I'm still working on my suspension setup once I can get the car to stick and turn left I can strat making these small fine tuning adjustments to gain speed but I currently tuck the right front up under the car and push hard on entry and exit....

Why not run a locking spool for dirt oval, at least that's my plan. I like sliding sideways like real life modified's when I run my mudboss, everyone else at the track I run likes grip. I like sliding the turns and I lose too much traction with an open diff due to my left rear lifting some.

How to make your mudboss run 3 to 4 tenths of a second faster is when you buy it new run the motor under water for 10 minutes then immediately blow the water out and put electric motor oil in it and it will drive much smoother because it gets the metal chunks out of the brushes in the motor the water will become grey and it will run faster.

@@duncanking8677 depends on if i'm racing or bashing and if i'm using metal vs plastic axle stubs. The plastic are more forgiving on bearings, and racing i pretty much keep it clean. But when I take it to the beach and get everything full of sand and run monster truck wheels my bearings start going out, never had a main bearing go out though, they usually stay sealed up pretty good.
