MST3K-Broadcast Editions: 514-Teenage Strangler 11/7/1993

Комедия

Yipes Stripes, that's the latest Broadcast. Yipes Stripes, that's the latest Edition.
With short: Is This Love?
Aired November 7th, 1993 at 10am. The world premiere!
We're circling back and clearing through some backlog of Comedy Central reruns (and maybe a few other premieres or near-premieres).
This is from near the middle of 3rd year of Comedy Central. In its prime. Watch for lots of nostalgic commercials!
Before the episode are bits and pieces of 2 episodes of the proto-Daily Show, Everything You Need to Know.
This was broadcast as part of the Comedy A To Z Marathon, hosted by Alex Rocco (Roger Meyers Jr!) of Comedy Central's flavor of the month: The Famous Teddy Z
Including: Ads for reruns of SNL back when it was good, those oddly prescient AT&T "You Will" ads (watching a movie on-demand? Don't be silly...), The Kids in the Hall (Stay down!), that unfunny moron Tom Rhodes (wow, that bit aged badly), a depressingly nostalgic Radio Shack commercial, Jason Alexander for AIDS awareness, that photographer Mentos ad they parody in 522 (Mystos!), Penn & Teller with a message for Janet Reno, plus the endless long-distance callings commercials. And many more.
Note: This is missing the intro and first half of the Prologue, had to insert that from a different airing, but thankfully no commercials were lost.
Check back here roughly every week-ish (ha!) for more broadcast versions of MST3K episodes.
FYI, I'm always on the look-out for taped episodes with their commercials intact. Preferably March 1991 and earlier, or Turkey Days ''93, '94 & '95. I'll even pay for the things. Interested? Drop me a line! Find me on Reddit, Tarlcabot18 or Twitter, Tarlcabot25. I prefer a DM on Twitter, Reddit's DM's have been acting up for me.

This movie filmed exclusively in Huntington, West Virginia. Coming off as a vanity project for the person who directed this or maybe even a challenge by somebody (q.v. MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE). The people in the cast (actors?) were locals who volunteered their time and efforts to being in this. Also Mr. Humphreys appearing at a MST3K convention a couple decades after the release of TS.

There is no better representation of the early 90s than the street fight skit.

DEAD KENNEDYS-CIRCLE JERKS-THE CRAMPS-BUZZCOCKS-THE BUTTHOLE SURFERS- Not only music that had a snowballs' chance in hell of getting mainstream recognition , but about the same odds of being a reference point anywhere in the 'reboot' series .

I gotta be honest, I used to really dislike this episode cause I thought the riffing in this one was pretty sparse….. but the more I’ve rewatched it, I actually have since grown to like it a lot more. Anyway, happy to help you out with this season 5 premiere! A shame my copy had the opening cut but can’t change what was already recorded 31 years ago. I can’t tell you how thrilled I was officially seeing the opening for the first time on the volume 10 DVD (when I originally had 10.2 but managed to convince my parents to buy me volume 10 when I was 17 with A LOT of negotiation, which I’ve always been grateful for; even managed to snag the Gila Monster single disc). Great job with the editing on the opening none the less! I really hope we can see all 26 letter promos for the A to Z countdown….. but I sadly don’t ever see that being likely.

If the 80's were the era of unlimited blow, the 90's were the constant and seemingly unending wildly colored vomit from the overdose. And that, my friends, is EXTREEEEME! (continues to barf all over the place)

A Comedy Central commercial for their short-lived B-movie gorefest show Drive-In Reviews, the actual still is from a movie called From Beyond that's just as gross as that still makes it seem.

@@tarlcabot2519Those Drive In promos made me super uncomfortable as a kid when watching some of those 1993 recordings, I can see why it didn’t last long on the network.

"is this love?" why don't we ask Joan Jett her opinion on that. Plus, any references to LIFE CEREAL's Mikey who "hates everything" but takes a shine to LIFE Cereal, despite?

In the short, Joe is going to be a pro football player. Back then, NFL players had to work offseason jobs to make ends meet. Maybe Peggy should stay in school.
