+Zach Custer I also ordered this motherboard and the i5 6600k processor. It comes in the mail today. Finally upgrading from 8 year old computer which has the E8500 core 2 duo processor. I was content with it for all these years because I'm not a pc gamer but I want to get the oculus rift and my current pc specs just doesn't cut it.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I would need lots of advice from you to avoid getting the wrong stuff. My focus would be just on average gaming (offline single player only) while most of the usage would be for data storage and watching vids. Do I really need 1151 socket or just 1150 socket is enough already? All I need is 8gb or 16gb performance ram, 1x GPU with good heatsink. If I opted the fastest i3 and get a better GPU like the cheapest GTX970 or R9 290x or R9 390x, would it be better than going for i5? Is HDMI better or DVI better? I don't do any overclocking btw.

Joanne, love your "msi outfit" :D would also like to give you positive feedback regarding the pop-in/overlay pictures like the blue fish from finding neemo (was named Doris here, no idea what the english name is). the bad thing for us with Z97 platform is that Z170 offers very little right now, given the very high price point. i already have NVMe support, and M2 linked with pci-e lanes. think we have to wait atleast 2 more years for next socket switch and better performance/price. i guess this is the perfect platform for those with older Core2duo and quad (series 6000-9000). keep up the good work :D
