I really liked the tape method you use to keep the screws from going all over the place. I'm gonna try that once I get my GE75 9SF in the next couple of days.

When I wanted to upgrade my first laptop, one of the screws rolled over the table, fell on the floor and somehow disappeared. I did not want this to happen again. This is a simple trick, that not only keeps the screws in place, it also allows you to maintain the right order for the installation. Enjoy your beautiful beast!

I just repasted the thermal paste and replaced the thermal pads on my GE75. I noticed that the old paste wasn't covering the chips evenly anymore and the old thermal pads were fragile and crumbly. It still gets warm but at least it doesn't cook my fingers when I'm using the keyboard. I'm going to undervolt it next. Thanks for the tutorials.

I also noticed that many manufacturers are not very thorough when it comes to applying thermal paste. You'll oftentimes find areas not covered. Repasting is always a good idea to maintain the life of your laptop. I just traveled with mine to Europe - hate the large power adapter, but the Laptop performed well when editing videos in my hotel room.

I did not have the dimensions, so I matched the thickness visually. In the set I purchased were different sizes. Thermal Conductive Silicone Pads amzn.to/3TQyZyV

Lucky me, also have this laptop for almost 3 years :) I noticed, that you decide to use thermal paste for gpu memory chips as well. Are you sure, that's ok ? There is special type of thermal interface something like "liquid pads" (not sure). By consistency they remind of common thermopaste, but have own specific properties to be like pads. Also had an an experience talking to laptop rapair masters, they said, that having basic paste instead of these liquid pads is harmful for chips. At least, I'm wondering about the temperatures of the chips themselves before and after the repaste.

The Temps are almost the same as before, but I noticed an increase in performance. I am using my laptop ever since throwing extreme tasks at it, like processing 5.8K footage from my GH6. It gets to it's limits, sometimes I experience a bit stutter and I have to pause so the gpu can catch up. But that's not because of the repasting, it is really that the built in 2080 Super can do only so much

Unfortunately I did not have any data on how thick they needed to be. So I bought this set amzn.to/3TQyZyV and mated the pads visually to what had been installed before

Hi I just followed this video and repasted myself. All worked well then a bunch of weird lines came up over my second monitor then froze. I turned it off then turned back but the power turns on for a second without display then instantly shuts off. Is my laptop bricked?

I don't know if you experienced problems while removing the cooling system or if you damaged anything. Did you use thermal grizzly or a different thermal paste? Hopefully not liquid metal. Did your thermal paste cover everything? Did you use the thermal pads? If you did everything correct and nothing overheated then I would do a battery test and see if the battery needs to be replaced, it could be a power issue. My Laptop is still running fine, so I know the steps were correct.

I faced the same issue after repasting. MSI GE 63. Mine worked for about 10-15 mins. I tried playing CSGo2 to check the thermal and faced the same issue. Lines on screen and now monitor is not turning up. Did you find any solutiom

I interchanged the RAM sticks couple of times and screen came back on.. Played 5 rounds of CsGo2 and it was awesome. This beast still got it.

So as you may have seen on my channel in April I did build a new PC which I am mainly using kzread.info/dash/bejne/n2Z7o4-pg9WfYZM.html However I still have my MSI GE75 Raider, and I use it from time to time. It still runs flawless and the temps are good. Also a side note: I disabled all Windows updates on this laptop.

@@infanteater91 I think there are 3 different sizes (thicknesses - if this is a word) in the box of the thermal pads. I visually matched it to the ones I removed from the laptop. I think I mostly used the medium thick pads. Let me know how it goes.

Great video, just replaced the thermal paste and pads on my GL75 and did everything the same as you did (though i did remove the battery because i am a clutz). Damn did it need it since my cpu and gpu were crusty, used a entire tube of kryonaut which was probably overkill. After the repaste and cleaning, my cyberpunk 2077 benchmark is 20 fps faster at low settings going from 80 to 100 fps average. Since i wasnt going all out after repaste i could probably get the fps even higher.

Oh, I got quite some criticism for not removing the battery in the video. Anyway, I am glad you got the results you wanted. Congratulations on a successful job, that should give you a peace of mind for the next few years. About the thermal paste: I saw on Gamers Nexus that it actually doesn't matter if you're using too much thermal paste. It'll give you similar results. The only issue is if you're not using enough.

A thank you to you. I have this same laptop and found your vids very helpful over the years. Wondering if you have switched or considered switching to Win 11 on this machine.

I seriously considered that. And I spoke with others, gamers and creators. Many of them were annoyed by some of the Win 11 features and some reported slower PC performance, especially while gaming. I think this OS is designed for the latest Hardware, so I will pass. I blocked windows updates about a year ago and I am very happy. Never change a winning team. If it works flawless, why risking it?

@jasonb8889 I have this laptop as well and I'm watching this video since I really haven't changed thermal or dabbled too much in laptops. I have been working in IT for a bunch of years now, specifically with imaging, updating, configuration management and monitoring windows updates, system performance etc. I've been running Windows 11 for months now on my MSI Raider GE75 (10sgs) and there's no issues at all. Windows 11 did have some issues at launch and during beta, but those are solved. The recommendation for installation has also dropped A LOT. First thing you'll have to do is to left allign the start menu though :D Having it in the middle drove me crazy. Not sure why @ParadiseBizz said otherwise.

I used phone screen repair kit tools from Amazon. they are made of plastic and they would bend before putting too much stress on the components

@@stevearcher4861 As it happens I just did the repairs a couple of days ago and noticed this question here, so I took pics when I was taking out the old fans. Both are PAAD06015SL; one is an N414 and one is an N417, but I'm not sure which is the right and which is the left.

I know this is pretty old video, but ia there any chance you measured the thermal pads size? I have a GL65-LEOPARD-10SFK and it was basically pasted the exact same as youre but with a bit more of that white past around the GPU. Other then that yea exact same. Im looking for the original thermal pads size because ive long gotten rid of them & MSI wont tell the public any of that info.

You didn't take out the battery first. If a screw falls onto or your screwdriver slips and touches any component on the motherboard, you can static shock and fry the motherboard. Then, you'll have to buy a new laptop. Since there's no chips on the motherboard PCB underneath the M.2 SSD, you can fit up to 8 TB M.2 SSD's. This means you can use double-sided M.2 SSD drives. In other laptops with chips or a WiFi card in the area of the M.2 slot, you can't use a 4 TB and 8 TB drive because the NAND flash chips are on both sides of the M.2 SSD.

I received this laptop two weeks ago. Do you happen to know if they add liquid metal thermal interface by default? If so, should I replace it with a regular but expensive thermal paste? I read that liquid metal can kill laptops...

Liquid thermal paste is better, but also more difficult to apply and it is conductive. I was not willing to take this risk. And my laptop still works, so it's all good

Were you able to look at he battery and get the generic model # so replacements can be sourced?

Thanks for looking. That is very strange - you know MSI is NOT making the battery, I wonder if there is "wrapped skin" on the battery to hide the information. The smaller MSI battery has the model and specs right on it.
