MSFS Garmin G1000 Autopilot Tutorial (AH In-Depth G1000 tutorial, part 2)

Ойындар

Welcome back to Alpha Hotel Flight Simulator training!
This video is part 2 in our in-depth series on the Garmin G1000 panel. This video will focus on how to use the Autopilot (Automatic Flight Control System, or AFCS.) Part 1 focused on the basic functions and features of the G1000 ( • MSFS - In depth Garmin... )
Part 3 will focus on using the GPS
The Garmin G1000 is one the most common panels found on the game, so learning to operate this avionics suite will greatly enhance your enjoyment of flight simulator. Learning to use it's autopilot will enable you to use the autopilots in most of the GA aircraft in the game, and give you a good foundational knowledge for using cockpit automation in many different types of aircraft.

This is THE BEST G1000 tutorial I came across EVER. This includes the "transition" course I took as a commercial pilot from steam gages to modern flight deck. I thank you for your superb quality detailed tutorial.

I flew C172S with G1000 NXi over seven hours in the last week and find this video is amazingly accurate and practical. It serves an excellent tutorial and memory aid for the AFCS. All pilots transition from six packs to glass should bookmark this videos. Much appreciated the great work👍, subscribed!

Thanks for the feedback, @dtsh4451. Always good to hear from real life pilots that the sim is matching up with real world equipment. Working title has done an excellent job with this upgrade! Thanks for the kind words, as well. Glad you found the content helpful, and thanks for watching!

Your tutorial videos on the G1000, the 530, and the basic autopilot in the C172 are probably the best that I have seen. Thank you for producing these for You Tube. I am surprised that more folks haven't found them and subscribed to your channel. [Please] keep up the good work!

I wish I saw this earlier instead of trudging and learning on my own over months- great work! As a minor aside, the count down timer does work again when you set a given time as of May 2023- not huge deal, butbif someone rather have countdown than up, you’re all good again😅

@garretthaynes8814, I'm not actually from that area - but I was based near there as a CFI, and we flew in and out of there a lot. I based most of the primary VFR training videos there, as it is a good field for primary VFR flying - nice long north/south runway with good open terrain to the South/East for basic maneuvers, and at a reasonable elevation.

@Alpha-Hotel-FST By the way... a question. Random failures arent possible in msfs2020, right? You can only decide to activate them in a menu?

  • @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation

    @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation

    Жыл бұрын

@@Moonfaster, you can create failures using that menu in MSFS - but they are mostly engine related failures, and the only random element you can set is time to failure. There is a mod for PC users that allows you to create truly random failures of most instruments or systems called Randfailures that I recommend looking into if you'd like to have that sort of feature. It's available here: flightsim.to/file/2272/randfailuresfs2020 I also have a video where I talk about how to use the failure menu, and how to use RandFailures (though it's an earlier version of the mod.) That's available here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/a42ktKipYsWaec4.html

Ooops - that video link only covers the failure menu. Here is the one that covers RandFailures: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oKKerdaIlLLQldo.html

Great video, thanks. I'm having an issue with the altitude capture function and I'm wondering if someone here might offer a suggestion. I set my target altitude at say 3500ft and use either FLC or VS to get to the altitude, but once it gets within about 160 feet of the target the reading in the autopilot status line changes from ALTS armed to something like 3380 and the aircraft levels off at that altitude. Barometric pressure has been set properly, so I can't figure out why it changes the target altitude. Any tips or suggestions would be welcome.

Glad you enjoyed the video Ken, and thanks for watching. I tried to replicate your problem, but was unable to do so. Tried it using both live and custom weather, and both times (with a non-standard altimeter setting) the aircraft captured altitude and leveled off as expected. With, it's almost like the ALT button is being triggered somehow as you start to level. I know the 172 classic autopilot has problems with capturing a selected altitude with a non-standard altimeter setting, but I've not heard about a G1000 aircraft behaving that way. The only thing I can suggest is to try it with custom weather and a standard altimeter setting and see if it still does it. Also check to see if there is anything in your community folder that might be causing some sort of conflict.

@@AlphaHotelFlightSimulation Thanks for your reply and attempt to help with the problem. I did manage to find out what the problem was, and as you suspected it was a conflict with an older version of the GTN750 which I still had installed in my Community folder. Updated it and the issue was resolved. So again, thanks.

Double check the flight plan to make sure there are no duplicate fixes. This can happen sometimes when you load and arrival and then an approach. If there are duplicate fixes, you can delete the ones there are two of.

I am having a strange problem with the G1000 in MSFS. I can use my mouse to click any of the buttons...or rotate any of the knobs. But I get no cursor, or have any ability to PUSH the knobs, which means (among other things) that I can't "select" anything. Has anyone else experienced this?
